Middle school student suspended for 'liking' photo of gun on Instagram

Nope: this is what did it -

So they searched him the next morning. In this day and age, with all that's been going on at schools, what was the school supposed to do? get on instagram and post: "yeah, nice gun!"...?

Relax

First off how did the school know so quickly, do they monitor all of the students social media? and secondly it was an AIRSOFT gun as in not a real gun.

So what is the school supposed to do? shut the **** up and mind their own business

nope, the people who suspended the boy need to be fired. and an effort to accomplish that is apparently underway.

Lets hope like heck the parents have enough good sense to string these oppressive idiots up. They do not deserve to be anywhere near children if they do not know that they are harming children's development by strangling fantasy play. I know I would not like one of these lunatics anywhere near my children.

What is to relax about when teachers behave like ignorant idiots?

The psychosis runs much deeper than that.

The entire education system has turned major excessive PC and along with that militant anti-gun, as is demonstrated when a 5 year old boy nibbles his pop-tar into a gun shape is suspended. Like WTF?

Well if gun control can make enough noise that they can change the system what are we waiting for? It sure as heck is not going to right itself.

Somebody must have seen the kid's post and told the school. Kids monitor each others stuff everyday.

Used to be to get a 10 day suspension you had to beat the hell out of somebody. Wow things have changed.

How did the school even know he "liked" this picture?

Some muck racking idiot reported it.

Well it seems like in this case the tattler should be the one with the suspension

So should the school just have ignored on a bet that the kid wouldn't show up with a gun?

how is a kid liking an air soft gun any indication he is going to show up with a real gun. If a kid likes a picture of a tiger do you expect him to show up with a big cat the next day

The article has a statement from the school:

“Yesterday evening school officials were made aware to an alleged threat of a student bringing a gun to school. We act on any potential threat to student safety swiftly and with the utmost importance. This morning, the alleged threat was addressed and we can assure you that all students at Edgewood Middle School are safe and school will continue as normal. Thank you”

My guess is either a parent or another kid saw the "like" online a warned the school about a potential threat. The school then acted accordingly. Also, the article says the school dropped the suspension. Looks like everything worked out fine to me.

The school dropped the charge because the local news picked up the story. Parental complaints had nothing to do with it: only national embarrassment.

A toy airsoft gun? Yes

there was not a bet about bringing the gun to school by the kid who merely liked the picture. The bannerrhoid movement is a combination of dishonesty, ignorance, reactionary hatred and pants-voiding fear

They should have done due diligence and ensured the gun indeed was an airsoft. They could have called the parents and let them know about their concerns. Any number of rational ways they could have approached this rather than suspend anyone, especially the kid who simply liked the picture. For what it is worth, I have in the past had a pretty agitated discussion with a moron who thought his AK pistol would not draw as much attention if he painted the flash suppressor orange. If that kid had brought that airsoft to school and I were a resource officer, there is good potential that kid would have been shot under certain circumstances.

Welcome to liberal / excessive PC logic!

If you look just a little bit more, you'll see that logic like this is being used all the time by the left end of the political spectrum.

Why even bother? What if he liked a real gun? Big deal.

I was referring to those that say there was some kind of bet to bring it to school. If there was no bet, I absolutely agree with you.

Because it was a toy gun and all the kid did was like the post and nothing more. None of that constitutes suspicion of a real threat and the tatting student needs to learn a lesson about when to speak up and when to mind thier own business, especially since it caused so much trouble. Actions have consequences, that is an important lesson to teach kids IMO.
