Agreement on another relief bill?

How long do you think 30+ million unemployed will last without extended benefits? I'd say only a couple of months before they start to miss bills and become evicted. The GOP says 'get a job' but there aren't many, especially that suit the currently unemployed. I think by January we'll start to see the beginning of the full financial impact from the economic downturn.
They are now saying that they will get one done by Friday. Then vote on it next week, then send it to the WH to become effective. That means no assistance until probably the Last week in Aug or some time in Sept. The Repubs blew it big time and I can assure you that this is just one more nail in the coffin for them come November, since this should have never happened to begin with.

I don't see the public or even corporations giving Congress a free pass for exploding the economy over partisan bickering.

word. Next thing you know they will be shutting down the government because of partisan bickering for the first time ever

You appear to be making assumptions.

1. I really don't know what you are talking about here. "the reality is that reduced benefits could happen within two weeks of receiving it" Receiving what? What does that "it" refer to?

2. Who says that employers are complaining about the $600? In any case, I can think of a few reasons why they wouldn't report employees. Perhaps they just don't want to rat the employee out.

3. You seem to think that people having money equals a booming economy. Demand is only a part of the economy. Supply is the other part. The supply is getting hammered by various government actions...shutting down business, excessive fed unemployment, etc.

It receives to receiving notification from the employer that the employee has refused work.

Yes.. money means a booming activity. The economy is not suffering because of supply problems. Its suffering because of lack of demand. Sorry but the economy does not revolve around restaurants and bars.... people still have to eat. And they can still drink. IF what you say is true.. that supply is the problem.. then inflation should be shooting out of control.. lots of money and no supply.

But you go ahead and explain how we have a supply problem.. when inflation has decreased during the Covid epidemic..

Its seems that I am not the one making assumptions.

But we don't HAVE to spend all that money. The economy was doing great before the governors shut everything down. It was growing. Wages were growing. Manufacturing was growing. Hell, even the stock market was growing.

No...Trillions in government spending...Trillions we don't have...is not the solution. Letting people get on with their lives is the solution.

The government creating a depression and then saying that's why we need to spend Trillions we don't have is just about the most dumbass thing the government can ever do to their citizens. And that's exactly what our government is doing right now.

Yeah.. no. the economy was doing well.. BEFORE THE PANDEMIC. You keep saying.. before the governors shut things down. No.. the governors didn;t just shut things down... Most states never went into much of a shutdown.. at most it was bars and restaurants and hair salons... otherwise.. anything essential.. was open. and now..most areas opened up from even that. And yet.. the economy still crashes... and thats because of the pandemic. Because people aren;t going out to get sick. They are not traveling..etc.

The government didn;t create the depression.. the epidemic did.

Essentials didn't include small to medium shops, businesses that had people in an office and a lot of other places. Not just the ones you mentioned. And that was all on the order from the Governor. I think your state was the same.

Look. The virus can't shut anything down. Only government can do that.

Sure essentials included small and medium shops. It definitely included businesses that people had in offices. Cripes can you imagine not having TV or internet.. etc.. because "it occurs in an office"..

None of that got shut down. I have business in several states. Mostly red states.. some blue states. Very little when it comes to the economy got shut down by order. Restaurants.. and bars they got shut down.. hair/nail salons got shut down. beyond that? Not much.

What made business hurt.. was the virus. We had companies that had 20-30 employees all go out sick.. and so they had to shut down as employees were afraid to go to work. or they simply didn;t have healthy workers. Healthcare took a hit because we had the hospital overrun with covid patients and PPE could not be used for elective surgeries (our bread and butter). so elective surgeries were shut down. Not because of "these governors".. but because of the virus. Travel got hurt as people were afraid to travel and get sick.. and so on. And those shutdowns? They only lasted for a month..and then they were opened up. Currently.. in the harshest blue states I have businesses with the most restriction...the only restrictions are on events over 20 people were distancing can;t be enforced.. and bars must close at 10 pm as well as restaurants.
And mandatory masks... thats it for restrictions.

So don;t tell me that the economic crisis we have is because "oh.. bars can;t stay open past 10". Its because of the virus making people less likely to go out.. to travel. Because of businesses having employees get sick.. because of hospitals being full up with sick people.

The virus certainly is shutting things down. The business next to my office just shut down..why? Because everyone in it is out sick with covid and the owner is in the hospital with it and may end up on a vent the way he is going.

(irony.. the owner is one of these folks who has been calling it a "plandemic".. and thought it was a hoax).

It can if it kills everyone.

I did not notice any closures of small and medium businesses here in San Diego except for the ones we're all familiar with. Got a new vent cover for my RV. Got some new shoes. You get the idea.

I work in live entertainment. It is all shut down. Not because anybody ordered it but because there weren't enough tickets being sold. Conventions shut down in early march. Concerts/plays etc shortly afterwards. We're out until people feel safe enough to crowd together again. No profit otherwise.

The problem is the House wants it packed with pork. A clean bill will pass in a New York minute!

Your governor forbids people crowding together. That's why you don't have any shows or any work.

As usual, the Repubs screw everything up, then leave the incoming Dem to spend his administration cleaning-up after them. We Just saw this with G.W. / Obama. But I must admit, with Trump they found a superlative screwer-upper. It's going to take several terms to recover from him.

Wow! You are so easily misled.

So I'm hearing one of the hold ups is that democrats want billions of dollars from the federal government for cities like Minneapolis to repair the damage done by peaceful protesters. The democrat mayors didn't want help to stop the violence so they don't need help now to pay for the damages.

What exactly did the Republicans do to "screw everything up". Other than choke and laugh at Pelosi's continuing wish list of non-civid related pork?

We really are ****ed.... so many people’s lives cut short. Why should a president ever have immunity from prosecution?....

The virus kills people.... if it kills the staff and the owner, the business shuts down....

He shouldn't.

On a positive note, congress delayed their recess because a new relief bill did not pass. Who thinks Donald Trump will enact an executive order to extend unemployment benefit bonuses and rent moratorium?

Republican's want to limit spending to 1 Trillion dollars and Democrat's are seeking 3 Trillion in aid.

Republican's have two strong points

1. $600 Unemployment bonus is possibly a reason for some to not work, as they make more with the bonus.
2. The Democrat's are requesting aid to help State's that were long struggling before Coronavirus 19. The aid should be exclusively for Coronavirus 19 related debt.

Now, the Republican's have stepped out of line a few times as well with some hidden provisions. For example, the 100% lunch right-off that is claimed to help boost restaurant businesses will no doubt be abused.

In the end, we are looking at a 2 Trillion dollar aid package.

Opinions and thoughts please.

Please explain why democrats insisting on mail in ballots being part of the relief bill is essential for relief? The democrats want things that have nothing to do with helping those out of work.

They are assisting people in voting using things that already exist.

Look at the historical economic charts, as they relate to Presidential party.

As to today, look at the current economy and pandemic response (which are inter-related).

You don't see how mail-in balloting relates to Covid 'relief'?
