How did the Democrat Party, which long dominated politics throughout the gun-happy south, become so fervently opposed to the Second Amendment?

Until the 20th Century; Democrat Gun Control was motivated entirely by racism which obviously excluded white democrats.

The Democrats kept blacks disarmed and defenseless to make them easier targets for folks such as their friends at the KKK.

Laws Designed To Disarm Slaves, Freedmen, And African-Americans
Sample Slave Codes, Black Codes, Economic-Based Gun Bans Used To Prevent The Arming Of African Americans, 1640-1995
Civil Rights Act of 1866 enacted. CRA of 1866 did away with badges of slavery embodied in the “Black Codes,” including those provisions which “prohibit any Negro or mulatto from having fire-arms.” [CONG. GLOBE, 39th Congress, 1st Session, pt. 1, 474 (29 Jan. 1866)] Senator William Saulsbury (D-Del) added “In my State for many years … there has existed a law … which declares that free Negroes shall not have the possession of firearms or ammunition. This bill proposes to take away from the States this police power …”and thus voted against the bill.

That is until the 1st Progressive President introduced his ideology as the primary driver of Gun Control.

And absolutely yes, there is indeed good reason for people to carry a loaded gun on the street today.

And that reason is, so good people can protect themselves and loved ones from bad people with guns.

You obviously do not realize that the NRA is in no way an 'entity unto itself'.

It's a conglomerate of individuals united in a common cause to preserve a Constitutional Right.

So whenever you refer to the NRA, please try to remember that it is literally millions of people.

Since the GOP is where all the RW racists in the D party ran to after the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the Right tries to pretend that they are still in the Party of Lincoln. :lol:

They did not run there after 1964, they remained widely in the democratic party for a while and only began a slow migration. At the federal level for president it shifted overnight, but at state and local level, democrats still ran the show, some states like georgia and west virginia who are heavily conservative still have those conservative democrats in power at various levels.

In order to protect the 2nd Amendment the NRA-ILA support candidates who will do so and oppose those who would undermine it. Why would they give any money to members of a party whose platform includes the desire to restrict the right to keep and bear arms? Is this somehow a surprise to you?

The Democrat party held all three major parts of the government in the mid sixties-the White House and both the senate and the house. Nixon attacked the Democrats as being soft on street criminals-a fair argument since black violent crime-fueled by the GREAT SOCIETY scam and the increasing popularity of narcotics-was rampant and many liberals didn't want to do anything to upset a major constituency by calling for a "Get tough on street crime" program that many blacks (often correctly) saw as a code term for cracking down on inner city blacks

So Democrats adopted gun control--it allowed them to pander to low-information and low IQ voters who wanted something TO BE DONE about crime. It also allowed them to say they were doing something without pissing off their black supporters and those who saw crack downs on street criminals as "racist"

The NRA-the largest gun group in the country was forced to become the spearhead against this silly tactic by the Democrats. as such, NRA lobbying cost Democrats many offices. Now, most of the anti gun crap from the DEMOCRATS is based on the 50 year old desire to pander to the slow witted and is paired with a desire to punish the NRA and pro gun voters for hurting Democrat election efforts

why is it that

1) every federal intrusion on the constitutional rights of citizens to keep and bear arms

a) sponsored by Democrats

b) was passed mainly by democrats

c) was signed into law in every case save one (and that was a poison pill amendment to a pro gun bill) by Democrat presidents

d) that EVERY Democrat Justice on the Supreme court has voted against Gun rights

that the states with the worst record concerning the rights of gun owners are RUN BY DEMOCRATS

that the Bannerrhoid organizations-the Brady Bunch, the VPC, etc are supporters of the DEMOCRAT party

GEE CALAMITY maybe the NRA bashes that Party because that Party is the Bannerrhoid Party

The wife said something about a third Reich flag being waved at today's Trump rally. So, yeah. Obviously a good chunk of them are no longer pretending.
 
If the Democrats fail to recognize that gun control is a losing cause for them.......they are done as a political party.

if you think that the way to stop premeditated mass murders-like the San Bernardino shootings, the rampage in the Orlando gay night club or the massacre of school kids in Connecticut-is to make it illegal or much harder for honest people to own certain types of guns, you are low information or low IQ.
Anyone who actually understands criminals and the concept of progressive deterrence, understands that if the consequences of committing numerous cases of capital murder does not matter to the criminal, then the punishment he may face for violating a gun law is not going to do a damn thing

1) the person waiving the flag actually was a Trump supporter

2) that real Trump supporters approved and praised the waiving of a Third Reich flag?

given the claims made by those with TURDS (Trump Unacceptance and Resistance disorders) that Trump is a "fascist" it seems to me its far more likely that someone who thinks as you do about Trump would be displaying Nazi Imagery compared to a Trump supporter

this is a thread about the Democrats pissing on our rights concerning firearms ownership. Not your attempt to whine about Trump and trying to justify attacks on the second amendment because you think Second Amendment supporters might support or at least go along with Trump's travel orders

or are you merely being dishonest and pretending to support idiotic gun control schemes to get even with gun owners whom YOU THINK support stuff that causes you to be upset?
