Shiny, always wanted a RIA 1911. They're the ones who bought the original Colt machines right?
I don't know.
Over the years RIA has really improved the quality of their products. They originally were serviceable copies of Colt Military pistols that were about the cheapest you could find but over the last 15 years, they have greatly improved their quality and have consulted several top of the line customs smiths like the Guy who built my two limited guns (Frederick Craig) 25 years ago. Right now the RIA pistols are very good and great buys for the money
I had a very knowledgeable buddy of mine along to check fit and finish. BTW, he pretty much says the same about RIA as you.
one of the ways makers saved money was to cast frames rather than machine them. Cast frames had a reputation of being weaker than machined or forged frames but Ruger showed that good casting techniques render perfectly durable frames. CZ frames are cast and I think RIA are as well but modern methods have eliminated the problems.
I wanted a quality piece, but wasn't ready to spend the money for Kimber or S&W or even a match grade. I just want to shoot. I'm not at the level to take advance of the accuracy of those brands either. This one should serve well.
Of non compensated 1911s I have
2 Rock River Arms National Match
2 Les Baer Premiers
Kimber's Top "custom shop" Pistol Super Match II and the Gold Combat II
Smith and Wesson's top Peformance Center 1911
and my son has two Trophy Match pistols which were their top of the line short of the custom shop
and I have two hand built on Para frames. full house limited guns built by master smith Fred Craig
and I have a basic Springfield armory and Kimber
They all shoot pretty much the same. The 45 ACP is a very accurate load and if you use a semi wadcutter 200 grain H&G 68 bullet in the 800 FPS range, just about everything on the market today will keep that load in a 3" circle at 25 yards which is plenty good for everything short of national match bullseye events. The more expensive guns are tighter and have nicer triggers but you can put a national match bushing in the pistol and that will improve accuracy and as long as you have a beavertail safety (rather than the military ones which are hard on the hand)you aren't going to see the difference between what you have and that 3000 dollar RRA target rig
Sweet. Nice price too. Let us know how it shoots.... been thinking about getting one of those.
Did I mention I bought a box of 500 rnds of rotgut ammo. Tends to **** up match chambers. My AR-15 has a .223 Wylde match chamber in a 20" barrel, and had to have it "loosened" a bit. Cheaper ammo was jamming up. I also had to change the buffer and spring for better ejection (H2 with flat wire spring).
Now you need a threaded barrel and suppressor...
I never shoot factory out of 45s since lead is much easier on the barrel and more accurate
wylde chamber on the AR was to maximize accuracy using both 223 and 556 ammo. I have that on a couple 3G match rifles though my main one-a stag 3G does not nor does the HM defense the factory built to my specs

.....so I can go all 007. :lamo
That and to save your hearing...

That is a nice looking 1911, and a good price. I remember considering an RIA (among others) a couple of years ago but ended up buying an STI Spartan instead.
Is that 4" or 5"?
I wanted the option to shoot both types of ammo.
