Not a lot of specifics in the article or the linked news piece but it does expose one serious downside to open carry.

If you choose to open carry then using a good level 2 or level 3 holster should be a priority. Even a thumb snap can fail or be overcome quickly.

Fayetteville ................the armpit of N.C.

Pretty freaking stupid to open carry there.

Yep, that seems like very poor gun control. The question remains: If you lack a CHL is it more likely that your handgun will be taken off of your person than if left in your parked vehicle instead?

My sister-in-law left her 380 in her car, unlocked in the driveway. It was stolen. She was only concerned that some a*** stole her gun. Not what it may be used for later. Lucky for her, it's not registered.
When I was in high school, I used to drive to school with my 12 GA on the gun rack during dove and quail seasons. I was not alone in this behavior. No questions ever. I could not imagine doing that in this age. And I cannot imagine the stupidity of leaving a gun in your vehicle parked overnight.

This is the downside of the moronic CHL requirement - either open carry or leave the handgun in your vehicle.

I have a serious problem with this kind of rule in AZ. Most state and city government buildings prohibit firearms but the only building I know of that has a secure place to store them is the state offices downtown. The city, for example, has a metal detector you need to walk through but no place secure to store your lawfully carried sidearm. The result is that it has to go in the car in a high crime section of town.

S**t, I didn't know there was any open carry in NC. Hope it stays away from my neighborhood.

I view open carry types as sort of the equivalent of those who have tiny schlongs and somehow think they can compensate by keeping their trou dropped in front, with "tiny" peeking out from under the pubes, for all to see in public. Getaf***inglife.

She left it in the vehicle overnight. I'm sure she could have open or concealed carried in the house, to bed, whatever. There are more than two or three choices. You suggest there is only your choice or stupidity.

I was referring to the Walmart shopper.

In the case of the gun owned by Boyd Landen, the gun owner Trace described, his Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun was used by one gang member to rob a bartender, shoot another bartender in the leg, then shoot at a drug dealer.
when it resurfaced about three years later at a bloody shootout.
Not nit picking, but 3 years is quite awhile for a weapon to retain any sort of forensic ballistics. Maybe at the last shooting (drug dealer) he dropped it and they matched up a serial number? Assuming it wasn't ground off.

Sure has changed hasn't it. I used to walk to high school with a .300 savage slung on my back and all the way across campus to the shop to rework the bolt and stock. No fuss no muss and this was in Salem,Or.

Guess your the winner huh. Their always gotta be someone that brings up the ole compensating for something.

For all we know, the perp (having the traced gun) may have been captured, killed or seriously injured during the "bloody shootout" (gang turf turf battle?) and had that gun on their person. I suspect that forensic ballistic evidence was used to tie that gun to prior crimes or perhaps the perp simply confessed or was ratted out by a fellow gang member seeking a plea deal. A serial number may tie the gun to its prior lawful owner but not to its usage in the other stated crimes.

Right on the "you the winner" part, anyway.

Having a good day for an Oregonian, huh?

Say, I like this video you posted of yourself trying to pump gas for the first time in your life:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3bGp5iSiow

Problem solving is tough for you guys, huh?- especially the really difficult stuff like learning how to pump your own gas.

Hint: if flames start shooting out of your gas tank get the hell away immediately. Way, way away. And do go back near it until the Fire Department has extinguished the hazard.

wrong thread, this thread is about gun control and the issues with open carry vs the far more appropriate concealed carry in civilian public areas

HERE we go again..... Open care fire arm stolen.... the argument now because how stupid open carry is...and the how long the schlong

YET the real issue is.... the idiot that did not take proper precautions to properly secure their firearm.

or the other post about a firearm left over night in an unlocked car......

Or leaving a fire arm open in full display basically someone begging to take me

The issue is again NOT the firearm... BUT the inabilities of humans to make cognitive decisions to limit potential risk.

The other poster stated they left their firearm in their truck years again BUT with cognitive though society changed and said he would never do it NOW.... UM this is taking proper action and making a smart choice....

Its the idiots that DO NOT take these actions that should have their firearms pulled...

As the OP said "not a lot of specifics in the article." I'm just not a fan of forensic ballistic evidence. To easy to change and even after several shots it's a maybe kind of in court.

Well you did come in first.
Having a good day for an Oregonian, huh?
Oregon is starting to suck as bad as Kalistan.
Say, I like this video you posted of yourself trying to pump gas for the first time in your life:
Can't pump your own in Oregon which is stupid. However I did live in WA. years ago where you can. Nope no problems.

So now you know what to do. But I suspect in the video he sloshed some on his car. It caught to readily.
