There is a Republican President and once again, we can expect the internet to attract a certain type of troll.

The Democrat who has suddenly discovered the massive debt that Democrats have created.

Of course, the suddenly concerned liberal doesn't care where the debt came from.

Factcheck Quote -
The federal debt more than doubled under Obama, and he left Trump a legacy of worsening deficits.
Obama's Final Numbers - FactCheck.org

Obama's Parting Gift: $20 Trillion In Public Debt And A Rising Budget Deficit | Zero Hedge

But now the liberals who didn't care the Trillion dollar deficits when Obama was President....

2008 $459 (Bush’s last year)

2009 $1,413 (Obama’s first year)

2010 $1,294

2011 $1,300

2012 $1,087

2013 $680

2014 $485

2015 $438

2016 $585

Are terrified about projected deficits under Trump.

That interest on the old debt will make up about 400 billion of "Trump deficit" this year doesn't matter.

After Obama ran up more public debt than all the Presidents in history combined, he sealed America's fate. There is no way to fix this.

One can only wonder where the Democratic concern for debt was when it mattered.

In 1996, Republicans did the unthinkable, to stop debt.

Republicans basically made Democrat Bill Clinton the King of America.

The Line Item Veto Act of 1996.

The President would be able to control the budget, and thereby, in reality, control everything in America.

Immediately Democrats filed lawsuits to stop the ultimate tool for stopping debt.

The Kings of Debt and Waste, saw it as an affront to their very existence.

That a Republican Congress would give this much power to a Democrat, speaks volumes about how much conservatives care about stopping debt.

But it speaks even greater about how much Democrats care about spending.

Democrats turned down unlimited power to pursue any agenda they wished in order to spend.

Clinton v. City of New York, 524 U.S. 417 (1998), the Supreme Court ruled that the line-item veto impermissibly gave the President the power to unilaterally amend or repeal parts of statutes that had been duly passed by Congress.

Repeatedly, Republicans have tried control government spending.

The Republicans have consistently tried to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment that would end debt.

Republicans have repeatedly put their money where their mouth is when it comes to stopping the debt.

Democrat have repeatedly put their money where their mouth is when it comes to exploding the debt.

It's truly sickening to watch the same people who fought FOR the debt, now complain about the consequences of the debt.

The biggest fraud is your deceptive display of figures. Let me help you with the facts.

First of all, you need to use real debt figures. Meaning, adjusted for inflation. Or, using a same-year value (1984 is often used). That’s how you get what’s called a fair comparison. The figures I’m using are adjusted for inflation. Oh, yeah, and fiscal year, not calendar year. Another thing is to compare by percentage, not dollar amount. Regardless of inflation, our economy grows such that we deal with more dollars than before. So, its best to compare by percentage differences.

Going back to Reagan, the following are the average annual debt variance by president. The average is simply dividing the total debt variance % by the number of years in office. Trump is not included as only two FY is not a fair comparison.

Reagan: 13.7%; Bush1 8.1%; Clinton 0.9%; Bush2 8.7%; Obama 6.1%;

Historical United States National Debt Balances, 1791-2019

What is very important to add is that Obama inherited the Great Recession that required a stimulus plan that added $827B to the national debt by 2014. The Obama economic plan brought us back to pre-recession economic condition with all economic indicators on the rise. Trump to that rising economy over and then gave away over $2T to the rich and large corps for nothing in return.

To say that Republicans run-up less debt than the Dems is a false statement.

LMAO watching liberal math... it's funny.

Ya see.. hear's the plan...we make insurance companies pay out more...and then they lower rates by $2500 dollars.

What could go wrong?

Of course, if you can't see the flaw in that plan, I guess there is nothing you can't swindled into believing.

Ya see..hear's the thing...a couple a days ago, if I owed 1 dollar then I borrowed another dollar...bringin the total owed to 2 dollars.

That a 100% increase in the debt.

But today the debt is $100,000 dollars if I borrow $99,000 dollars that's only a 99% increase in the debt.

So in Obamamath $99,000 is less than $1 dollar, and you keep your doctor and healthcare plan while your rate goes down by $2500 dollars. That's why you "compare by percentage, not dollar amount

Yeah...ok good luck with that. It is literally hilarious to watch the depths some people will go to so they can hide from reality.

A quick question. Has president trump increased the debt with the help of a republican congress?

Good question.
The part of Congress which has the Power of the Purse, is the House of Representatives. It is not controlled by Republicans.
In Trump's first two years, it was controlled by Republicans. The numbers they brought in were better than projected.

Obama's Final Numbers - FactCheck.org

But deficits were again on the rise as Obama left office. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated in June 2017 that the deficit for FY 2017 which ends Sept. 30 and is the last one for which Obama signed spending bills will increase to $693 billion.

But the Republicans brought it in lower, which is why you do not use "fiscal years" to describe the impact politicians have upon the economy. Using fiscal years basically removes an entire year from the record, even though the economic policies of the party in power are affecting the economy..
The deficits -
2017 $665
2018 $779
Then Democrats took over the House.
2019 $ 1092 It's a 40% increase

It's a forty percent increase because of the trump and his republican friends tax cuts. We're only halfway through 2019 so it's kinda' hard to blame the dems.

No. Once again..math problems rear their ugly little head.

The Republican Tax Cuts have produced the largest tax revenues in history.

It's spending that's causing the problem, not earning.

