Is there a buy American culture among firearms enthusiasts in the US? For example would you be more likely to buy an American designed and manufactured gun than say a Fabrique Nationale or H&K designed firearm, manufactured in the US or not? What kind of reputation do European deigned firearms have among firearms enthusiasts?

You'll get a zillion different answers from different gun owners as to which they prefer.

But in general what would you say the culture and reputation is in general?

To be honest, I pay almost no attention to where something is made. Doesn't matter if it is a gun, a car, or a vacuum cleaner. I just want the best quality product I can get for my money. Sometimes that happens to be American and sometimes it doesn't.

There is no consensus of the type you're looking for.

Most of the time, if people have a problem with a manufacturer, it's because they don't like the designs, not because of where it's made, and that's highly personal. Some people love Glocks. Some people hate not having an exposed hammer. Have never heard a negative word about H&K.

I don't think so. Like most of my purchases, I pay little attention to country of manufacture of any firearms purchase.

The weapons I have at my home at present consist of Rugers and a Henry, so I guess I buy American. So too the ammo. All US made.

What is likely the most popular handgun manufacturer, Glock, was initially manufactured solely in Austria. CZ is a another popular firearms manufacturer, especially for competition handguns. Once a gun owner decides on what specific firearm suits them best I don't think that country of origin plays much into future purchases.

I prefer american made, but I am not too picky on where it is made if the firearm functions how I want it to. When I go to gunshops, the bulk of guns are made in america, brazil, canada, and austria(glock).

So here is the real question, do people in canadia land prefer to buy canadian for their guns? I know handguns are extremely difficult to obtain up there but rifles and shotguns are very easy to obtain, and they got to have a preference of rifle origin for when they go hunting or deal with beaver and moose rebellions.

Most "foreign" manufacturers have plants and separate business divisions here in the US. At least the European manufacturers do. Where we see a lot of imports from is South America, Taurus in Brazil and Bersa in Argentina.

To a degree there is, but most manufacturers, at least of pistols and AR rifles (the most popular gun in the US) are made in the US even if the parent company is overseas. Manufacturing firearms domestically is much easier then importing. Personally I consider a gun manufactured in the US by US workers to be American, some opinions may differ

As far as rep, Sig and H&K have a very good reputation, and both have US plants because they had to in order to get US Government contracts. Glock is mixed. I personally own a Smith and Wesson, a Colt and a Taurus, all three are American designs, the Taurus was made in Brazil (back in the 70s Brazil semi nationalized the arms industry and a former smith and Wesson plant with S&W workers began making copies of the S&W they used to make

Just browsing the internet it looks like mainly American made rifles and shotguns. What manufacturers do exist here are mainly defense contractors. For example Colt Canada essentially exists to manufacture our own version of the M16.

I don't think there is. It's just that by far the majority of quality, affordable guns are, in fact, American.

I own American and German firearms, and bought them for specific purposes. I tend to favor Germans for sidearms and Americans for hunting.

Yeah I googled it and outside defense contracts, henry and savage make guns in canada, and both are american. There are apparently quite a few small gun makers in canada who custom smith them, So your options are buy an american made rifle, buy an american rifle made in canada, or drive long distances to find a gunsmith to custom make you a rifle.

Savage Arms manufacturers in Canada. Mainly bolt action rifles

competition shotguns-over and under-other than the Kolar-which is scarce and hard to get, the best made O/U are these

Perazzi-Especially for Trap and Olympic Trap Italy
Beretta-DT-11 in the same league as the Peruzzi-Vince Hancock won back to back Olympic Gold skeet medals with a DT-10 (earlier model) Italy
Krieghoff-German-best international style Skeet gun -favored by four gun shooters since it has mechanical triggers
Blaser-Germany

For the Money-the Japanese Made Browning over and under shotguns are top choices. The last world class available American Made over and Under was the Remington 3200 (Dryke won the 84 skeet Gold medal with a 3200)

Pistols-The USA has the best made 1911 style pistols. Of the plastic framed jobs, the Smith and Wesson is as good as the H&K and the Glocks

Semi auto modern sporting rifles-USA leads -some of that has to do with import restrictions but the AR-15 platform and stuff from companies like Daniels Defense, and LMT are better than the Euro stuff

revolvers-Smith and Wesson.

Bolt action rifles-good stuff from Japan, England (Accuracy International) Finland but the USA is the leading maker except for 22 caliber target rigs where the German Anschutz and Walther and Feinwerkbau dominate
