It basically eliminates the need for ear protection at the range or say, hunting.
Also reduces recoil.
For home defense, depending on the gun they may intend to use, the home defense weapon can be used without fear of ear damage for them and anyone nearby. Indoors the damage is likely to be worse from what I understand, being an enclosed area. This has to be very rare though.
From what I recall they take a long time to get (like 6 months?) cost a lot of money due to license, and it's fairly intensive in what they do.
Making that a little easier IMO may be fine, but I'd still want everyone to feel as though they registered and are under scrutiny, if they decide to own them.
I've got a friend with an integrated suppressed 22 and a pistol with a can on it, and it's pretty fun to shoot. Especially the 22. All you hear is a click basically.
You can mail order this I think, straight to your front door, no background check or anything. Makes basically no sound, is also subsonic.
(you can't reload in the field easy, and it has to be cocked, but it's pretty cool nonetheless.)
