There is nothing more BONE-HEADED to me, than sending kids that grew up here, and were educated here to a foreign country so they can stimulate the economy there (not here) to pay taxes there (not here.) Keeping in mind that there are dreamers all over this country that are on college campus's and in Universities.

Social Security/Medicare. Back in the 1950's average family size was 4 kids. Over the last several decades family size has been reduced to 2 or less kids. 10K babyboomers are entering social security on a daily basis, and this rate will continue for the next 9 to 10 years. Adding an additional 84 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities. One working person is now supporting 3 retirees on borrowed money from China. Social Security/Medicare is the reason we're continually having to raise the debt ceiling. Right now we don't have the younger generation population in this country to support the military.

So your options are:
1. Let Social Security/Medicare go bankrupt.
2 Cut benefits to the bone.
3. Raise the age of eligibility to 75 years old.
4. Means testing (meaning take from the wealthier to give to the poorer)
5. Keep kids that grew up in this country and that were educated in this country (right here) to support these funds, while also paying Federal and State taxes while stimulating the economy.

RONALD REAGAN started the biggest and longest lasting economic boom period in this country. What he do differently from other Presidents? With a swipe of a pen he legalized all illegals in this country.

They came out of their hiding places, got real jobs and started paying real taxes. They opened up their own business's and hired other Americans. They bought & built homes, American cars, T.V's and electronics, furniture, appliances. They went to school & paid for college educations. They had no fear. They set off the longest lasting economic boom period in this Nation's history.

If you don't remember who Reagan was, then Doug Elmets a long time friend and former staffer of Reagan can explain it.

The next serious consquence: Migrant workers are not crossing the border to help farmers bring in their harvests which is now skyrocketing prices on beef, chicken, eggs, milk and fruit and vegi's are rotting on the vine. All due to the hateful rhetoric coming from the Right wing.

That's exactly what the Heartless want to do.

Why? because they don't see these kids as Human Beings ... it's that simple.

All wonderful arguments for allowing legal immigration but not valid arguments for open borders or granting head of line privileges to those that jumped the border or overstayed a visa. That is flipping the middle digit to those (fools?) that are patiently waiting in their homelands for pemission to legally enter the US.

Using only those "dreamers" that are now contributing adults (by working illegally?) is also dishonest - the DACA policy is enetered as a minor and remained here five years which includes many minors that pay no taxes and use plenty of services. What do you expect the economic impact of 6 to 15 year old "dreamers" is going to be when their illegal alien parents are deported? Oh yeah, that means we need DAPA too. ;)

There aren't enough heartless. Never.going.to.happen.

This is yet ANOTHER bill that should sail right through without anything else attached to it. But THAT would be uncharacteristic of Congress, wouldn't it?

All your side has to do is fund the wall and border security and you get to keep your Dreamers.

Of course your politicians would hate to do that as they want to use anger over the Dreamers to help take back the Senate.

Ball's in your court.

The problem with DACA is that it needs DAPA for the "dreamers" that have been here for 5 years but are now aged 6 to 17. It is fairly easy to feel sorry for folks that were brought here illegally as children with no choice in the matter but using that to reward those that brought them here is another matter entirely. Why should someone get special (head of the line) privileges simply because they entered (or remained) illegally and had their kids with them? What does this special reward say to those foreign nationals that have been waiting patiently in their homelands for permission to legally enter the US?

Nope, they don't see their illegal alien parents as deserving special treatment for their me first attitude to avoid waiting for permission to legally enter or remain in the US. Why have immigration laws if you don't intend to enforce them? Few seem to remember the promises made to get the 1986 amnesty for 3 million illegal aliens - empty promises of future enforcement traded for that amnesty first boondoggle. The reward that the public got was 12 million more illegal aliens are here now.

It isn't hard to come up with reasons why it SHOULDN'T happen. Nonetheless, I believe it will.

Unfortunately, based on past stupid political deals, you are probably right. Who really cares what is best for the 320 million folks that they allegedly represent? These congress critters must deal with the emergency faced by 800K "dreamers" that got screwed over by their greedy, self centered, illegal alien parents that felt entitled to leave their homelands and flip off the morons left there waiting for permission to legally enter the US. Congress critters see that enforcing immigration law is harder and more costly (at least in the short run) than granting head of line privileges to a few million illegal aliens and making (empty?) promises to try do better in the future.

After all, who needs sanctuary cities when we can have a sanctuary country - not because it is the right thing to do but because it is the least expensive and easiest thing for congress critters to do. While congress critters know that their approval rating sucks they also know that the stupid sheeple, with the attention span of a gnat on crack, will re-elect them at a rate in excess of 90% so they really don't care. USA, USA, USA... Si se puede!

One has to wonder if you even read any of your links? One of your links explains that farm workers are at a low...even in Mexico where most farm workers are from. As it says:

But Mexico is drying up as a source. That's because rural Mexicans are getting a better education, courtesy of more government spending, and rejecting farm work, even in their own country.

