Sound Firearms Choices for those on a budget.

Kel tech are similar to Taurus in my experience though Kel Tec is more adventurous with new designs while Taurus often copies proven designs. Lots of bang for the buck but they have higher warranty issues than say Smiths or Walthers. But the warranty is good and as one big big dealer noted to me-he never has had a problem with a Taurus or Kel Tec after it has been back to the warranty center once and returned

They have a bad as* Pull pup 12 gauge at the pawn shop, I believe it holds over 10 rounds, maybe even 16?

Yes yes that's all well and good, got any suggestions on budget tanks though?

Russian t-60, get you where you need to go, very fuel efficient at somewhere around 10 gallons to the mile, oh and it is russian, which means in soviet russia tank drives you!

Had any warranty issues with EAA?

not that I was aware of but I was a pro shooter so I got good stuff. I haven't heard of any recalls for them but I only have two of their pistols-both over 20 years old

Recalls I am aware of

RUGER Mark IV-just got ours back

SIG 320-waiting for the notice to return

Caniks don't have a issue but they will upgrade the triggers--they found if you beat on them with a hammer they might malfunction-same with the SIG

SIG MCX-got the bolt replaced due to the recall-painless

WALTHER PPK (when smith was in business with walther)-warranty upgrade-no problems

Remington 700-long running controversy about their safeties-I own two but never have an issue since I only use them for target and that means I only load the rifle when I am about to shoot

Though not cheap Saiga (?) a Russian company, makes great "assault" rifles!

yeah I have a Red Jacket custom job 12 G shotgun built on the AK platform. One of my friends was an armorer in the Russian Naval Infantry (their marines) since he has dual citizenship and he was a friend of the disgraced owner of Red Jacket. That meant the shop where he worked got a good supply of RJ when they were tops in the field about 10 years ago. SAIGA 12 G with a 20 round drum magazine, HK sights, FN-FAL folding butt stock, door brochure muzzle break

20 rounds of 12 in 4 seconds with #4 buck that's 600 projectiles

A very potent weapon!

you get someone who is a hose master (as we call them in USPSA or steel shooting) that knows how to lean into recoil and the amount of lead you can throw down range with one of those guns is awesome. and I can get .20 splits between shots when I am on my game.

I was thinking the recoil must be hell, lean forward over that center of gravity!

true but its a heavy weapon-nine pounds or so and I run it with tactical buck (2 3/4 dram powder equivalent) and I am a big guy-73.5 inches and 225

*heavy sigh* Sadly, due to legal issues, I must settle for my cap n balls. 12 rounds of 44 aint nothing to sneeze at, though!

I got a Saiga 12. I had a gunsmith cut the barrel but I dont have any other accessories. I was able to get in 2 20 round drum mags through customs here so if anyone wants to get into my house without my permission is going to get a lead salad of 00 buck.

Cool, at the pawn shop I work PT at, they have one of those as well as a few centerfires.

The first pistol I bought on my own was a Taurus 85 (a copy of the S&W Chiefs special, 5 shot .38 spl snub nose)

It was 215 dollars, and tough as a sewing machine. It's a good quality gun to start with

won one in a USPSA match. gave it to a guy I worked with for an every day carry gun after I had a good SW revolver guy tune it up. He still has it ten years later

I started my daughter on a revolver when she was 9....I still have it; an old Ruger .22 revolver 10 shot.

Very easy to handle for a new shooter, and fairly accurate.
