Automatic is automatic load and fire.

Semi-automatic is automatic load and manual fire.

Got it?

I though it was pew vs ratatatatatat

Semi-automatic is automatic load and manual fire.

Actually, you are wrong.

The difference is not between "fire" and "manual fire". With both systems manual fire is required...but with automatic, there is less manual effort required. And, to be really nitpicky about it, neither automatic nor semi-automatic have "automatic load". With both, the first round must be manually chambered.

To be really nitpicky, many machine guns begin the cycle of fire from the open bolt position so they do automatically load even the first round.

But it's not automatic. Someone has to pull that trigger to close the bolt.

Do you have to put your automatic transmission in gear before you can drive?

The difference is...

Resistance to any and every proposed gun control measure is automatic among gun nuts...

Resistance among Republicans to these same proposals is only semi-automatic.:)

While somewhat inflammatory this post also exhibits a bit of wit. I give it a semi-like.

Again...to be nitpicky...your car doesn't automatically put itself in D and move down the road. Someone has to make a manual effort to engage the transmission.

Thank you for trying to derail the thread with inane details.

Got it?

semi automatic is like a squirt gun

full automatic is like a can of hair spray

nope, the automatic response is left-wingers calling for new restrictions on HONEST people every time a CRIMINAL kills white children

Maybe in your alt reality, that's true.

I was taught it was pew versus pew, pew, pew, pew, pew.

I am going to switch to yours because it is easier to say without spitting all over the place.

shrug...I didn't bring up the car transmission.

No, you tried to tell me I'm wrong based on unimportant sub-details. For intents and purposes, I'm correct. For people that are not versed in these weapons, what I said, is all they need to know.

Right now the difference is about $15 or $20 thousand.

Is that before or after all the ammo?

I think this is where many of the pro-2a mess up when trying to talk about the actual mechanics and why there is a difference between the 2. If we were to use your example to explain the difference it may be possible to help the people wanting to ban guns understand. Of course that is assuming they don't accuse us of using "alternative facts"

Heh. Before. Definitely. That's the entry level price for an M-16, for example. At least, that's the range I saw a couple of years ago for a couple of old M-16's. No representation of their condition was offered, so one could reasonably expect to invest some more money to restore them to proper condition.

Theres an M16 offered locally for $25k, but surplus ammo isn't too expensive. There's also a .308 conversion M1919 available, and that would be expensive to feed.
