Normal law-abiding gun owner shoots child.

This conscientious father even took him to the "safest gun range in the world" but it wasn't safe enough.

"A weekend celebrating America turned tragic for one family when a father shot his son at the High Noon Gun Range in Sarasota, Florida.William Brumby was using the last shooting lane with a solid wall on his right-hand side when a spent shell ricocheted off of the wall and bounced into the back of his shirt. According to a WFLA report, that was when the man used his right hand, which was holding his loaded weapon, to remove the shell. He recklessly pointed his firearm behind him and it accidently fired.
The shot hit his 14-year-old-son, Stephen. He was rushed to Sarasota Memorial Hospital but died as a result of the injury. ... "

Florida father accidentally shoots and kills his 14-year-old son at ‘world’s safest’ gun range

Very sad indeed. I've had hundreds of spent shells go down my shirt and I either put the gun on a table, or car, or in most cases .....holster it.
Now Manc, after clicking on the link, I see you have doctored the title to mislead.....why is that?

I dont shoot no more, or even own a gun, but we can see were this is headed

Why not?

Then why spread such unneeded fear and sensationalize the shooting of a child? Him being a "law-abiding gun-owner" is irrelevant, and completely detracts from the fact that an ignorant, ****ty old man is failing at his duty of being a father, and the crisis we are experiencing in this country that is resulting in a generational rift and a legion of ignorant, arrogant, regressive old farts and failed adults ****ting all over subsequent generations and robbing them of a voice, a future, and a life.

That's right. We should keep all these deaths a big secret so as not hinder the sales of more and more guns. It's Darwin's law that killed that boy anyway right? While we are at it we should get Congress to pass bills forbidding the Govt. from researching the statistics of gun killings so we wont' scare anyone off. Oh wait they already did that. Just think if we had a protocol of warning gun purchasers of the danger of having weapons around the mentally unstable that Sandy Hook mother might have not purchased that AR-15 and some gun maker would have lost 100's of dollars. That would be unthinkable.

Your snarky, condescending attitude, is so noted....and unnecessary. None of what you just said, is near relevant too the OP.

The entire story is biased from the get go. First, the False Title by Manc......then there is no such place as the safest range, guns don't accidentally shoot on their own ....and a law abiding gun owner has no bearing on this.

far more likely to happen in indoor ranges where empties bounce off the walls, ceiling etc Which is why I always wear a hat and have a close fitting t shirt etc. Years ago, I was teaching a female student. She asked me what not to wear to the range after she started shooting because she had sandals on and I said that was not something to wear to ranges. Well I didn't answer her immediately. A couple booths down was a woman-maybe late 20s wearing "daisy duke" shorts over a scoop necked leotard. She had a fairly large chest meaning there was a pretty good sized gap between her chest and the leotard and sure enough a hot empty shell fell right into the gap and ended up god knows where as she frantically tried reaching up under her shorts to get it. It was so hot that there was a thin line where the nylon on her leotard had melted. I know it hurt but it was a funny scene. So I looked at my student and said-THAT IS WHAT NOT TO WEAR shooting!

I give the woman credit though because she set her gun on the bench before trying to remove the hot shell

Accidents happen, and they never should be used to pass draconian laws. Autos kill many times more than firearms, should we ban automobiles? After all firearm ownership is guaranteed in the constitution, Automobiles are not. The difference? EVERYONE WANTS A CAR, ONLY ABOUT 60% OF THE PEOPLE WANT A FIREARM, so the 40% raves about guns and ignore the most dangerous.

Spot On!

Where did I advocate anything? I'm not the rabid one in this thread. That would be the rabid reactionaries misrepresenting the second amendment.

Yup. As per usual the gun huggers are circling the wagons again

Be honest....you knew the same old crowd was gonna react while you sit in your chair giggling.

I fault is all the fathers, a totally unacceptable unsafe act on his part, sounds like he was not very experienced or he learned some really bad habits. The gun range still is safe, they did nothing wrong. Sad story, but almost all accidents are the result of someone doing something wrong.

Has any of you folks considered a "law abiding citizen" is before the fact.........

Or possibly a trigger pull away from being charged with a crime..........

So much for the BS argument of the NRA

Well then, by all means, continue to spread fear, hysteria, and sensationalize child deaths and mass shootings as if they are some glorious celebration (none of which you deny doing).

Because if we don't have people in a state of constant fear and hysteria, how will the government adequately control them?

The real mentally unstable in this equation is you, as is evidence by every single post of mine you've taken out of context throughout the entirety of your hate-boner campaign of them.

Stay angry.

You're more tolerable that way.

that's as stupid as whining that a driver who swerves to avoid a pothole, a deer, a child running into the street or a ball a child kicked into the street, and then crosses the center line causing a fatal accident should be used to ban driving. Your pathetic and dishonest attempts to blame the NRA for this is as pathetic as blaming the AAA for numerous wrecks that are caused each year when a driver suddenly reacts to a hazard and causes a fatal wreck.

You also are lying by pretending that this "law abiding" citizen suddenly became a premeditated felon. and Yes, chances are you are celebrating this death since you can use it to advance your hateful propaganda

This post is meaningless w/o PHOTOS!

It's not a BS argument at all.

A driver who is texting while driving and runs over a bunch of kids in a crosswalk....is also a law abiding citizen. A glance away from committing a crime.

this was before phones in cameras

this image off of google sort of gives you the idea except the shooter's top was long sleeved

Well stated and absolutely correct on all fronts! :applaud

Not banning but at least we can give people the knowledge they need to make an informed decision. Gun have little real use but killing and they are far to "romanticized" in the U.S. They are not suitable for children either. At least adults make their own decisions and if it kills them we don't feel bad. That boy had little choice but to go to the gun range and get shot.

Many parents take their kids to the gun range and gun competitions all the time.
Your appeal fallacy is just that.

Guns have their uses beside killing. But I expect people with little knowledge about them
Wouldn't know that

No gun range is safe. What a stupid comment

its a tough choice for them-admit to being ignorant or dishonest. You'd think with the olympics coming up and the fact that other than swimming and track (which have more events than any other of the summer sports) the USA shooting team has won the USA more medals than any other teams, would edify those who state something as stupid that the only real use for guns is killing

No...you have no point! Just childish nonsense. How old are you again?

liberal anti-gun bozos, don't have a cognitive brain in their heads. Mush for brains is all we ever see.

Since when is it 'normal' to shoot and kill a child?

The person who wrote that should fill us in.

Personally I see that as an abnormal act.

They are very suitable for children. All my children had learned to shoot by 7 years old. I teach young kids about firearms all the time now...the right way, the safe way, and not the skeeered of their shadow, liberal way.
I finally realized a definite need for my services as an educator of the young.

So many people like you, have such a misguided and biased view of firearms, that it will ruin it for the youth of America. So I, and many others now, are volunteering our services, Free of Charge, to the youth of America. It is our calling to counter the stupidity, the lies and the fear, of the Left!

I don't know of anyone who said it was normal, and it's not, except for abortion doctors who murder on a regular basis. And those are intentional!
This was a tragic, avoidable accident, just like so many other accidents where a child is killed daily, across the USA.
