[h=1]After temporary shutdown, Congress passes two-year spending deal[/h]
In the end, a bipartisan cohort of lawmakers supported the $400 billion agreement. Shortly after 1:30 a.m. ET, the Senate voted, 71-28, to approve a two-year spending bill that would reopen the government, and the House passed it at 5:30 a.m. with the support of 240 members.

The spending deal was hammered out between the Republican and Democratic Senate leaders. It increases domestic spending by $131 billion and defense spending by $165 billion over the next two years and suspend the debt limit for one year — until well after the midterm elections.

Cut taxes, increase spending, and suspend the debt limit until after the elections. That's the current plan.

pretty sad for America. We could simply make govt debt illegal but Democrats won't hear of anything that sounds like fiscal responsibility!

Yea the Repukes have demonstrated wonderful fiscal responsibility. What a joke!

Correct, and neither will the Republicans.

Remember who has a majority in both houses currently?

I believe it took quite a few democratic votes to pass the bill. Its on them too. But you are right that bill was a very sad joke.

You have a republican congress and presidency. If t isn’t getting done it’s cause republicans don’t want it to.

True but they all voted against that budget busting tax cuts bill. Any future arguments by repukes related to fiscal conservatism can now be ignored because it's obvious it's only complete bull****!!!

Please see the link in #6. There is no longer a constituency for fiscal discipline.

Absotely. They should never have caved in to democrats on spending. It was irresponsible.

Of course, the flip side is that if there were any conservative democrats left, or any willing/able to participate in the process, they wouldn't have had to.

So let me get this straight. The repukes pass a budget busting tax cut bill. They then pass an increased spending bill with some democrats and its all the dems fault. You should be a used car salesman.

Love how all of you are blaming the other side. Fact of the matter is that Republicans could not pass this bill without Democrat's help. And Democrats could not have passed this bill without Republican help. Those are FACTS. The only time a "majority" is worth mentioning is when the majority actually has enough people on their side to pass a bill without the other sides help. If they don't then all bills must be bi-partisan. IE: Both sides agreeing to passing the bill. For this reason no matter what happens it is the fault of BOTH Republicans AND Democrats. For good or ill. Both sides own this bill.

very true indeed. but lets not forget the ignorant voters of America keep splitting their votes and splitting the number of Republicans and Democrats they send to Washington. This is what is responsible for the gridlock in Washington.

They passed tax cuts which will stimulate the economy and help the budget in the long term. Yes.

They caved to democrat demands for additional spending (really budget busting) to get the budget passed, yes.

No, it's not all the Dems fault, but a significant portion is.

its 100% Dems fault. They always want more spending to buy votes even now after they are already spending over $4 trillion a year! THe only solution is to make liberals illegal as our Founders intended.

Tax cuts have never paid for themselves. Plus in a rising rate environment the interest on the debt will rise. Usually used car salesmen have some smarts as well as guile. Maybe not. The tax cuts will raise the debt more than the spending. After all they used accounting gimmicks to keep it only bad. The individual cuts are temporary. They become permanent and it will be a complete disaster. The few bucks extra in the average persons paycheck won't be nearly enough to cover the inflation.

Right. Obamas $10 trillion addition to the debt caused no inflation but Trumps $1 trillion will be the end of civilization.

Ask them how much of Obama's TAD, total accumulated debt, was due to interest payment on previous debt, just for starters.

Ask them where infrastructure money will come from now that it's been given away with trump's tax heist.

Ask the voodoo GOP crowd why they will now rediscover
fiscal responsibility when it comes to cutting every single social program ...

During the Obama administration interest on the debt was never more than about 6% of the federal budget.

Analysis
Why did GOP vote for a budget-busting spending bill? Because voters don’t seem to care.
Voter concern over surging deficits is at its lowest level in nearly a generation, so supporting the deal became an easy political vote — despite the inherent ideological contradictions.

I have a feeling that the GOP is going to be in the same situation they were at the end of GWB Administration. All this spending is ok until the economy goes to hell and in a hand basket.

Unless it doesn't.

Stating it as a % of the federal budget is deceivingly dishonest in this discussion, as you know.

6% of 4 trillion is 240 billion a year, though not as much as banana republicans are throwing away this year several times, to their many dirty laundry men.

240 billion times 8 is 3.2 trillion in interest during Obama's time, of no concern to today's GOP deficit doves ....

It's just a number. To call it "dishonest" is silly. The point is that interest on prior debt was never a large part of Obama's budgets. And don't forget that with each passing year of his administration that interest was increasingly paid on debt he himself had accumulated.
