A good reason to carry

Rick, Guns save lives of law abiding Americans, stop dangerous people from hurting others and frankly I find your attitude towards gun owners to show a high degree of disregard for innocent peoples lives.

If someone decides it's a good idea to attack me or my family they run a really high risk of suffering a potentially lethal dose of lead poisoning. The answer is really simple, don't attack people. No one has the right to harm another for no reason.

Does the law hand out death sentences for assault? If not, neither should you, and if you do, it is called murder.

(And of course no one has the right to harm another for no reason, that's why it's against the law...and punishable with JAIL TIME...not lethal injection, hanging, the electric chair, or a firing squad).

I simply don't believe that TD is unaware of the massive amount of racial tension that the Rightwing media invested in its coverage of the "Knockout Game". They rode coverage of a few isolated events in order to whip their anti-Obama base up into a lather in 2012-13.

Mention of the "Knockout Game" was an alt-Right dog whistle... largely manufactured in the minds of those looking to exploit racism.
Concealed carry is wholly irrelevant to the subject because it is completely 100% ineffective against surprise attacks.

I'm just not buying TD's claims of ignorance.

Now, it's called Justifiable homicide". You might be perfectly willing to be a victim, to be beaten, possible maimed or killed. That's your choice, and obviously you are quite content with that choice. I am not willing to be potentially maimed, killed or sit by as such is inflicted upon a family member. I have ZERO desire to harm anyone, but I also with not hesitate to defend myself or my loved ones if someone else chooses poorly.

The problem here, in your little scenario is that you assume the assault will not result in serious or lethal injury. You have no idea what the outcome could be when an attack starts. Are they just gonna hit you a few times and take something from you? Is this a rape? How badly will your injuries be?

You see, you presume that I or others must allow the crime to play out, why?

Why should I risk serious bodily injury or death for your twisted support for the right of criminals to carry out their work in a safe environment?

Please, I'd love to hear your justification for why I must allow myself to take a beating instead of defending myself.

The knockout game, to which the OP refers, consists of one punch, so simmer down on the hysteria...lol... If you think someone deserves to die because of one punch, well...try it out and enjoy your stay in prison....where the knockout game will likely have a very different end.

One punch is all it takes. A simple web search shows that sometimes that one punch has lifelong repercussions; brain damage, loss of vision, maiming, disfigurement.

Also, it's MORE likely you'll be hit more than once, that first punch is just the start of a mugging. Also, I live in Texas, if you attack me and I kill you... I'm not going to go to jail. That's how civilized society works, we protect the rights of law abiding citizens over criminals.

You still haven't explained why I have to allow someone to attack me.

You don't have to allow someone to attack you...but you don't have to kill them either. Basically, because that's messed up. By all means, if conceal and carry is permitted, then pull out your gun to stop the attack, chances are in a fists vs. gun fight, the attacker will back off without shots fired, and if not, then do what you gotta do. But taking a surprise punch, as in the OP, and then shooting the attacker after the attack has concluded is no longer self defense (if that's what happened, I watched the video, which didn't show the attack, from what I can tell, and I couldn't put the volume up). If that's not the case in Texas, well...my condolences, but you certainly have no claim to being considered civilized if revenge killing is permitted by law, which the use of a gun after the conclusion of the attack would definitely be.

I don't stand a chance fighting hand to hand against a younger, bigger, stronger man, especially if there are more than one. Since the FBI tracks over 500 deaths a year from hands, fists and feet, I'll consider any physical attack to be potentially lethal and respond accordingly.
