Nothing is mandated at levels of expenditure beyond providing for the defense of the nation. Not one single founder would have supported our current military expenditures or system. Now one can say the world has changed since then so we should ignore them and proceed. But that simply excuses any military expenditure at all levels by giving them carte blanche to do anything they want under the guise of self defense. We have purposely allowed our military to grow to this level, providing for our defense alone does not require 600 billion a year.

Thats just politics. If people dont like how much we spend on defense, they should vote different people in. The point is, defense actually is mandated and actually the purpose of govt. Social spending is not, and it costs 3x as much. Ive got no problem cutting social spending out almost entirely at the federal level, and cutting defense spending to a more reasonable amount.
