When it comes to Evolution, Darwinism wins easily over 'Intelligent Design' theory (2nd article down WITH graphics as original)

    JOHN RENNIE, editor-in-chief
    June 2002
Opponents of evolution want to make a place for creationism by tearing down real science, but their arguments don't hold up.

When Charles Darwin introduced the theory of evolution through natural selection 143 years ago, the scientists of the day argued over it fiercely, but the massing evidence from paleontology, genetics, zoology, molecular biology and other fields gradually established evolution's truth beyond reasonable doubt. Today that battle has been won everywhere--except in the public imagination.

    Embarrassingly,
in the 21st century, in the most scientifically advanced nation the world has ever known, creationists can still persuade politicians, judges and ordinary citizens that evolution is a flawed, poorly supported fantasy."....

    1. Evolution is only a theory. It is not a fact or a scientific law.

Many people learned in elementary school that a theory falls in the middle of a hierarchy of certainty -- above a mere hypothesis but below a law. Scientists do Not use the terms that way, however. According to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), a scientific theory is "a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that can incorporate facts, laws, inferences, and tested hypotheses." No amount of validation changes a theory into a law, which is a descriptive generalization about nature. So when scientists talk about the theory of evolution -- or the atomic theory or the theory of relativity, for that matter -- they are not expressing reservations about its truth.

In addition to the theory of evolution, meaning the idea of descent with modification, one may also speak of the fact of evolution."..."

I usually just remind everyone that gravity is theory too.. While we pretty much have gravity buttoned down when it comes to our planet.. We are almost clueless when it comes to blackholes and how gravity effects light, or how the gas giants produce it it in such large quantities.. In either case, they can't deny gravity.. But yet it is a theory..

Oh, you guys up the thread mean "AGW," recently endorsed by Dr.Richard Muller, a former skeptic, who was a skeptic, within the boundaries of science, where only idiots don't believe in global warming, and "skeptics" who haven't heard of chainsaws are the subject of jokes!

Maybe you'd like to prove the Earth is flat, and when the northern cap melts, every summer, and the planet really starts to warm up, every northern summer, and then the sun gets off a decent number of sunspots, again, in some future cycle, maybe the Greenland ice won't melt, and since the Antarctic shelf ice will fail, maybe the East Antartic sheet won't slide off the continent, into the warming southern currents, which are already melting 100 cubic km, of West Antarctic ice, every year!

And then, since you guys and Heartland think the Earth is flat, all that melt will just flow right off the edge of the Earth, no problem, nothing to see here, move along! Creationists is, as creationists does, gumpsters.

Maybe you'd like 15 ways to explain how we have a faster out-gassing, of CO2 and CH4, than before any previous mass extinction event or the PETM, and we also have a lot of industrial GHG emissions, but maybe you think we aren't going to wind up, in the thick of Mass Extinction Event 6, to contend, for top killer, of all geologic time!

Tell you what. Maybe you guys who won't pick up on AGW, already need to go argue how the Earth is flat, after all, and God will strike Benedict dead, for claiming people who don't believe in global warming are atheists.

God is really all about some guy(s), who can do things, to your butt, when you are stealing at the 7-11. But if you won't believe in AGW, you are also in real trouble, so as to find yourself getting a rush, where one oughtna be.
