What should disqualify you from owning a gun?

That (bolded above) would mean that the actual jail/prison sentence for convicted felons be served - we certainly cannot allow that nonsense. ;)

Release means that their debt to society has been fulfilled and they have been rehabilitated.
So they should be able to own a gun.
If not then they never should have been released.

They let them out because of cost. At the end of the day someone has to pay for it. You would be the first to scream when they raise your taxes to do it

I did not say I want to keep them all locked up. This is what I said.
If they are a danger to society they should not have been released in the first place.

Why not?

All people make mistakes. Most people learn from their mistakes. I believe they should be punished then rehabilitated. Then we should welcome them back into society with all their rights. That should be the goal to learn from your mistakes and return as a productive law abiding member of society. If the person is clearly still a danger and cannot be trusted to be a law abiding member of society they should not be released back into society.

What is the cost to society to let people out who are still clearly a danger to society?

Another crime is committed, the cost of another trial, and we put them back where they should already be. Well actually they should be in a mental institution because clearly they have mental issues if they do not learn from their mistakes. Hopefully one day we will evolve enough to realize that.

I think that people who use a gun to commit a crime should have an additional probationary period before they can own a gun again.

The real problem is who takes the responsibility to make the call.

I think everyone who goes to jail or prison should be mentally evaluated. I think those that show no signs of mental illness should be rehabilitated and even taught skills that would help them reenter society. A lot of young criminals need to complete their education and even receive training their parents neglected to teach them for one reason or another.

Unfortunately I think we will find a lot of criminals have serious mental issues and can never reenter society as law abiding productive citizens. At least for now. It is sad our ability to treat mental illness is still in its infancy. I think money spent trying to treat and learning is money well spent.

It is sad that the biggest population of the mentally ill in this country sit in prisons not hospitals

Of course, which is why we let them out early in the first place--to make room for more without spending a trillion dollars on new prisons across the country.

Nonsense, keeping extremely dangerous folks locked up is far more important than subsidizing folks for having out-of-wedlock children.

That is not required and has nothing to do with gun control. Making lists of folks that should be in prison and then hoping that prevents them from getting armed is a waste of money at best.

so you spend all this time squealing for "Just a form" or for registration and you haven't given any thought on how to enforce the laws you wish to use to harass gun owners

I have given thought to how to enforce it. We can do it much like Canada. Are their prisons bursting at the seams? LOL
