McConnell says Medicare, Social Security causing ‘disturbing’ deficit increase
The Senate majority leader rejects criticism that last year's Republican tax cuts are to blame for the country's rising debt.
WASHINGTON – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday called the ballooning budget deficit “very disturbing” but said large federal spending programs are to blame, dismissing criticism that last year’s Republican-backed tax cuts are saddling the country with more debt.

Here we go, this is the beginning of the end if Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan get their way. Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are NOT the reason for the exploding deficit, it's the tax cuts these Republicans gave to the rich. everyone knew that was going to happen, but what other excuse could Ryan and McConnell have for pillaging and cutting benefits to poor people? Blame it on the poorest populations in this country, take away what they have so wealthy men like them can continue to steal and rob all the money from this country.

If there's still people in the US that don't get it yet that the few bucks the Republicans put in your paycheck every month while at the same time gave the wealthy a huge tax break is the reason the U.S. deficit is blowing up, then you're out of your minds. You might even remember us 'nay-sayers' telling you "this tax bill is going to blow up the deficit. The next thing Ryan and McConnell are going to come after are your Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid!" Does anyone remember that? Probably not.

Can you imagine what's going to happen when Republicans cut the small benefits millions upon millions of seniors and people on disability are receiving and rely on to be able to live? People are going to die, that's what. But before they do, there's going to be such civil war that many will die. I believe there's many Democratic candidates running for election in the mid-terms that will be using Mitch McConnell's words in their campaign advertising.

Yep, so long as the FICA (payroll) taxes yielded a surplus it was gladly borrowed and spent. Now that the FICA revenue surplus is going away it is suddenly cause for grave concern. The answer is not to cut SS/Medicare benefits (or to use general revenue/borrowing to make up the shortfall) - the answer is to increase the FICA (payroll) tax rates (as was last done in 1986?) to restore the pay-as-you-go status of SS/Medicare funding.

Dear Sen McConnell. The tax cuts created the increase. You and your party passed this legislation that did NOT address the deficit. Own it and stop blaming other forces at work...

Yep, it was only a matter of time before congress had to look at cutting 'mandatory' federal spending since even cutting 100% of non-defense, 'discretionary' federal spending would not eliminate the federal deficit.

We knew that the Trump tax cuts (for the wealthy) would be paid for by the rest of Americans by cutting programs that they actually have PAID FOR all their working lives. That was always McConnell's and Ryan's plan, and even if they do cut benefits (already paid for) the RATE of debt growth will rise compared to when Democrats are in power; it always does.

People will pay into Social Security on income up to $128,400. In January 2019 it will go to $132,900. The maximum S.S. contribution that anyone rich is responsible for is $17,040. That means that anyone earning more than that pays the max and no more. If a person is wealthy and earning millions of dollars a year, the most they're going to pay into Social Security is $17,040. The Republicans gave a healthy tax cut to these very people that really aren't paying their fair share to begin with and find legal loopholes in the tax code to pay absolutely no taxes like Jared Kushner for the past 10 years.

Essentially what's happening is that the rich are robbing the country blind and we're no longer a democratic republic, we're a country of elites and autocrats and the rest of us will be reduced to a 3rd world country economically.

Mitch McConnell and his entire antigovernment conspiring GOP racket have done nothing but remain a lingering threat who have constantly increased deficits, co mingled with foreign enemy dark money elements in their anti Democracy and anti government conspiracies that has created a perilous threat against society, governance and the global economy. Yet these GOP terrorist constantly issue threats against Social Security and other taxpayer paid benefits at thinking they are entitled to destroy the well being of society and further prey on the taxpayer. Hopefully next month, the Blue Wave of Justice will purge a number of these GOPers out of Congress in order to correct the terrible mistake that happened in 2010 when Repukes did their coup on Congress that has resulted in a curse and bad karma ever since.

Donald Trump erodes Social Security and Medicare solvency while blaming Democrats

Trump says Democrats want to destroy Social Security and Medicare (they don't) and he's making them stronger (he isn't). They've weakened on his watch."
