Who Foots the Bill?

Japan pays for the lodging of its dignitaries when they stay in the US. Sometimes we pick up the tab for non heads of state officials from poorer countries. I used to cut travel orders for military officers from SE Asian countries and then processed their reimbursements upon their return. We do this when it is in our best interest that they make the visit but that country doesn’t have the funds to support the trips. But Japan isn’t one of those countries.

Trump considers Mar-a-Lago the Winter White House. If the past shady dealings of The Don are any exemplar ... taxpayers pay.

Trump is setting a new record for how much taxpayers pay for his lavish lifestyle.

Not as much, but they cost us far too much. And it was wrong then too. Tax payers should not be paying for vacations at all.

And with Trump it is worse. He takes more vacations. And he takes them to properties he owns and pays for them with tax payer money. Not only is he vacationing on the tax payer dime, but he is profiting off it. Free is bad, profiting is worse.

To add insult to injury, Trump was brutal to Obama on this subject.

Trump specifically promised that he wouldn't be that way. Now he and his family are way worse than the Obamas were.

Japan’s Prime Minister is visiting DJT @ Mar a Lago. Abe must have a large contingent with him. Do they stay at the resort and who pays?

Japan pays and Trump keeps it.

very nice of him to not accept the presidential salary. other presidents had money and did accept it.

kudos to trump for that. everyone should agree that its a great gesture.

Let's see:
Trump waives the presidential salary of $400,000 a year. On the other side of the balance sheet he charges the government to stay at his own home; plus, he charges the government for the room and boarding of his Secret Service detail. Then, when dignitaries come to visit the U.S., he arranges them to meet at Mar-a-largess-Largo, so he can charge their governments also -- in complete violation of the emoluments clause of the constitution.

Of course, his supporters, who (falsely) called Clinton a crook, are fine with this.

Make no mistake, Trump is profiteering off the government. I am sure G.W. Bush doesn't charge the Secret Service at his ranch.

Government paid for official's stay at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club

Secret Service paid Mar-a-Lago at least $63,000, documents show

Prove that the profit is excessive or unfair.

the Bush's have their primary residence in Dallas.

Perhaps you can dig up a chart showing the percent of GDP that each President spent on entertaining foreign dignitaries and when traveling.

So many big items to complain about, this is peanuts

That’s right, deflect from the issue. A president shouldn’t be charging the government for staying at his own properties. He also shouldn’t be charging the government for room and board for his security detail and it violates the constitution for a president to take money from foreign governments.

So you can't prove that the profit is excessive or unfair (your point, not mine). Trump hasn't charged the government for staying at his own properties, but I'm very sure he's been charging fair market value to the Secret Service (your point, not mine), and I believe the courts have already ruled on the emoluments clause. All politicians have charged for housing Secret Service. I think the last overblown big stink about it I can remember was at Biden's house in Delaware. It was silly then too.

Again, so much to complain about, you are harping on peanuts.

Still waiting for that glossy chart showing how each President's spend on foreign dignitaries and on travel have compared as a percent of GDP. That has been your measure of comparable levels of government expense.

It isn't deflection in responding to the points you made, it is deflection accusing me of deflecting. Answer my points and prove me wrong.
