Gun Control: Thomas Jefferson's Opinion

That it prevents crime from happening to me is sufficient for me.

I've had too many real world events where being armed may have saved my life or otherwise prevented Really Bad Things from happening.

And the impact is greater than that.... its been shown that in states with Shall Issue concealed carry, crime tends to migrate to crimes that reduce the likelihood of encountering an armed citizen (ie theft when the owner isn't around).

Much of the general criminal violence is thug-on-thug. Factor that out of the equation and if you avoid involvement in gangs, drugs and crime (including peripheral involvement like having a buddy or housemate into those things) you're much safer than stats indicate.

Why factor out thug-on-thug crime? Are these thugs not armed?

Because, to be frank, I don't really care if one thug kills another thug.

One goes to prison and one is dead = 2 thugs removed from society = A Good Thing.

Please cite all this evidence for our edification, if you don't mind.

Since it appears to me that one piece of evidence overlooked is the fact that nearly all of those "mass shootings" that have been occurring lately involved targeting places where firearms were not allowed.

Thanks.

Then I would like the NRA and the GOP to take the lead on these issues and next time they have a big convention, allow full open carry. Show the rest of us sissies how it's done!

The crime rate in Kennesaw Georgia dropped 85% the exact same year they instated the law. It would be profoundly stupid to say otherwise.

Snopes says that it's false because not everyone was forced to own a gun people who couldn't legally own one people who couldn't afford one weren't forced and then they say it's impossible to measure whether or not the law had any effect on the crime rate. Snopes however did not say anything about the drop crime rate

I have a feeling criminals didn't go breaking into houses following the law because they didn't want to get shot and it is uncanny the drastic drop in crime would just miraculously happen.

So yes Snopes may be right there may have been a magical fairy that waved its Wand Over the criminals that had to death wish and were suicidal in Kennesaw Georgia. I suppose such things are possible but I doubt it.

Jefferson also thought that the Am. should be re-addressed every few years.

Using a "spurious quote" attributed to him from that era hardly applies to today.

The crime rate through all of Georgia dropped in the same time frame. You'll need to provide evidence of causation before I believe gun laws caused crimes to drop
.

We have the First Amendment we have laws regulating speech.

Your ability to speak isn't controlled. You just have to suffer the consequences if you misuse your ability to speak.

did it drop everywhere is drastically what about individual cities if the crime rate drops and Kennesaw because Kennesaw is in Georgia it drops in Georgia.

so what do you believe caused the crime rates to drop buy well over half within a year of making a regulation?

If we apply Occam's razor to this the most simplest explanation being the law that everyone had to have a gun would explain it.

Now if you believe some magical fairy wave curler wand over all the criminals and she said be good for you then you can believe that.

So you think Danielpalos is talking about members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or do you think he's just trying to be cute knowing the poster I just think he's trying to be cute.

I don't read him. I just noticed you had some confusion over unorganized militia and rectified that.

If guns deter crime, why do people with guns commit crimes?
Its criminals who commit crime. A criminal committing a crime might or might not use guns. But, just as guns can be used to commit crime, guns can also be used to stop crime. If guns couldn't be used to stop crime police wouldn't carry them.
