An attempted armed robbery turned deadly Thursday when the would-be victim pulled a gun and fired, killing one of the robbers and injuring another, police said.

Billy Dean Dickerson, 19, of St. Louis died Thursday morning when he and Perry A. Richardson, 23, tried to rob a 70-year-old man who was dropping off a friend at her house in the 200 block of Abbott Street in Venice, police said. The man is a Vietnam War veteran from St. Louis.

I love a happy ending

Sometimes, you just might have to pay the price for risky behavior.

I would like to offer my thanks to this veteran for his service to country — both in Vietnam and in St. Louis.

Billy Dean Dickerson could have learned how to respect his fellow man, and also how to respect firearms but it is too late for him to do that now; good riddance.

Hats off to the 70 year old American military veteran that served his nation, and that killed Billy Dean Dickerson.

You have served your nation well sir.

It's easy to Like both of these posts even though one person died and one person was injured. I hope the shooter was properly licensed in his home state and that Florida is reciprocal. A 70-year-old man is rarely a match for two young teens. He could have just as easily been killed had he not been able to defend himself.

I bet five bucks the parents of the dead kid will try to sue the man.

He obviously was not brave enough to go hand to hand. What a coward. He should have taken one for the team and hung on long enough to be a good witness rather than defend himself with a firearm. There are those here that will happily show a couple videos to "prove" the 70 year old did not need a gun. Only guts....

I grew-up with 'Nam vets, and they can be pretty cool guys.

But I sure wouldn't **** with the ones I know!

It was in Florida. Stand your ground and immunity applies... unless he was not properly licensed. My opinion only, btw.

When a young criminal is legally shot dead. His family always try to sue the shooter and say that their boy "was a good kid."

Yep.

Those guys survived NVA trying to kill them in the jungles & rice paddies of Southeast Asia, and then had to deal with a-holes in the anti-war movement calling them "baby killers" in the bars & streets of America. So yeah, they're usually pretty tough and can be a bit crazy when pushed too, so I don't mess with the ones I know.

70y.o. would make your friend one of the somewhat earlier 'Nam vets, who got in just before the anti-war movement gained large popularity, but if he only did one tour he woulda' been stateside as the movement was really taking off. A lot of guys from that era enlisted too, rather than having been drafted against their will like the later guys. Consequently, they often are highly patriotic & pro military.

illegal possession of a firearm is a separate issue from lawful use of force.

even if your possession of a weapon is illegal your use of it may still be lawful.
