Just bought a new pistol[W:66]

Re: Just bought a new pistol

That is a nice looking 1911, and a good price. I remember considering an RIA (among others) a couple of years ago but ended up buying an STI Spartan instead.

Is that 4" or 5"?

The Spartan is a very good gun. STI saves money by using cast frames-Unless you plan on shooting over 100,000 full tilt factory rounds, it won't matter. I got my kid the one right above that-a Trojan in 40. same deal. its a full house competition rig for "single stack" or "USPSA limited 10

Re: Just bought a new pistol

I'm real interested in knowing how it shoots. I'm on fence between a RIA and Ruger 1911. I had a Rock years ago and it was an ok gun but but quality is supposed to have improved.

Re: Just bought a new pistol

you can shoot 223 in a Mil-spec (556) barrel and it works pretty well. Hot 556 out of a 223 can cause some issues.

Actually I haven't shot 5.56 out of it yet, but I have a box of ammo.

Hopefully I'll get a chance soon.

I mainly buy 223 but sometimes get mil spec 193 ball and its 556. when I shot service rifle matches I always used 556 out of My colt HBAR and later a RRA National Match rifle. 62 grain bullets which were SS109. in some we were using mil spec ammo rather than the heavier bullets often used in some matches

Another good 1911 is the Taurus PT 1911. Best equipped you can find for the money. Bought each of my sons one. Very pleased.

I've always had bad luck with Tarus.

Way back when, I would have said the same thing. Check out the reviews of the PT1911.
I have a 709 I use as a pocket pistol and I am very happy with it.

same here but once they come back from being repaired, they usually work well. There are two philosophies on warranties

1) try to only let good stuff go out the door-that costs more up front because you reject or have to fix stuff that fails a rigorous pre-sale inspection. SIG and CZ tend to be in this group.

2) let some crap get out the door and you come out ahead if 20% of the guns are bad but only 10% are returned for repair vs. (#1) scrapping the 20% that are bad

Taurus is in the second category.

No I just have bad luck with Tarus. I had a 709 and 740 stolen from me. Those are only 2 guns ever stolen of mine. I had a 9mm (247 I think was model) I lost over the side of my boat. Again only gun I've lost. Dropped another one once but was in shallow water so recovered that one.

The quality is not bad for their price. My wife loves her.380.

I just have bad luck with them.

Re: Just bought a new pistol

Over the years RIA has really improved the quality of their products. They originally were serviceable copies of Colt Military pistols that were about the cheapest you could find but over the last 15 years, they have greatly improved their quality and have consulted several top of the line customs smiths like the Guy who built my two limited guns (Frederick Craig) 25 years ago. Right now the RIA pistols are very good and great buys for the money

I fully concur. I own two. A basic military model in nickle and the tricked out American Classic II, in stainless. Sweetest 1911 I've ever shot.

Re: Just bought a new pistol

I never shoot factory out of 45s since lead is much easier on the barrel and more accurate

wylde chamber on the AR was to maximize accuracy using both 223 and 556 ammo. I have that on a couple 3G match rifles though my main one-a stag 3G does not nor does the HM defense the factory built to my specs

BBL

Yep, been rolling my on since '79...cast all my own bullets and won a few trophies. The Colt Gold Cup is my Comp gun. But this ACII is real nice. Got it two years ago for $560 including the background check fee.

Both of mine work jes fine...

Yep, got two of those about 3 years back in stainless with gold accent on all levers....a one off run as far as I know. Bought one for my son and one for me. $504 each including BGC fee. They work very well and give my Gold Cup and ACII a run for the money.

$579.99

Personally, I'm thinking of one of these:

I'm told by reliable people here that they are legal to buy and I think one would do the job and look good sittin on my front lawn. Not much for the color though: metallic purple would be nice.

It would be great to have a neighbor with one of those.

But, what if the neighbor didn't wanna - share....

I don't care, it adds safety to the neighborhood.

Re: Just bought a new pistol

Now, sell it for scrap. It's a weapon of death and not meant for the next world. Killing people sucks!

Getting ammo would be the tough part. That, and you live in California.

It's a crew served weapon - he's gonna need some help.

Re: Just bought a new pistol

Now that is one awesome looking handgun. Never shot one of those but I hear good things. Looks too purdy to shoot. But I wish I could I could wrap my hands around her, gently touching the trigger....... Damn. Got a boner!

I just treated myself to an H&K Vp9 for my birthday. Just waiting for the phone call from Gander telling me my background's back so I can go pick her up.

Re: Just bought a new pistol

I wanted a quality piece, but wasn't ready to spend the money for Kimber or S&W or even a match grade. I just want to shoot. I'm not at the level to take advance of the accuracy of those brands either. This one should serve well.

You can trick it out and improve the accuracy.

No problem; there's a church group next door.

It has a recoil system, so it's illegal to own, anyway.

Hey, I can pack my own reloads, or make shells out of real hard coffee cans.
