Untraceable "Ghost Guns" On the rise in Florida

I'm sharing this article I saw a couple days back because I found a quote from the manager to be quite sobering.

For those who aren't familiar with the ghost guns, it sounds like a real loophole.

And here's what the manager thinks about buyers using ghost guns for illegitimate reasons.

Obviously this was in reference to the "Joe the Plumber" moniker which was thrown around back in the 2008 election cycle. At first, I found it funny. The name is funny, and I have to say, the level of stupidity by making such a broad, unfounded claim is amusing. But why aren't terrorists builders? Don't they build bombs? If they build bombs, then they should certainly be able to build firearms. I don't suppose mechanical engineering is any harder than chemical engineering or physics engineering.

Let's take a look at 99% of the guns used for murder in my state...are they "ghosts?"

I am not sure what you mean. If they are untraceable weapons, then they might be called "ghosts." On the other hand, are 99% of the murders in your state acts of terrorism?

if a criminal shoots someone with a firearm he obtained on the blackmarket, the ATF might find out who originally bought the gun but that does not help them solve the crime of who did the shooting. same with the "ghost gun"

so tell me why you are so afraid of such things? Ow many criminals do you think are packing firearms that are ones that they are documented to own?

Perfectly legal to manufacture a firearm for personal use. This is nothing new at all. Tens of thousands of those 80℅ receivers have been sold and have been around for at least 10 years. Have any of these ever been found to have been used in the commission of an illegal act? What is concerning/sobering?
Personally, I find things like unarmed drivers driving untracked/unmonitored propane, natural gas or gasoline tankers sobering considering the potential.

even better are new kits that allow you to cast a plastic lower receiver with steel inserts

but lets look at this RATIONALLY

its still a felony for a criminal to even possess a gun. since almost no criminals have legally purchased the firearms they use in crime, serial numbers don't mean a whole lot of anything in preventing crime. These unfinished lowers or casting kits have sprung up because of gun banners constantly talk about banning stuff.

And I will clue you in on some reality. Really well made fully automatic firearms were made in this country almost 100 years ago on machinery that is now obsolete and not nearly as good as stuff that many hobbyists have in their workshops. CNC machines can do stuff in an hour that took a week years ago. My father, a young naval officer in WWII-who had a background in machine tools-used the machine shop on the ship he was on to fashion copies of a British Sten gun that someone had obtained. The Sten gun, and the US answer to it-the M3 Grease Gun -were stamped and welded pieces of steel pipe essentially that were easily made quickly. In Pakistan, Gunsmiths with nothing more than anvils, and a few tools, make working copies of military rifles--some are awful but some are extremely well made and work as good as the weapons they ape.

Afghanistan does that as well. 60 Minutes had an entire segment on homemade weapons. I've shot .45 Grease Guns, they are a real hoot and good in close quarters.

First off "joe terrorist" is not a reference to "joe the plumber" but to "joe shmoe"

And the point the quote was making is that a terrorist isn't looking to get away with a crime so they don't have any use for a ghost gun as they can just buy or steal a regular gun for thier mission

And a pressure cooker bomb, is easy to make and does a lot more damage than a "ghost gun".

Unless you are pretty good at gunsmithing it's a waste to try and make your own. I have seen quite a few and most turn out pretty poorly as far as accuracy and reliability.

With the 80% lowers, all you need is a drill press and some files to finish it off.....maybe a dremel tool ......all the ones I've shot, work great.

I like untraceable, the government does not need to know everything I'm doing or everything I own.

You do need more than just a few tools and anyone can access the instructions online....and make one. They work slick and you can put your own mark on it. ;)

Those bombs they build, while they seem to have clevar remote detonators, chemically, they are pathetic unless they are usung an "IED" or some other engineered explosive..

No, their technical bomb building skills seem quite weak..

These 80% lowers.. Yeah they can get them without a background check, but they could just buy a used AR and not have a background check too.. So you might as well forget about it..

The typical mindless anti-gun leftist. That ranks right up there with this chick.

What a real moron....and they get paid well for this tomfoolery!

Fifteen years she spent submitting legislation to ban them without knowing the most basic fact about them. This is why we don't consider any laws proposed by "Democrats" as common sense.

That has always been my take on the subject!

"Ghost Guns" sound like a anti-2nd amendment loon/gun grabber term meant to demonize do it yourself or hobbyist firearm kits. Because I am sure the people who buy these kits don't call them "Ghost Guns".

I call them "fine weapons of mass enjoyment".

