Rousey Seen Getting a Concealed Permit

Well, I don't know about a good role model for women and self defense: dude, she got her ass whipped bad - twice! If anything, she's going to show women it's okay to go into stupid places as long as you have a gun. Cowardice is your last resport.

She got her "ass whipped" because she was not at the same level as her opponent. Plus she had a concussion at one point. Fighters lose. It happens. Especially in MMA where there are so many different styles coming in.

And can you show me where she is saying go into stupid places? Name one CCW trainer who says that? And carrying a weapon isn't cowardly. It is a right and part of living in a free society. Some people feel a moral obligation to do so. Others feel a duty to their loved ones. Or their friends and neighbors. I think you don't fully understand why people carry. In rousey's case...she did it on behest of her boyfriend and she is a famous woman. Good for her. Better than teaching women that even trained fighters should be passive victims of the "rape culture."

Ronda Rousey was seen starting the process of getting a concealed carry Permit. The website won't let me quote it, but how does this make you feel?

I think it is a good thing for women especially. Training and taking self defense seriously. A new message that is much different than puke and urinate on yourself. So....

I have a friend that travels all over the country to teach martial arts. She is the deadliest person that I personally know, well, except for one other person but that's another story. She has her CCW and carries all the time in all 50 states (retired cop). I think I will follow her example. I think it's awesome that there are women out there that are willing to be good examples. Bruce Lee carried a .357.

Jet says that women just need to beat up men with guns, and few are better equipped that Ms. Rousey. She must just want a new toy.

Jet said it and you repeated it. Give me your man card.

As a guy here on this board often says, a woman (or man) doesnt need a gun to defend themselves or anyone else ( Given his refusal to clarify his position, it is to be assumed under any circumstance.) They only need courage and be right...

And growl really really loud. If that doesn't work they can piss or vomit on themselves.

I honestly prefer this:

As Rodney Carrington says, "nobody wants to fight the naked guy."

That's nuts. Funnier than ****.

I'm a rousey fan. She did. What I was saying before and after the fight is that she is NOT a striker. She can't stand up and trade blows. Doing that is stupid. If your game is judo...you get in, get under, take the person off their feet and go for a submission. A rough landing hurts as bad as a kick to the body or even a shot to the head.

It doesn't help that her boxing coach sucked.

She simply failed to evolve as the sport evolved. We saw it with the early MMA. Wrestlers and Jui jitsu guys dominated the sport because its hard to kick a guy when you are on the ground and getting the snot beat out of you or your arm is being bent at a wrong angle.

She dominated the field early on because of her aggression and strength.. which got her in close and then she finished it with judo. She did a lot of great things for the sport and women in the sport. Now women are headliners. The sport has simply left her. Her striking skills are terrible. And I don't think she can overcome those years of judo and judo stance to be able to move as a striker.

Heck.. Just the other night the headline female fight was a striker and a wrestling/jiu jitsu artist.. and the "striker".. ended up winning the fight with an arm bar.

I saw that. Wasn't just an arm bar. Was an upside down armbar and it was gorgeous. But yes. I think she didn't evolve. And I really do think she can if she gets the right staff. But she is going up against an animal. So who knows?

Pepper spray would have REALLY made that stuff funny

Yeah, but technically that would have been assault. I can remember the first time I heard the phrase "fighting words". Hell, we thought that was normal conversation.

nothing quite deters the one eyed trouser snake like a quick squirt of pepper spray!

Yes..it showed that she had unseen talent to know to do that as her opponent tried to defend.

It will be interesting to see if Rowsey can evolve. After holms knocked her out the first time, you would think they would have worked on her striking.. particularly her foot work and head movement more... so something is wrong because not that we got to see much of the last fight.. it did not appear to me that she her foot work had changed.

Yea. It didn't even look like she was going to be aggressive in that fight. She just got knocked on her heels and couldn't recover. I will say that there are rumors (from Pena no less) that her trainers didn't let anyone hit her in the face during sparring sessions. Seems like they missed that she is in a contact sport.

At any rate? I am glad she is getting a CCW. She is still well qualified as a martial artist win or no win, and she can show that other women can too. Better than those rape resistant pants.

Why is this a topic?

Why is this a topic?

Because you have a major figure in women's combat sports going to get a firearm. A far cry from the standard anti gun argument that women can't or should not defend themselves. Or that "passive resistance" is better. This is actually a big deal within the gun control debate. It has a message. A good one.

It just devolved because some people think Rousey's loss is a reason to be down on her for her abilities ;)
