How do you feel about gun accessories

One of the problems I have with lasers is that they kinda work both ways....we discovered that pretty quickly in Iraq.

We usually restricted ourselves to IR lasers in many cases simply because the locals couldn't see them with the naked eye, and the other side didn't have widespread access to NVG's.

Understood, like tracers, they point both ways.
I am hoping those I point it at are not hardcore terrorists but kids or drug addicts looking to steal something.
I just want them to go away while i am on the phone to the cops with 1911 in-hand.

Very generous!

I will include a .050 Allen wrench so you can adjust the dot to your particular point of aim.
It is adjustable both up and down & left / right.
I do not know if you would call it generous as more me helping out someone with something I am not using and probably never will, and you saving your money for other more important things.
I will put together all the necessary stuff in a little box.
After all, it IS Christmas.

Hey Santa, what brand is it? ;)

I can check it out online. I had to adjust the sighting on the one on my M&P. It's a Crimson Trace.

I will let you know via PM tomorrow.
It is late, but more importantly, the Nazi kitten, Bunny is sleeping on top of the tub right now.
In this house it is a mortal sin to disturb a sleeping kitten.
Once they wake up, all hell breaks loose.
I do know it is not a Crimson Trace but it was very nice and I would play with it unattached and the laser would go well over 300 yards or more.
it is small and compact.
Santa will PM you tomorrow with the details.

As if you'd know. Go flash a light in a dark room. That'll keep you occupied for no good reason. It's always interesting when you attempt to pass off your fiction readings with real life.

Jack Reacher. ROFL

I am not Jack Reacher. He is NOT REAL.

You on the other hand... trying to pass yourself off as an expert marksman that hits nothing but headshots... ninja knife thrower (taught by your dear old grannie LOL) ... staff wielding bad ass and legal expert...

Well your posts come off as clownish...

The wife is kinda afraid of the dark so she has these little LED night lights all over the place.
Plenty of light to make your way to pee late night, but not enough to keep you awake.
and easily enough light to ID an intruder.
All the major rooms have them.
I even have two in my away kit. I kinda got used to them.

I have a couple of those to get to the bathroom at night without putting the lights on so that I dont trip over any dogs on the way.

I'm not knocking your experience but not every gun fight is the same. From what I've seen you guys mostly engage at long distances and may not even know where the enemy is. Meaning that you could accidently sweep an enemy combatant with your laser without you knowing it and they can find your location. In a house however, depending on how you activate the laser and where it is on the gun, you can hide it until you identify your target. Basically, treat it like a mounted flashlight and don't have it on all the time.

Kudos to your wife. Her reasoning differs, but the result is a quality protective environment.

Can I ask why the suppressor? I've never used one but it seems to be large enough to make the unwieldy in close quarters.

What? What? What?

I have very little on my various AR 15s

my national match service rifles have the following

an "ace-wedge to tighten up the lock up between the top and lower receiver
some weight in the stock and National Match Rear Sight
and of course a military sling for shooting kneeling and prone

On my SIG MCX home defense rifle I have an AIMPOINT military red dot sight and I sure fire flashlight-both extremely useful for close quarters shooting in what most likely will be inside and dark. it has flip up back up iron sights in case the red dot fails

On the other rifle-if I have to engage threats outdoors, I have a Eotech Holographic night vision compatible forward mounted sight and a Gen3+ military night vision scope. It also has back up iron sights

On my 3G competition rifles I have both an open and a stock/tactical set ups

the Open has a match trigger (Gieselle) with a JP compensator to cut recoil with a Burris 3G competition 1-4X scope with a Burris Fastfire red dot on top of it for short range targets

the stock/Tactical is pretty much the same but the rules restrict the rifle to one optical sight so it has the Burris with 45 degree Gryphon iron sights for close range targets.

several years ago, a young man I coach was shooting a National Match rifle I had once owned that his parents bought for him to practice military style shooting. It was a plain-Jane Rock River NM target rifle. At the range we were at were two very wealthy sisters that the range master called the "tactical twins" or the Rambettes. they had Colt ARs that had more crap bolted on them than you can imagine. 1300 rifles now with 3000 dollars of add ons. they were shooting prone with rests at 100 yards. the boy I coached was wearing a light jacket (no support) and shooting at the same type of target as the ladies. STANDING.

we go to replace the targets and one of the women walks over to his target-20 rounds in the 3 inch black middle circle. I looked at their targets-not many in the black. They go back to the Range master and ask why. He sort of smirked and said-see that boy-he has a thousand dollar rifle-nothing else. he spends all his money on practice ammo and hiring a good coach. He doesn't need all that crap.

most of the stuff people put on their rifles isn't based on a predicted problem that needs a solution

You could say that about a lotta folks relative to their guns in general, but hey, capitalism and mass consumption. Besides, that negro was coming for my guns.

I guess you just had to post something even if it has absolutely nothing to do with this thread.

What? What? What?

JLee1977 posted that he uses a Glock with a mounted flashlight and a suppressor - I'm assuming as a home defense weapon since carrying it with that big-assed suppressor looks to be difficult. I'm asking what's the purpose of the suppressor - that's all.

Firing a gun inside your home would cause hearing damage.

It allows you to retain your hearing. Fire a round or a few in an enclosed room without one and you can give up hearing your spouse, kids or commands of law enforcement in a critical situation. After I tried one, I never wanted to go back and immediately became a stamp collector.

most of those opposed to taking Suppressors off the idiotic NFA list oppose self defense

Thanks. Never used one and have only fired indoors with ear protection. I was curious about whether the suppressor due to it's size made it more difficult to use the weapon in a closed space.

Most of the pistol cans weigh very little. Minor issue is sight alignment.

that's why models that are set up for cans (extended threaded barrels) usually have sights that are higher than normal because a can normally obstructs normal profile sights

I can understand how hobbiests could get into it. The only accessory I use is a laser sight on my home defense weapon. It makes for easier target acquisition in the dark. And it blinds the target. And it scares the target, hopefully making it less likely I would have to fire.
Not to be disagreeable...but 1, unless you are pointing it out they arent likely to see the laser and 2, its highly unlikely you are going to be able to train a laser on their eyes to blind someone. Lasers really have one purpose...to put your weapon on center mass.

And BTW...if anyone was wondering as to one of the major advantages of a good tactical flashlight...try shooting your weapon in a dark environment and then try to see after the muzzle flash.

Nah...it will cause ringing...but its unlikely to cause damage. Firing it in a car...thats probably another story. That being said...suppressors (sound and flash) are a good idea and the laws should allow personal use without the application of a permit and a ridiculously expensive suppressor.

My ears are why I keep two "bedside" pistols. One is a .45ACP but there's also a .22 if it looks like that would suit the problem.

I never bothered to put raised sights on. I just "look through" the can.
