Gun Control Lies, Misconceptions and Disingenuousness

However much I may like him as an actor, Danny Glover apparently can't tie his own shoes without sticking one in his mouth.
I like Glover as an actor, it's ironic though that he would state such a thing as a black actor. The first U.S. gun control came from southern Democrats debarring free blacks from owning firearms to prevent retaliation post-war for slavery, the second amendment was always a last resort against tyranny, and the first gun control was always to reinforce it against former slaves.

He probably understands that after the Southern Strategy, it was the Republicans who became the racist party.

You keep thinking that. The Democrats have a long standing tradition of racism, hell, they had more segregationists in elected positions than you can count on one hand. Truman was a notorious racist, the Late Senator Byrd was a Klan member, Bill Clinton's political mentor was a noted segregationist, and those are the ones I can think of right off the top of my head.

Isn't it Democrats who are throwing a tantrum about gun control after the shootings in Connecticut, but mention nothing about all of the black children killed by gang bangers with guns every year?

Doesn't look like a whole lot has changed.

an interesting side note is that this southern strategy caused the dems to adopt gun control as a shield against legitimate claims (which sometimes were spiced up with racist appeals) by the GOP that the Dems were weak on crime-especially black inner city violent crime

Lord have mercy!

He is an actor - not a theologian, not a preacher, not a statistician, not a historian, not a speaker - just an actor.

He needs to stick to being an actor, period.

Lord!

I'd be happy if he would stick to acting too. But he was a political activist before he was an actor. What he's saying this week at at whose invitation is consistent with his activism at San Francisco State.

It's one step at a time. It would be too difficult to take away hand guns and the like, but they believe they can get away with assault weapons bans or at the very least bullet control, than onto the next step to continue stripping our rights.

Ah, I was unaware of his previous occupation!

The viewpoint of actors and famous people mean nothing to me - I have never been the 'follower' type.

Me neither. But celebrity sells everything from coffeemakers to political opinions to "low-information" people. ;)

The UAW has been using Glover to speak to people about unions here in Jackson. I heard he is supposed to be coming back soon.

Yeah, but we live in this age, not the 1960's and prior. I'll say it again: after the Southern Strategy, it was the Republicans who became the racist party. Citing information that's relevant prior to the Southern Strategy isn't a response.

I suppose they realize that it's poverty (largely thanks to the era of Reaganomics) that has resulted in that mess, and not surprisingly, the GOP has only doubled down.
