What is the solution to mass shootings in the United States?

OldFatGuy:

That's a pity. I was looking forward to tracking it down and having a look. Two volumes of notes accumulated in only three days? Wow, you were a busy man. Well since the source is not available I will look up the good professor and see what I can learn from anything he had/has published. Thanks again.

Cheers.

During my college days, I would walk out a class with a newly filled spiral notebook after two classes. Today, when I attend a lecture, I record it on my iPad and use an application of speech to text for transposition to text, later reading when I desire more intimacy with the words. Val passed in 1994. Since you offer a pretense of education, I thought you would have recognized the name. Those Dutch realists of Post War Paris were not as popular as the Nouveau existentialists, but they were well respected by their literary enemies from Simone's salon.

I do not recognise the name today, nor to the best of my recollection did I ever encounter any of Professor Anschlinger's work. The Franco-Flemish Wars and the wild intrigues of the County of Hainault are a rather niche topic. Nonetheless, having an abiding interest in Medieval history and culture, I am saddened that I never heard of the gentleman or ran across any of his work. A very cursory internet search of his name has revealed nothing to date, but when I have more time I will dig deeper and make an effort to see if I can learn more and at least partially fill this gap.

Cheers.

Nothing gets past you, does it? Anschlinger was a post war art professor at the Sorbonne, infamous for his critique battles with the post war Parisienne art nouveau, especially the painters who he said knew nothing of color. His early post war shows of rescued and preserved illuminated manuscripts at the Louvre saved him from infamy. The use of colors inspired many of the Parisienne artists, and later film makers. I thought I left you enough hints, but how will you continue to attempt condescending without a perch?

Simone's Salon should have been enough, she had affairs with most of them and never Anschlinger. There was only one Simone when post war artists worked, argued and frolicked in bistros for the heat. Both Jerry Lewis and Peter Sellers mined Anshchlinger's persona for caricatures in their movies. Without Anchlinger there would have been no Cahier du Cinema in response to his critiques. Alain Resnais would specify a barb, in each of his reviews, for Anschlinger. The Dutch School was anti Bohemian, anti nihilist, anti existential. Nothing to do with Dutch medieval history.

Whistle while you work, the dwarves enjoyed doing so. Excuse me, I should be PC, the height challenged. BTW Napoleon Bonaparte was not short. He was 5'7"-5'8", normal height for men of his day and merely an inch or so less than Wellington.

I have read the various arguments put forward on these threads with some interest. In my personal opinion, I do not believe that the US will solve it's gun problem for a very long time. Part of coming up with a solution is recognising you have a problem in first place. All too many see the gun-related homicide rates as statistically low and that the imposition of gun control is an assault on a personal freedom that will only impact on the good-guys - so why bother. If the mass shootings in Parkland, Orlando, Vegas etc or indeed one of the highest gun-related homicide rates in the world are not enough to prompt action, then I cannot see what will. It seems that mass murders have become such a common occurrence that the US has become de-sensitised to them, just accepting them as a fact of life, and a price worth paying to express your liberty and freedom. Too many politicians are in-hock to the gun lobby to want to make a difference, so attention is deflected.

Personally, I hope I am wrong, because any unnecessary death is unacceptable, and any measure that saves even just one life is worth taking. And even if it doesn't, at least doing something is better than not doing anything which appears to be default position.

So if doing away with gun free zones can save one life, you're for it?

Absolutely. If, as it is claimed, the US is a unique case, and that the doing away with gun free zones is proven to save lives, then of course. However, until proven, I would remain sceptical of this being effective. What I would also add is, the only way of proving is by doing, so I would also be in favour of trying this, to either prove or disprove the effectiveness. But there seems to be too much talk and very little action - and whilst nothing changes, the problem and these shootings will continue.

Until all guns have been confiscated, school shootings and mass shootings will continue.

The left is working a fifteen dollar an hour minimum wage. And, California's minimum is already scheduled to go up. Let's re-discuss this issue, after the next study.

Since you bought up "traquility", let us consider how the US compares there. The Global Peace Index (GPI) determines how safe a peaceful a country is. In assessing peacefulness, the GPI investigates the extent to which countries are involved in ongoing domestic and international conflicts. It also seeks to evaluate the level of harmony or discord within a nation; ten indicators broadly assess what might be described as a safety and security in society. The assertion is that low crime rates, minimal incidences of terrorist acts and violent demonstrations, harmonious relations with neighboring countries, a stable political scene and a small proportion of the population being internally displaced or refugees can be suggestive of peacefulness.

In this index, Australia currently ranks 12th, the UK 41st and the US is down in a lowly 114th place!

The left has some solutions; the right has nothing but repeal.

You’re right, I meant to post this:

The Human Freedom Index presents the state of human freedom in the world based on a broad measure that encompasses personal, civil, and economic freedom. Human freedom is a social concept that recognizes the dignity of individuals and is defined here as negative liberty or the absence of coercive constraint. Because freedom is inherently valuable and plays a role in human progress, it is worth measuring carefully. The Human Freedom Index is a resource that can help to more objectively observe relationships between freedom and other social and economic phenomena, as well as the ways in which the various dimensions of freedom interact with one another.

