Another one of those days when there were two mass shootings across the USA. A doctor goes nuts in NYC during the morning and some hip hoppers go off at night in Little Rock.

The good news? Lots of bad shots as so far only one person is dead...but over 30 wounded.

Doctor fatally shoots 1, wounds 6 at NYC hospital - CNN.com

Little Rock club shooting: 28 people injured, police say - CNN.com

Is there a prediction on when can we will see three? I'd say it's probably in the cards this summer. Of course, introducing even more guns--definitely need more guns--may be the answer....could even get us to four.

Yep, another day when millions upon millions of legal gun owners continued to do nothing wrong, and where thousands of criminal gun users committed crimes...but these rare acts of "mass" gun violence still occur.

I'll just wait for that five-mass shooting day when I know the same gun supporters will parrot that same response.

needles gun violence is a fact of life; why? because an extremely small percentage of gun owners are ****ing idiots & do the wrong thing :(

99.9999% of legal gun owners do the right thing

Once again, more evidence for the case that we need to revise the laws regarding the mentally unstable and gun ownership.

We need smart guns...something like an interlock device we see in cars to keep drunks from driving but a mind reader which stops a gun from firing unless it is in self-defense or target practice. Ah....I was born a hundred years too soon.

logic dictates, the more guns we see out there, the more often we will read about some nut opening up on either a crowd or someone who just looked at them the wrong way.

Oh joy. Calamity is off on one of his 'anti-gun' thread creating tirades again.

...And we would be right to do so.

You cannot hold an entire society accountable for the acts of a few individuals.

The idea that a TON of prevention, in this case stricter and stricter gun control laws which are geared to an inevitable registration and subsequent seizure of a major tool the citizen has to preserve their rights, is worth a pound of cure is disingenuous.

People will go crazy or act out in either crime or terrorism and there is literally nothing to prevent them absent a complete police state society.

Recent events show that using cars and trucks, pipe and other bombs, in short all sorts of ways mass assaults can be carried out by a single person demonstrate this truth.

The fact that the vast and overwhelming majority of people who own guns do not act in such ways IS a valid response to any gun control arguments based on some random individual's acts of gun violence.

The fact that gun control advocates can't see that is the real problem. :coffeepap:

Did you check the Chicago news?

22 people shot, 4 fatally, in city shootings - Chicago Tribune

How many of those were "mass"?

Statistics dictate that the vast majority of mass shootings are committed by mentally people armed with illegal firearms, in gun free areas like schools. I personally put more stock in numerical evidence than subjective human reasoning.

It will still be true that legal gun owners are the single most law-abiding demographic in the nation.

And, it will still be true that gun violence will be the leading cause of death for people between ages 0 and 24. What's your point?

Really. You think gun violence will surpass car crashes AND suicide in killing young people? Are you sure about that?

Haven't you already jumped the gun(yes pun)on the Little Rock shooting? It would seem they don't know who did it other than it may be gang related and no charges brought yet if they do know who.

Yes

Homicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for young
people ages 15 to 24 years old...

Among 10 to 24 year-olds, homicide is the leading
cause of death for African Americans; the second
leading cause of death for Hispanics; and the third
leading cause of death American Indians and Alaska
Natives.

Now add suicide by gun.

reported to be the result of a beef. So, I called it right.

Don't recall this 19-year-old shoots, kills man trying to break into apartment | WFTV
Or this Forsyth County Neighbor Shoots And Kills Suspected Intruder | WFMYNEWS2.com
Or this Homeowner warns burglar she’s armed with gun. After he breaks in, she proves it to him. – TheBlaze
Or this https://www.nraila.org/gun-laws/armed-citizen/
Point is unless it's innocent blood it's not considered newsworthy by MSM, and those DGU's don't even come close to actual numbers.

For instance how many of these shooters in Chicago were legally licensed concealed carriers that just decided to go out shooting people? How many were gang related?Probably most.

Of course they were. I still don't get your point.

We all know that most--by a super vast majority--of law abiding citizens stay law abiding and do not go out and shoot people. Thank god. Otherwise we'd have 120,000 gun homicides per year instead of only 12,000.

Now, even if law abiding CCW guy going rogue is a rare event, it certainly does happen. What probably happens more often though is one-time law abiding gun owner without a CCW gets mad at someone and then breaks the law by reaching for his gun to straighten things out. I do not know how often that happens, but it is not a rare event.

...Huh. My numbers on overall deaths seem to have been from a different year.

Considering we have more guns than we do people, we're still doing a fairly decent job of not butchering each other.

I'd probably have to agree that 30K total gun deaths out of 300M people and the same number of guns is not all that bad. Statistically speaking, it's only 0.1% per year, a fairly decent number considering cigs kill over 10x as many. So, maybe it is a non-issue. It's all relative I guess.
