Rambo wannabes like this need to be given jail time

This one ended nicely. Great, I get it.

But we don't live in an action movie, folks. More often than not some wannabe Clint Eastwood is going to maim or kill innocent people.

Do you guys really want to glorify citizen justice? You're going to have every Bubba and Jim Bob bringing their guns everywhere we go, and it won't just be robbers that will be safe, it'll be everyone.

Self defense is not justice. It is self defense. Of course no one wants to enforce the law by citizens going around shooting lawbreakers. Neither do we want people to sit passively by and let a violent felon kill someone.

The only way disarming citizens will make us safer is if the criminals are disarmed as well. Anyone have a practical way to do that? Anyone???

You are telling lies again. Private citizens are less likely to miss the bad guy and far less likely to shoot innocents than cops. I wish EVERY TIME some armed criminal attacks people, an armed citizen would kill the attacker. Crime rates would drop way down since most violent crime is caused by a very small number of criminals. Killing those criminals would ratchet the number of violent crimes way down.

Though you didn't say this I have to follow up. Shooting an armed attacker while he is engaged in felonious violent behavior is not "vigilante" justice. Its self defense of one's self and/or of others.

violent criminals are always going to get weapons. gun control only makes their lives safer

You are ****ing unbelievable. You've been sitting in here taking an issue with someone shooting a criminal who was threatening to kill someone. Why? What's the big problem with that?

This citizen did a good thing shooting that crook, and all you can do is take issue with it for some stupid ****ing reason.

believe it or not, some far leftists don't believe criminals should be blamed or punished for their predatory actions. they believe that an unjust society-often an unjust "racist" society, causes some young men to become criminals without fault. Thus if you shoot some thug trying to slash you with a knife or rape your daughter, you are punishing the poor scum bag for actions he could not help but which he was forced to engage in by society.

Yeah, why the **** would anyone have a problem with this? It makes no sense to me how the OP takes issue with this.
I am seeing more of this though in news stories. The families of shot perpetrators saying things like "if the witness had just minded his own business my boy wouldn't have been shot". I have seen about five of those this year, fact is, if the criminal had not endangered another the sorry piece of garbage wouldn't be dead, blaming a person exercising the right of self/third party defense is twisted.

So should we praise people who are getting mugged at gunpoint who kick the gun from the mugger's arm? Just because it worked one time doesn't mean it's a good idea to do in general.

99 times out of a hundred this pretend action hero would hit the hostage or hit some bystander or get himself shot.

And you guys want to glorify this incident and make it seem like this makes it a good idea for every Bubba and Jim to have a gun hanging on his hip. No thanks, count me out.

The only way to reduce gun violence is to stop glorifying guns as being totally awesome and bad-***.

It's downright frightening that people think having Wild West shootouts on the streets is the way to curb gun violence.

From the article:
He took the cash and a large amount of cigarettes but was not finished. According to police, the armed suspect grabbed a female store clerk, threatened to kill her and forced her to accompany him as he tried to make his getaway.

As the robber exited the store with his female hostage, he was met by an armed customer who had already determined the store was being robbed, according to the news release.

The customer, who has yet to be identified, reportedly fired several shots at the robber, who was fatally struck in the chest.

Once he got her in a car there is no telling what hell he would have put her through. I think the shooter had no choice. He probably saved her life.

this is just plain stupid: the asshole who got terminated with extreme prejudice was using a machete. This was not about gun violence, it was about edged weapon violence. The asshole brought a knife to a gun fight. he lost, everyone with a brain is happy while the criminal apology lobby is crapping itself. BFD

Okay...here are a few more snowflake liberal characterizations...

1. You call self-defense, "citizen justice". (I'm thinking you never had someone try to beat your ass. If you have, would you characterize you fighting back as "citizen justice"? Or would you call it "self-preservation"?)

