The measure from Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) is in a broad sportsmen’s bill, the Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act, aimed at broadening public access to federal lands for hunting and fishing.

But the bill also contains some gun provisions, including Duncan’s, which would make it easier to buy silencers for firearms, a process which currently requires registration and a background check under the National Firearms Act.

"Right now we are in a situation where it seems … that sportsmen have to choose between damaging their hearing and being able to hunt, shoot, target practice,” said Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.).

Lawmakers spar over gun silencer bill | TheHill

Nobody cares about the damn hearing of sportsmen. This cuckoo bill wants its easier for civilians to gain access to freakin silencers.

Talk about an insane, dangerous and childish bill. Why on earth should it be easier for civilians to get siliencers?

Why shouldn't it be? Suppressors, in addition to reducing the report of the shot (which is still above 130dB, plus the supersonice crack of the bullet itself), mitigates recoil. Less felt recoil, the more accurate the shot and the greater the chance of a clean kill.

Residents in the UK, France and the Nordic countries can buy suppressors over the counter. What is the issue with citizens of the US buying them?

That like, "We've decided not to allow sharp knives anymore. They're way too often used to cut people."

The only reason the left is so opposed to removal of suppressors from the '30s laws and placing them in the slightly more realistic but still onerous handgun laws is the unspoken rule of never backtracking on a gain. And removal would be a backtrack.

Yes, easier for killers to hunt their prey for a large-scale mass shooting. Brilliant!

Sorry but with the presentation of your post all that I can think of is:

I mean seriously, you just start off the whole thing in a pissed off tone which does not invite any debate what so ever.

Explain how this would work.

Comparing knives with silencers? Wow, what a silly argument. Silencers do not belong in the hands of a civilian.

Notice who the sponsor of the bill is:

Liz Cheney, the daughter of a scumbag that shot his friend on a hunting trip.

So? Accidents happen. Sucks when they do, but then accidents wouldn't be accidents if they were all rainbows and unicorns now would they? A silencer sure as heck isn't going to stop an accident from happening that's for sure. So whatever point you were trying to make is pointless. Though your rage against Dick Cheney is noted. But that too is pointless. And impotent.

Then why do the UK, France and the Nordic countries allow them to own them and to encourage their use?

Mass shooters don't care about silence. They only care about killing and making people scared ****less in order to pay for some imagined slight. Silencers would actually be a detriment to that.

Critical thinking is not just a bonus.....

This is the defintion of hypocrisy.

You spend your time bashing countries like UK and France for their guns laws yet find one law of theirs you agree with and want to copy them?

But I agree with you Rucker. Our gun laws should mirror that of the UK and France.

Thanks Rucker. I agree!

LOL! You have no proof of this statement. It was literally made up.

Really? Then why have all mass shooters, no matter the country that they are in, have yet to use a single silencer?

So you can't actually answer the question. Why do such restrictive countries still allow suppressors to be purchased easily? Is it that whatever danger they represent in your mind really doesn't exist?

Maybe because it is really hard to get a silencer? This bill would undo that.

The only way that would happen is if they walked into a school for the deaf or a deaf peoples convention and there was nobody around who can hear. And even then they might figure something is wrong when they notice people collapsing to the ground and bleeding. You obviously seen one too many Hollywood movies.

It's not that hard to get a suppressor. It just takes patience. Nearly all mass shooters have passed a background check to get a gun, and if you can pass a background check, you can pass the check to own a suppressor. This bill still requires passing a background check to purchase a suppressor.

:lamo Silencers in the UK are sold over the counter and in fact are encouraged to get by police. Hard to get? Not likely.

A background check is not enough. A pysch test is necessary as well.

Re: Making it easier to buy silencers

There's no logical or rational reason for suppressors to be difficult to buy or to be over regulated like they are currently.

There's no psych test required now. I'd love to have one for my Tikka .300WSM. It's got a muzzle brake on it now, and even with hearing protection it's still quite annoying to others on the firing line at the range. I could use a suppressor at the range and just use a thread protector in the field.

You still haven't explained why removing suppressors from NFA restrictions is such a "bad thing".

Is there no end to the number of stupid comments you are going to make about gun issues that demonstrate you have no clue about what you are talking about? there is no case of that happening and there are over half a million such devices in private hands now
