Trump promised Bob Woodward he would pay off the national debt in two terms.

He was the one who promised to pay off the debt. He had control of both houses, and he didn't do jack.

And Obama had control of both houses and didn't do jack. John, you really disappoint me. You are the one who says national debt doesn't matter and it never has to be paid back and now you hypocritically attack Trump for adding to the debt that you say doesn't matter anyway.

You're changing the subject. Trump is a flagrant liar and he is dangerously delusional.

Newsflash: They are all flagrant liars. Obama and company was no different. About the only difference is you take a bunch of silliness (like crowd size) and count those as lies. For things that really matter, other politicians have lied much more than Trump.

There was nothing silly about Trump claiming that he could pay off the national debt in two terms, and claiming that Mexico would pay for his wall. Nobody lies like Trump.

I don't give a damn about what comes out of Trump's mouth. I really don't. I ignore it all. The country is running pretty close to the way I want it to and it wouldn't be if Hillary had been elected. If Trump wants to claim camels have stripes I really don't give a ****. Add it to your list of lies while the country goes merrily along, mostly in the right direction. By the way, I'm not happy about the national debt but the solution is certainly not to elect a socialist who wants to more than double our national debt.

In 1946 the national debt was 119% of gross domestic product (GDP). By 1989 it declined to 32% of GDP. The decline happened during the wars in Korea and Vietnam. In 2019 national debt as a percentage of GDP is estimated to reach 106%.

National Debt by Year Compared to GDP and Major Events

The reason for the increase has been the decline in the top tax rate from 70% in 1980

to 37% in 2019.

How to find out what tax bracket you'''re in under the new tax law

During the 1950's the top tax rate was 91 - 92%.

I have never said the "national debt doesn't matter and never has to be paid back."

And yet, Trump added over 2 Trillion to the National Debt during his first two years in office. Is that your idea of a solution?

What on Earth are you talking about? I'm a conservative. I am against the national debt. Therefore, I certainly wouldn't entrust it to the progressives, who don't give one damn bit about the debt but hypocritically like to criticize Trump for it.

No. But, 2 trillion dollars is much better than paying reparations to slave descendants, wanting MFA, forgiving student loan debt, offering free college, and spending 93 trillion dollars on the Green New Deal.

Excuse me. If you are against the national debt, why do you support Republicans who cut taxes for the rich while increasing military spending? Republicans seem to think that the Pentagon can be funded with pennies from heaven.

I've already explained that to you numerous times. I do not support a party who wants reparations to slave descendants, wants MFA, wants to forgive student loan debt, wants to offer free college, and wants to spend 93 trillion dollars on the Green New Deal. Facing those prospects, adding one trillion dollars to the debt every year is chicken feed. Let me know when the Democrats are serious about wanting to cut down on the debt.

This is what you said:

Where did I say you did? I was talking to John. Is your name John? Wasn't it his post I was replying to, not yours? I swear, you liberals hear what you want to hear and read what you want to read.

OK, fine. What about cutting taxes while increasing military spending? That is what Republican presidents do.

93 trillion?

I don't know if you like Tucker Carlson or not, but he had a segment on student loan debt the other night that seemed to offer a good solution, imo.

Colleges should share the liability of the student loan debt.

Where did you get that $93 trillion estimate of the New Green Deal? Oh, you parroted Trump, who got it from a Tweet.

The Energy 202: Trump's $100 trillion price tag for the Green New Deal may have come from a tweet

President Trump said the Green New Deal will cost $100 trillion.
But the Democratic authors of the sweeping climate change effort that also includes significant changes to the social safety net didn't estimate how much such an effort would cost American taxpayers.
In fact, the president's $100 trillion figures seems to have originated from one conservative's back-of-the-envelope calculations on Twitter.

No matter what you say compares to what the Democrats flat out say they want to do. Spend tens of trillions of dollars on everything under the sun. Get back to me when that is not the case. Until then, the two trillion Trump has added is chicken feed. You don't get mad at Republicans for adding two trillion dollars onto the debt and elect a party who wants to add 100 trillion dollars onto the debt.

The loans never should have been made in the first place. We got into trouble during the Great Recession for giving many loans to people who could not pay them back and now we write blank checks to college students who should have never been given loans in the first place.

Take the 93 trillion completely away and Democrats are already on record for wanting to add much more money onto the debt than Trump and the Republicans have.

A problem has to be recognized before it can be solved. Watch the video...he makes a good case as to whose fault the student loan debt crisis really is. Hint: it's not the students.

Tucker Carlson Tonight - Student Debt Crisis | Facebook

The student debt crisis a serious problem that needs to be fixed and soon....or it will bring this country to it's knees.

The items that Democrats want to provide are merely what other countries are able to afford. I am patriotic and think that Americans are capable of doing anything other nations are able to do. How come you have so little faith in America's abilities?

They are only unaffordable when one is invested in not providing services to the people, in order to provide low or no taxes for the rich.