2. Engaging in stereotyping by implying anyone who carries a firearm as "Bubba" and "Jim Bob".

btw, I'm thinking that, like me, you live in a very safe, sheltered environment. The difference, though, is that I have not always lived in this safety. Believe me...for a significant portion of our population, life IS like an action movie in that danger abounds. For sure, at that convenience store danger existed. But, unlike your hyperbole, no innocent people were maimed or killed. Only the guy who deserved to die. Oh...and you say, "More often than not...". I wonder if you can provide some data to support that? Or are you just saying that because it sounds good?

If that clerk had been my daughter I would be going every week for the rest of my life to mow that shooter's yard.

If we really want to cut down on the violent gun culture we really need to send a message to people like this trying to take the law into their own hands and stop glorifying them. Who knows who this person could have hit trying to be like an action hero movie doing this.

It's frightening to think conceal carry permit holders are always wondering around with the possibility of having an OK-Corral style shootout. I bet the perpetrator was a person of color, too. This gun nut probably wouldn't be so eager to shoot a white guy.

What crime did he commit?

Well, if you were in danger of being killed or kidnapped I would still save you. I would however tell you to go **** yourself if you decided to complain about it after the fact.

I'm pretty much done commenting in this thread, but I'll leave you with a challenge:

"99 times out of a hundred". Okay. Here, we have 1 in which neither the hostage, a bystander nor the shooter were hit.

Give us 99 cases...let's say, in a reasonable time period near this case...in which the shooter shot anybody other than the bad guy.

I don't think you can meet my challenge.

Well it's a very stupid hobby. I don't see how constantly trolling a political forum is a fun hobby.

I could see it now, cruisin around, hittin up the bar scene, trying to score some action..."so what do you do for fun?"
"Oh you know, nuthin much...I spend a lot of time making troll threads on a political debate site."

Bet he just rakes in the action.

Yeah, I'm sure he pulls all the bitches in town. And why wouldn't he? He's clearly a very intelligent individual.

I am getting beyond sick of segmenting violence into hyphen violence catagories. Simple fact is that whether someone is stabbed, gutted, bludgeoned, beat to death by bare hands, shot, hanged, etc. it is all violence. The differentiation only needs to be whether the violence was justified or not.

I am against violence, the only exceptions being that of competitive violence such as martial arts, sports, sparring, boxing, etc. where it is a controlled and sporting atmosphere. Most of the people I see who are against "gun violence" I would guess have never truly experienced the real thing, I have and it is nothing like the movies, it is quick, it is bloody, and there is pain involved. I got cut when a coworker pulled a knife on me, he withdrew it when I threatened to break his neck, it was a flesh wound but had I not asserted myself then where the escalation would lead is anyone's guess.

Differentiated violence statistics are simply stated to further an agenda, but it cheapens the overall fact that violence is an abhorrent thing.

Oh and by the way: put the race card back in the ****ing deck, bitch.
I have shared part of the three times I have had to declare or show my firearm. Once was a third party defense and that was the show, I had to convince a stalker and his friend that their antics one night were going to be met with lethal force if necessary, they repeatedly harassed her and the main offender was showing signs of actively watching them for an opportunity, my .40 Mossad approved sidearm convinced them that it was a good idea to leave. The second and third were "declares", in that I merely had to declare to the perps that I was armed and ready to pull should the need arise. The part I've never shared here is that in two of the three incidences the people I had to back off where white, I have seen the "well if the person was white would you......" bull**** and frankly that is a disgusting tactic. Violence doesn't have a color, it has a characteristic, and I don't like it either way.

Mmm hmm, mmm hmm...now you're getting to the root of the issue, us simpletons are just overtaken with a soul-crushing jealousy knowing that our pitiful excuses for intellect don't even exist in the same dimension. I have some serious soul-searching to do...

Oh yeah, that was him too.

You should have seen the crap he was coming up with years ago. One time he argued that there should be rooms in school where students can have sex. That had to be the dumbest thread in the history of the forum hands down.

Oh my God. I seriously hope he's just a troll, and not actually that stupid.