So she thinks magazines come with the bullets in them and once gone they are useless, Good Grief people that know squat about a topic should not be trying to get involved in legislation that pertains to that topic.

I saw she also thinks that if the mags are lower capacity, let's go with 10 round single stack, will give others the capability to rush the shooter, sounds good until you realize these people are supposed to also be the ones they were just shooting at, fear is a common trait for most, and she has never seen how fast some people can change out mags.

Thankfully her ban, at least at a National level, will never take place.

[/QUOTE]

Thankfully. No wonder they passed obamacare....they didn't have a clue.

I am actually surprised the gun lobby hasn't cracked down on these. Bad for business I would imagine. Not like it really matters, as it was already pointed out. 3d printed plastic guns are catching on. Kinda makes registries and background checks seem pointless. I'd link to a blue print database, but Id rather not be on a watchlist. They are getting pretty sophisticated. And untraceable in just about every way. Maybe somebody knows different, Im not claiming to be an expert on the subject. But our laws are pretty unenforceable as is, and it's not likely we will be able to ever enforce them without breaching the 4Th amendment more than we already are, which is already to much in my opinion. Why can't we all just settle on gun safety education and mental health, buy our own guns and hope for the best?

Ok, now we disagree. I had several "grease guns" in my TOE and they were crap beyond 25 yards and even within that they were wildly inaccurate. Not to mention that other than the dust cover "safety" they had no safety and dropping one with one in the chamber could result in a serious and fatal accident. They looked kinda cool but we only issued them to APC drivers because they hardly ever carried them and no one else really wanted to carry them. So they were really not a quality firearm and I sure would not want one as my defensive firearm.
They do have one advantage, any machinist worth his salt can build one in his shop, something that would dive banners crazy except that now with right machine one can build all the AR15 lowers they want, that darn cat just will not stay in the bag.

so tell me why you are so afraid of such things?

Tell me, why must you continue to make the wild, speculative, pointed and slighting inquiries about fear? Does it make you feel relevant?

why are you worried about something that doesn't amount to any significant danger? BTW have you been able to prove your "publicity" solution to gun violence? or your claims that the second amendment is only a collective right?

Why do you think I'm worried about something you think I fear? I would only be worried if I were a true Scotsman.

I already showed that the Second Amendment is primarily a collective right and extends special privilege to individuals. Do you have any questions about the general meaning, or do you want to link this to the discussion of ghost guns?

wrong-you merely made that assertion and failed to back it up with any credible authority. You keep repeating that lie and others have called you on it. You don't have a single supporting fact for your silly claim. no supreme court cases, no comments by the founders and no legal scholars supporting you. it appears something you made up to support your idiotic assertion that I have captured in my signature line

In other words, I have failed to commit the logical fallacy of appealing to authority. Ergo, I have succeeded in nimbly avoiding your obvious logical pitfall.

no you have made something up and failed to support it-you have opined that a right is only collective in nature and you have absolutely no support for that claim. So you basically are engaging in fantasy and fraud. You do so because you are a gun restrictionist and you are trying to change the second amendment so your silly anti gun proposals are not "unconstitutional" or there is the other explanation-you're just a contrarian who is here to argue for the sake of argument.

either way, it is obvious you really haven't given any serious thought or made any serious effort to research the topic

So what you're basically asking me about my logical argument is: who's my boss, anyway?

Your futile tactic to demean my argument has utterly failed. Serious thought does not require kissing ass.

you made up an argument that has no basis in any form of support. you know it, I know it so why keep pushing the facade. You don't have any argument for your position. you have not provided any proof that your silly interpretation is correct

I logically deduced an argument according to the law of logic. You know it, which is why you keep pushing my buttons. You just want to get a rise out of me. You have failed, miserably.

The bill Degette was touting is still sitting on the ****house shelf. I have met her. My wife was the person that Kevin Lundberg was talking about was my wife. Degette is an idiot. She always has been, always will be. She fits right in with Pelosi and the crazy bunch.

We don't disagree really. I said they were good in close quarters. To me, that means within a room or within 10 yards or so...they were great for clearing a Hooch.

The majority of liberal politicians are idiots. It's who they are...it's a mental defect.

Because liberal politicians go ape**** over anything they can't control. They are control freaks. They want to control our entire lives, be it guns, healthcare, climate, babies, contraceptives, vehicles...everything.

So what you're basically asking me about my logical argument is: who's my boss, anyway?

You have never had a logical argument.

You mean those "ghost guns" that empty a 30 round magazine in one half....yes....one half of a second, like that California state senator said?

Those "ghost guns"?
