A high school teacher's thoughts on Florida shooting

I am not in a position to judge her parenting based on 20/20 Hindsight. Its easy to sit back and castigate the mother but I have known people who have raised several wonderful children who have another child end up a complete nutcase or thug. The claims of an arsenal is so incredibly stupid that I cannot take anything said in that lefty bannerrhoid tabloid as having any merit. To me, many of the people who were so quick to whine about a murder victim, were whining because in their hoplophobic mind-ANY mother who allows any child to shoot is a criminal.

Considering where this argument originated, I'd say that judging this mother is not a jump from this poster to "any mother who allows any child to shoot is a criminal". I am blaming this mother because she was told multiple times that her child had issues, and she ignored them. She coddled him while also encouraging him to learn how to shoot weapons (from a very young age according to the picture posted of him) and failing to teach him when it was appropriate to actually shoot other people.

being a gun expert and a shooting trainer I can tell you Lanza didn't need any training to shoot defenseless six year olds at point blank range. This wasn't say the sort of shooting where expertise (like Marine trained Lee Harvey Oswald) increased the casualty numbers. There have been plenty of kids with NO training who killed a bunch in short range encounters with no opposition.

What part of "when not to shoot people" was unclear there? Part of responsible weapons training is teaching when to shoot people, when to pull your weapon, and how to avoid shooting people you don't want to kill. I'm not saying that Lanza didn't want to shoot those kids either. I'm saying that the trainer, which in this case was his mother, should be responsible for observing behaviors in the trainee and acting responsibly on those behaviors. Not ignoring just to teach weapons handling. He had a documented history of mental and behavioral problems, and she still not only continued to leave her weapons open to him, but also bought him weapons of his own. That is an issue.

do you think Lanza was going to be deterred by firearms training saying don't shoot people

how about murdering his mother. Do you know how Lanza got his mother's weapons?
BTW safes protect your weapons when you are not in the vicinity. YOU protect your weapons when you are near them. If someone is willing to kill you, they will get your weapons from you whether they are locked up or not
