BREAKING: Civilian Marksmanship Program May Receive 86,000 M1 Garand Rifles from the Philippines - The Firearm BlogThe Firearm Blog

If you don't have a Garand, this is going to be your best chance to get one at a decent price. Basically, to buy one from the CMP you have to

1) be member of a CMP affiliated program- Many gun clubs are affiliated and some shooting programs (I believe GSSF is for example).

2) have proof of shooting activity. Years ago you had to have a Highpower rifle classification card but now a CCW license suffices.

3) fill out and have notarized the application

I have bought 5-6 Garands from the DCM and its successor the CMP and a half dozen M-1 Carbines as well.

Great News! I had one of the grands come though the shop I worked at that had a magazine conversion several years ago. It would be nice to have more of these offered again.

I'm waiting for news on the 1911s.

Heard anything?

not at all. I have the one my grandfather carried in France circa 1917-1918 and I have a dozen more modern 1911s including some pretty high end (Wilson, Les Baer, Kimber, RRA) so I probably won't get a CMP pistol if they become available. However, I do hope others get a chance to get one of these very important pieces of US military history

It's going very slowly on the 1911s.

I thought they'd be selling them by now. Obama probably blocked it, but Trump will allow it.

It's just a matter of getting through a lot of red tape and getting the guns prepared for sale.

Maybe six months.

I hope.
