Lets Raise Taxes, For Liberals

No he hasn’t. Manufacturing is in recession. Farmers are going bankrupt. The stock market is doing well but average Americans don’t have sizable holdings.
In the meantime, he’s trying to take away health insurance and it’s been recently reported that if re-elected he’ll cut Medicare and Social Security.
Wrong, wrong, wrong. BTW, Medicare and Social Security are on track to cut themselves. Oh, and we have new trade deals with China South Korea and Japan, and as soon as Brexit happens we'll have one with Britain.

What this new deal does is Trump surrendering on much of his tariffs but keeping many of them. Now, he is repeated threats to impose prohibitive tariffs on imports of automobiles from Europe.

Let’s all remember who pays those tariffs, American consumers. Tariff Man still believes that protectionism will revive American manufacturing, even though the evidence says that his trade war had the opposite effect.

Well, yeah! That's why it's called Phase One.

And yet it was reported a while back that the tariffs really didn't affect Americans that much because suppliers ate most of the price increase.

Vox again?

Not so, since the national debt continues to increase no matter who holds majority power in DC.

I've pointed out before that the debt rises no matter what party is in the majority of Congress or holds the WH. However, the debt rises a higher avg annual % more often under Rep admin than Dem admin. In reality, I don't believe Dems raise taxes to pay-off the higher debt run-up by the Reps. But, the Trump tax plan gave too much away unnecessarily to the rich and large corps and those tax rates should be adjusted back to as they were. That would be an example of Dems raising taxes, if they get the political power and will to do so, because of a prior tax giveaway to those that don't need it nor does it produce anything of benefit to the country, like private domestic investment that translates to more jobs and/or higher incomes for the avg American.

It would take about a 40% increase in personal federal income tax revenue to balance the federal budget. Unfortunately, neither party is in favor of doing that. Borrow and spend federal "budget" policy results in a congressional re-election rate of over 90% - so long as that persists there is no political pressure to raise taxes.

The astounding stupidity of your statement is so sad I almost feel bad for you. You voted for this guy...

Because you think he cares about average Americans? Have you considered the possibility that the reason you're just an average American is because you don't make very bright choices?
I stand corrected, liberals look down on their fellow Americans just because they don't make a lot of money and didn't go to college.

Its usually the liberals who always want to raise taxes. So here is what I propose, we do raise taxes, but only for liberals.

It's always the "conservatives" who want to blow up deficits so we have to borrow. You people have us borrowing over a trillion a year now. Between Reagan, Bush Jr, and Trump, you've successfully put us on a course to financial disaster, all to suck up to monied interests.

And now you want liberals to bail you out? Figures.

No, they just resent dishonesty, especially when someone tells a particularly stupid lie, as in the OP. I just want to see us actually paying for what we spend. Thanks to you guys on the right, we're borrowing a trillion a year.

You try calling that "letting people keep more of their money", but we both know how stupidly dishonest that framing is. Bush slashed taxes - between that, Medicare D, and the pointless war in Iraq - he drove us up to 400+ billion/year deficits. Then the mortgage and finance bubble blew up, and Bush handed Obama a 1.4 trillion one-year deficit to start. He got that down to the 500ish or so billion/year, but in comes the "conservative" who blows it right back up to over 1 trillion a year.

In a good economy.

Naturally, the right's dishonest move is to say we need to slash the safety net to make up for the right's reckless policies of destroying government revenue with unneeded tax cuts, always aimed primarily at the richest.

We should have a national referendum on it, and everyone who votes for it will have to pay for it for the first 10 years, and those who don't vote for it won't have to.

Members of the left already have the option to pay more - the Treasury takes donations.

Thats not how this works :D.

I am guessing that we are talking about Federal INCOME taxes. If that is the case I would like to see the poll numbers if the question is to raise taxes on ALL individuals, including those that pay zero or negative taxes under current law.

If you live in this country you are paying the taxes too. Sorry you dont like living in society.

Why don't we have a thread discussing how our Federal tax system could be made fairer to ALL, and simpler to administer.

If we're going to complain, let's try to reach agreement on what a vast majority of people would accept regardless of political leaning, and demand our elected politicians carry out the will of the people.

And yet Obama added over 9 trillion dollars to the national debt during the 8 years he was in office, more than all the presidents before him put together.

Such as Bloomberg?

I am sure you would much rather pay out SS and Medicare until there isn't any more than actually take steps to make sure future generations will still have it.

According to the latest report of the Social Security Trustees, the total cost of the program in 2018 was $1,000 billion. Total income was $1,003 billion. For 2019, program cost is projected to be
less than total income by about $1 billion.

As I said earlier, minor tweaking of revenue can address any long-term shortfall.

That's what Trump is planning on doing, he's not "cutting" anything. Look it up.

Proposal denied.