The top 10 jurisdictions in order were Switzerland, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Ireland, Australia, Finland, Norway, Denmark, and, tied at 9th place, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Selected countries rank as follows: Canada (11), Sweden (13), Germany (16), the United States (17), Japan (27), South Korea (29), France (33), Italy (35), Chile (37), South Africa (68), Mexico (73), Indonesia (78), Turkey (84), Kenya (89), Malaysia (97), India (102), United Arab Emirates (116), Russia (126), China (130), Nigeria (133), Pakistan (141), Zimbabwe (146), Saudi Arabia (149), Iran (154), Egypt (155), Venezuela (158), and Syria (159).

New high tech weapons such like radiation material, microwave kill people without trace, leaving death look like heart attack, blood cancer, etc.

In 1991, because an acquaintance was arrested for drug smuggling, I was under surveillance by law enforcement agent. They used isotope money as tracer which hurt my health badly. After I complained this I found I was frequently under microwave radiation which cooked my blood, solidified them to form clog, caused severe chest pain. As pressure intensified,I could not bear the torture of EM wave, I went abroad in 1999. There I still was under surveillance of local police. On Mar. 22 2000, attempts of frame me up to a drug case forced me seeking political asylum in Thailand.

What made an U.S. citizen drift abroad and ask for political asylum? The black box practice covered criminal activities of U.S. law enforcement agency. New high tech weapons enable them to murder people without being aware of. To prevent U.S. become a fascist country, an independent organization which can check the conduct of law enforcement agency is necessary.

It was a big case ten years ago.

I was a seller in San Jose Berryessa Flea Market. I sell porcelain figuring. On Sept. 1990, a lady, named Mrs. Chen, came to my stand, saying that she was an importer of porcelain. I bought some merchandise from her because she offered a good price.

On June. 1991, Mrs. Chen was arrested for drug smuggling. The newspaper titled: " Heroin bust called U.S. record".(See San Jose Mercury, 6-21-1991). There was a lot of harassment since then. I was followed, bugged, business turned downward, etc..

1. Psychology intimidation

According to newspaper, the heroin container arrived in on May, 1991. Mrs. Chen was arrested on June 22, 1991 when they opened it. During that one month waiting period, I was stopped by police for three times.

The first time was on Monday, in downtown San Jose. A police car sirened. I stopped, officer came forward, asking me if I knew why he stopped me. I said I did not know. He said that I was speeding. He gave me a ticket after talked to microphone . I didn't argue because I had not notice my speed at that time. But I knew I could not be very fast because it was on 7th Street where the traffic light set for 30 miles. That means if you driving at 30 miles you meet green light all the way, if you past 30, you hit a red light.

Next day was Tuesday, I went to Galt Flea Market early in the morning and arrived there about 6 a.m. The town was still asleep. No people or vehicle in sight. I was stopped by a sirening police car. Same question asked and officer told me I did not stop fully at stop sign. I was very depressing. To my delight, the officer coming back after he talked to microphone, said that he would not give me a ticket.

Within a week, there was a third time. It's inside San Jose Flea Market. Everything repeated. Officer said I was speeding at 15 miles against 5 miles limit. I had worked in Flea Market for 7 years and drove in same way, never had a problem. So did other sellers. The officer smiled at me at last after talked to microphone. Let me go without a ticket. I was so impressed because if they cited me in late two stops, I would have lost my drive license.

Weeks later, Mrs Chen was arrested. Even then I didn't relate two events together. Until about two months late, an article in newspaper touched my mind. It said police sirened signal when a man violated traffic rule. The man did not stop but speeded away in panic. Police searched his car and found drugs. Three times stopped by police within a week happened in time just the heroin container arrived in Mrs. Chen's warehouse. So it was a psychology intimidation test for me. There were many of This kind of harassment late. But compare to isotope money and microwave radiation and fluorescent lamp killing, it's nothing

Hate to break it to you, but this isn't the 19th century anymore. In the modern world, the most effective means of countering threats to the state is by computer and going after the 'soft' target.

Nope; it is about mustering the militia for the infractions of the few, until they "get the message".

"Repeal the 2nd Amd. Ban all firearms. t's generally an utterly moot issue, however, because nobody is going to be repealing the 2nd. Amd. Very little can actually be done now. Some things can be done, but if the subject is "how do we stop this", well, it's probably far too late."

You wouldn't have to repeal the second amendment, you would have to clarify what it means. The Second Amendment states that "well regulated militia"(The armed forces and police) have a right to weapons. Many gun owners often point out that the second amendment also states that people have "the right to bear arms" so the amendment justifies our right to own guns for protection. What they don't understand is that the police and armed forces are our "protection" and therefore the gun rights of the American people that are protected under the Constitution end after the "well regulated militia" (Armed forces and police).
