$600 a week?

Congress makes over $3300 per week. How do they have any idea what $600 a week buys?

$174,000 a year is how much an hour?

How many days per year do they work? I see people argue that teachers should make less because they only work nine months of the year and six hour days*, but I do not see those same people complain about Congressional members making six figures for working even less than that.

*Most teachers work far more than that with lesson plans, grading, after school programs, etc.

Look up how many ‘staff’ are allotted to House and Senate members. Up until this Administration, I never realized how many breaks they take.....

$600/week is equal to the federal minimum wage that Dems are clamoring for. Not bad for not working.

Where are the jobs?

Unless you’re a lawyer or an investigator........

Research? Logic? Whats your point?

Trump and the rest of the Republicans don't give a single **** about those with little or no money as they consider them all lazy or criminals.
They don't want to know what it's like and so they demonise the poor at every turn and claim it's a choice to be poor.

Thats painting with a pretty broad brush. But what would you have them do instead?

Most members have to maintain two residences---their homes and one in the District of Insanity.

90% of the country has jobs. Not bad eh?

Trump has cratered the economy with his COVID incompetence. All at-risk GOP senators will pay for this.

90% of those who were looking for jobs. Thats one of the issues we have. There's so much welfare, a significant number of people left the labor force. Maybe a few hundred thousand or a million, but thats billions in lost productivity. And with welfare to work requirements eroded since the 90s there is less incentive to work. 50 million people receive some sort of means tested welfare.

And that's in addition to the individual's own state unemployment allotment.

Oh yeah! They're all "rollin' in the dough". There are few states in which a male of working age can collect "welfare".

Unemployment benefits, until pandemic were funded by payroll taxes. Employees received less pay than they theoretically would if there was no unemployment fund tax. Take a look at how low household income must be to qualify for SNAP food subsidies.

At least 20 million jobs have suddenly been lost and economic uncertatinty of many still employed, especially small business owners, is a crisis inside the crisis.

If you shared my understanding, you might not have posted.

This is not a socialist country. Democrats are using the pandemic to further their socialist agenda. People should not receive more money for not working than they were earning while they were working, pandemic or no pandemic.

Let's not forget that the $600 is the extra amount added on to their normal unemployment check.

This is not a socialistic society. Democrats are trying to use the pandemic as a means of giving the poor more money than they had before and more money for not working than they earned for working.

What does your household bring in per week?

I drew unemployment once, in 1975 after getting out of the service. IIRC, it was in the amount of 200+$ per week.

This would be a bad thing why?
The poor would have more money that they would spend on things they need and thus help the economy.

People should not earn more on unemployment than they made while they were working. Wouldn't you agree?

We are not a socialist country. If you want socialism move to Russia, Cuba, or Venezuela.

I think you may need to learn what socialism is.

Giving people a bit of extra money during a pandemic to try to prevent masses of people being evicted and becoming homeless isn't socialism.
