many of the anti gun posters and more than a few politicians who try to pretend they are pro second amendment while toeing the anti NRA line claim that all they really want is all firearms sales-private or the phony gun show nonsense-controlled by a background check

Some will claim that "its only a form" but many of these posters and politicians claim its not true that they want additional restrictions other than that background check requirement.

OK-guess what? this killer in vegas bought lots of guns over several years and most if not all, involved a BACKGROUND CHECK-yep, he was checked and guess what, there was NO disqualifying features. He also had a pilots license too.

so your beloved background checks didn't do anything and won't with someone like this

so what are you going to do-

stick with background checks

admit that you now want something else

In any event, it is not a background check liberals want. It is a fiit in the door. That is the liberal MO.

BUT BUT............

IT's JUST A FORM!!!!!

BUT BUT............

IT's JUST A FORM!!!!!

Just a form connecting you to a database entry. What gets added to that database is the kicker: Did you pass your monthly gun safety course? Did you get cleared by your assigned shrink this month? Do you belong to any SPLC disapproved "hate groups"?

Somebody that is going to commit murder can simply lie and not say they wish to commit murder upon purchasing the gun, and of they habe no background a background check will prove nothing.

Also thru can simply purchase a gun from someone.

But, that would be....illegal.

Don't we have laws against that?

Lifelong ban on owning guns if you have committed a violent crime or been diagnosed with a mental ilness.

Complete ban on semi-automatics as they no good for home defence or hunting.

Restrict shop sales to licensed gun stores only.

1) already the case

2) that is so stupid your posts on this subject cannot be taken seriously. EVERY MAJOR POLICE DEPT in the USA issues semi auto handguns for their officers

3) a waste of time and unenforceable

let me guess-you think a semi auto is something that you really don't have a clue about

here are the most popular handguns for cops, judges, sheriffs, bondsman, private security guards and homeowners for self defense

1) GLOCK 9mm

2) Smith and Wesson 9mm

3) SIG 9mm

4) Beretta 9mm and 380

5) Smith and wesson Revolver

6) CZ 9mm

7) Springfield Armory 9mm

8) GLOCK 40 caliber

9) 1911 in 45 caliber (going back over 100 years)

10) Ruger revolver

now I didn't look this up its based on what I recall but 95% of the most popular self defense handguns are semi autos. the supreme court has already ruled you cannot ban them

and the US GOVERNMENT FROM 1950 to the middle of the Clinton regime sold at least A MILLION SEMI AUTO MI CARBINE RIFLES TO AMERICAN CIVILIANS

Does that also includes a lifelong ban on voting, if you dont trust someones judgement with a gun why would you trust it with a vote?

Ban on firearms for violent offenders? yes, but its already illegal for felons to have firearms..so, what...."double ban" them?

Ban all semi automatics? Never happen....and I personally carry a semi automatic not for hunting purposes......unless you consider those roving bands of gang banger deer in North Minneapolis.

Restrict personal sales? Again, never happen.

Here's a fresh and novel idea.......how about actually enforcing the laws we do have instead of playing catch and release with weapons violators?

Lets actually punish the criminals instead of slapping them on the hand and trying to subvert the Second Amendment for law abiding citizens.

Sound like a cool idea? Slam the bad people and leave the free citizens alone?

what do you think of his claim that semi autos have no value for self defense or hunting?

its amazing the amount of completely idiotic statements coming from gun haters that don't even have a shred of viable arguments backing them up

its like these guys read up on guns and then said everything that was exactly opposite of what is fact

I cannot think of any other issue where one side is so completely Wrong about the facts

That remark is right up there with banning a rifle because it has that "thing that slides up". :doh

Whenever someone who has so obviously never even shot a gun starts to talk about "semi-automatics" i just tend to tune them out. I think out of all the fire arms I own only 3 aren't semi-auto and 1 of those is a 1873 Winchester

1-The 2nd Amendment says nothign about home defense or hunting. It specifically addresses the right to keep and bear military grade firearms. 2-Who the hell told you Semi-automatic weapons were no good for home defense? Or hunting?

When it comes to that lifelong ban due to mental illness...I am CERTAIN you would also include having peoples children taken from them for life as well...right? cuz...if you think someone that has had a mental illness should be denied access to firearms, then you must think they are dangerous...and that means in addition to firearms you are advocating that the state seize their children as well...right?

Yes! I like your idea of double ban.

Damn right!

So let it be written, so let it be done.....Two life time bans for felons!

No more of that "reincarnation loophole" BS.....when little "Johnny B Thug" gets snuffed during his next gangland drive by attempt, he is not skating out of his debt to society......you come back, you STILL get no bang stick!

Fifteen posts? Seems like so many more. You have regaled the board with all the proposed ideas/legislation that will not work. Do you have any thoughts as to remedies or do you take the position that these incidents are part and parcel of the type of society/country we live in. I am willing to wager that in the crowd Sunday night were supporters of the second Amendment. After the shock subsides, I would be interested in hearing if being on the receiving end changed anyone’s stance. Do you think there is/are solutions to stop/slow the frequency of mass gunfire casualties in the time we live?

What background check would have stopped the Las Vegas shooter from doing what he did? Fill us in.

The man had a clean history. There are many people like him on this planet.

But, that would be....illegal.

Don't we have laws against that?

Yes, just like we have laws against foreign nationals being in country illegally. Maybe we need sanctuary cities where these BGC laws are waived and past illegal actions are not held against a person if they occurred 5 or 10 years ago.

Excellent...so We the people can now exercise ...oh, whats that word??

The one presidents use when they ignore or intentionally fail to enforce or nations laws?

Oh..yes, "prosecutorial discretion".

I still want background checks on all gun sales. Specifically I want a private citizen to be able (and required) to call into the NICS and run a check on someone. But not because it would have stopped the Vegas shooting, or other mass shootings.
