"The first numbers for the National Gun Amnesty are in, and more than 12,500 unregistered firearms have been surrendered since it started last month, Michael Keenan, the minister for justice, announced on Thursday...."

RESPONSE: I realize that Australia is a country that is much smaller than the United States and it is much more secluded and isolated from the massive issues of immigration AND being sandwiched between places like Mexico and Canada.

Nevertheless, we are that far apart in culture that Aussies should be that far removed from their cultural heritage and the Rights of man. Something went terribly wrong in their culture and maybe someone should set them straight.

OMG! Really? What, exactly, do you think 'went wrong' with their culture? How far are they from the "Rights of Man"?

Please be very specific.

Lol.

Different strokes for different folks. If this is what they want, why look down on them?

You can't compare the two. One country was founded by religious refugees, the other by transported criminals. Of course one would develop a more violent culture than the other.

Australians clearly don't feel the need to be as heavily armed as American society. So what?

Lol.

Because they're spineless morons who deserve our scorn?

I'm not sure if you meant it the way I see it, but I'm LOLing.

How so? Nobody's obligated to agree with your opinion on firearms, especially not people in an entirely different country.

Irony!

I don't think it's that ironic. The history of world religions are absolutely drenched in blood.

But criminals are by nature often violent(almost always, I would argue) whereas refugees are fleeing violence

I bet you'd never say that in Perth. Especially if your spine depends on having a gun.

Good on them. Looks like they are making progress in changing their gun culture, it will likely result in dramatically lower murder rates, gun crimes, and possibly even suicides down the line, all depending on how far they go.

Wow. Spineless morons? That's such a nice way to talk about the citizens of Australia who is arguably your most loyal ally and remains the only country to have served alongside the United States in every major conflict since WWII.

The average Australian has never owned a firearm and has no desire to do so. We don't have that gun culture here. The difference bwtween the US and Australia is like night and day when it comes to the Gun Debate. It's ridiculous to even attempt to draw any comparisons.

Ozzies don't like hunting? Are bows and crossbows legal?

Like Chicago?lol
All much more effective it it's nation wide, and coupled with severe penalties for violating it, etc. Picking one city in one state in the entire U.S., where we have no such cultural shift yet, yeah, probably not gonna do much.

How specific do you want me to be?

Every person has both a duty and an obligation... not to mention the Right to be armed for not only self defense, but the defense of loved ones AND, as a last resort, to prevent tyranny in government.

The United States is the only country I know of that has a Declaration of Independence as a foundational document, outlining the principles upon which their Constitution is founded.

One of the major foundational principles that we have in the United States is the belief that some Rights are not given by man, and consequently, not subject to the laws of man. The Rights of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness are beyond the reach of the government.

According to the 2016 Census in Australia, a little over half of the people identified with being Christian. Traditionally, that number is much higher, but the liberalization of western culture is diminishing all facets of our culture. Be that as it may, Christians should have a working knowledge of the Right and responsibility to own weapons, be armed, and ready to defend their lives, the lives of loved ones and to be a bulwark against tyranny in government.

If over half of Australians identify with being Christian and roughly 9 percent abstain from giving an answer, we can safely conclude that, culturally, we are dealing with a society that should understand the principles of things like unalienable Rights - even when their government refuses to acknowledge them.

Isn't it amazing which is which?
Great insight.

Yet is one were to tally up the death caused by convicts vs. that by religious zealots, there is no comparison.

How the **** do you come up with such crap? Owning a gun is about self determination and it is a right, but certainly not a duty nor an obligation and to say that it is Christian to own a gun is just utterly moronic. Such stupidity is what brings more opposition to gun ownership by rational law abiding people.