However, in a shocking development....I do agree with you that the current Democrats are not entirely to blame.

If you actually read the original post, you'll see where the increase in spending came from. But we both know, that's out of the question.

The GOP put their money where their mouth is by repeatedly cutting taxes that run up the debt, then declaring a crisis caused by the tax cuts, because the deficits and debt went up, as planned.

Why didn't that get into your timeline of significant events?

George W. Bush inherited a roughly balanced budget, immediately cut taxes twice, blew up spending across the board, and the rest is history. Oddly the GOP in charge at that time when they jammed through deficit busting tax cuts didn't bring up a BBA? Odd.....

And I won't waste time going back to all those show-votes on the BBA, but the last one required a 2/3 supermajority to raise taxes. Why is that if the concern is the deficit? Revenues minus expenditures = surplus (deficit) so why the special restrictions on one half of that equation?

So the gop will pass a balanced budget every time they control congress? Read a book son. Lol

Exactly what part of a LINE ITEM VETO or a BALANCED BUDGET AMENDMENT do you not understand?

A balanced budget every year is exactly what Republicans have voted to obtain. Even if that meant giving Bill Clinton virtually unlimited power.

You can not put your money where your mouth is better than Republican's have done.

Well the first thing you need to understand that the budget is not how the government pays its Bill's. You do know that.....dont you?

The line item veto is just an excuse for Congress to pass the buck to POTUS, and the courts struck that down, as predicted. And POTUS has a "line item veto" with the power to veto a spending bill. If he or she is very opposed to a spending item or items, he can veto that budget bill, make his objections known, and send it back. Keep doing that until they cut the spending or override the veto. It's called doing your job as POTUS.

In the meantime a budget is a compromise document. What line item vetos allow is to undo those compromises, or to exact a price on political enemies by selectively killing the items important to that person or state or region. It's bad policy all the way around and vests too much power in the Executive on spending, which the Constitution grants to Congress, not POTUS.

And the BBAs were all show votes that every person voting in favor knew, 100%, had no chance at passing or being ratified.

Let's deal with your first rant...
In your fantasy land..Tax cuts run up the debt.
How do Tax Revenue INCREASES run up the debt?

Before we try to explain math to a Democrat... let's look at a confusing little reality.

Obama was elected in 2008, he controlled 60 votes in the Senate and 60% of the House.
Remember, "We have to pass the bill, so that you (Republicans) can find out what is in it."?
Does complete, zero compromise Obama control ring a bell?

So why did Obama, in total control do this?
Obama signs bill to extend Bush-era tax cuts for two more years

Bill O’Reilly’s interview with President Obama (Transcript)

WHOOAHH!!! What just happened there?

Why did Obama first extend the Bush Tax Cuts and then make them permanent?

What happened to the rich paying their "Fair Share"? It didn't happen when Obama had filibuster proof Super-Majorities in both Houses.

Why? Think about an excuse for that and then I'll give you the mathematical answer.

Obama could have wiped out the Bush tax Cuts in one second if he had wanted to...but he didn't want to.

I've dealt with this 100 times on DP and I don't feel like doing it again. If you want to find any economist who claims that, post the quotes, post your evidence.

You're arguing for a free lunch, that how we can grow government, make it bigger, fund more programs, spend more and more and more and more, is to just keep cutting taxes and the increases in revenue will fund BIGGER government.

If they did that then they couldn't spend more then they take in and couldn't give their big money friends another tax cut.

The fed could pay it off with a keystroke. It is absurd to think taxes will pay it off or that growth will somehow create a surplus that can take it down.

Yep...What I expected.

No answers for why Obama, along with filibuster proof Democratic Super Majorities in both Houses extended the "Evil Bush Tax Cuts".

No answers for why Obama, along with filibuster proof Democratic Super Majorities in both Houses didn't tax the hell out of the rich.

Cause more taxes would fix everything..right?

But when Democrats had the ability to do ANYTHING they wanted...

When Democrats had the ability to Put Up or Shut Up...what happened?

All the propaganda that the liberals are laughably trying to defend in this thread turned out to be bull$*!%.

The reason is simple enough - Bush II handed off the worst recession in 80 years. Thanks George! And fiscal retraction in the teeth of a massive, worldwide recession is dumb.

And I never claimed more taxes fix everything, just that cutting them lowers revenue, because MATH. You reject math, reject the experts and are repeating brain dead talking points that claim the way to make government bigger, spend more, fund more liberal programs, is just keep cutting taxes! Of course that is stupid.

We were suffering from the Great Bush recession and it was not the time to raise taxes. As soon as we were in recovery Obama did raise taxes on the wealthy while keeping the middle class cuts. He also cut the deficit by 75%. Still waiting for a Republican President who did not raise the deficit in his term. Trumps current deficit is now higher than any Obama deficit in his 2nd term.

I'm not sure what's funnier...
A liberal who thinks Obama lowering the debt he's responsible for by a little bit is a good thing.
or...
A liberal who thinks time stopped in 2014.
Gee...why does your silly chart, (which does not reflect actual dollar amounts), stop in 2014?
Why don't you want to talk about Obama's legacy?

I'll tell you whats funnier..... a Republican who cuts the deficit. Trump current deficit is the highest it has been in 6 years. Cutting taxes and increasing spending will do that as Reagan, GW Bush and now Trump are proving. Remember VP Cheney's words....."Reagan proved deficits don't matter."