"The nonfarm economy in Mexico is growing and it's creating new jobs that require engineering and managerial skills and giving better wages," said Taylor. "That's where young people are going."

Young people simply are not going to do back breaking work when they've been told that they can get better wages for less physical work in other job sectors.

And that is just in Mexico. Here in the US do you really think that kids that are getting better educations than they can get in Mexico are going to go into the agriculture business picking berries for at most 10.80/hr vs an entry level construction job that pays $15/hr? Common sense says that they're going to go for that entry level construction pay. Particularly if they know that they could be making around $30/hr after having been in that business for awhile.

Believe it or not, most dreamers are not going into the agriculture business. They're going to college to get lawyer and doctor degrees. Which means your appeal about crop prices is irrelevant because those dreamers are not doing a thing to help with crops any more than Americans are. Your link does however show how those that own farms can handle things. Such as contracting workers and using better technology and being more efficient.

You get the picture--even if I missed a link. The point is that Americans will not do back breaking work for minimum wages.

President Trump is shaking farm country to its core with his executive order to build a border wall and ramp up immigration enforcement. The federal government estimates about half of the nation's farm workers are here illegally. Farm groups say it's actually much more in some states. We're going to hear now from one state - New York - where dairy farmers and their employees fear that a crackdown is coming. North Country Public Radio's David Sommerstein reports.
Dairy Farmers Fear Loss Of Labor Under Trump Immigration Actions : NPR

America’s farmers are feeling anxious about President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.

Patricia Dudley, the head of Bethel Heights Vineyard, looked out over the 100 acres of vines her crew of 20 Mexicans had just finished pruning, worried about what will happen if the Trump administration presses ahead with its crackdown on immigrants.

From tending the plants to harvesting the grapes, it takes skill and a strong work ethic to produce the winery’s pinot noir and chardonnay, and native-born Americans just aren’t willing to work that hard, Dudley said as a cold rain drenched the vineyard in the hills of Oregon.

“Who’s going to come out here and do this work when they deport them all?” she asked.

President Donald Trump’s hard line against immigrants in the U.S. illegally has sent a chill through the nation’s agricultural industry, which fears a crackdown will deprive it of the labor it needs to plant, grow and pick the crops that feed the country. In New Jersey, blueberry farmers are worried because they rely on laborers to hand-pick the berries, since machines tend to sweep up green, unripe berries along with sweet blue ones, costing them sales and hurting profits.

Nevertheless, a variety of employers in Alabama said they have not been able to find enough legal residents to replace the seasoned Hispanic field pickers, drywall hangers, landscapers and poultry workers who fled the state. There was an initial rush of job applications, they said, but many new employees quit or were let go. Wayne Smith, 56, raises tomatoes on a family farm in the misty hills of Chandler Mountain, a 40-minute drive from Albertville. Last fall, he said, his entire Mexican crew ran off, and Smith and his neighbors scoured the area for new workers. The growers pay $2 for every large box of picked tomatoes, and a worker must be able to pluck fast all day, bent over in the hot sun, to fill two or three dozen boxes.“The whites lasted half a day, and the blacks wouldn’t come at all. The work was just too hot and hard for them,” Smith said. He dismissed the argument, often made by critics of illegal immigration, that Americans might do the work if offered a higher and hourly wage. “We’ve been using Mexicans for 30 years, and now they’ve been run off,” he said. “Everyone is worried about Arizona. If this law sticks, what’ll we do then?

With Social Security and Medicare you pay taxes out of your check (matched by your employer) and then when you reach retirement age those funds are then redistributed back to you. In fact, the government, more than likely, winds up paying you much more money in the long run than you and your employer actually paid in. Therefore, the only way these dreamers or illegals could actually be good for the system is if they were to pay into the system and then not collect when they are older. If they collect, then they are not really doing anything to help the system.

Of course American's won't do the back breaking work for minimum wage. I don't blame them. Nor do I blame the fact that even kids from third world countries are doing their best to get an education that does not lead to that same back breaking work. Who wouldn't want a job that is cushy and pays more than back breaking work? That's a no brainer.

That said, migrant workers are in fact wanted in the US. But they're wanted here legally. Not illegally. Many like to "confuse" that fact. Making it seem as if lots of American's are against migrant workers. That they're xenophobic and/or racist. The truth is the complete opposite. There are actually very few actual racists and xenophobes in this country relatively speaking.

Gosh. You mean wages might have to rise for low-skilled labor?

Goodness. How awful that would be.

<---- Did backbreaking labor for sometimes even less than minimum wage.

Especially if A) wages rise as low-skill labor supply lowers and B) we stop punishing work in our tax/benefits structure, you might be surprised.

This is true - America is one of the least racist countries in the world; we prefer to hate each other over partisan affiliation. :p

I too did back breaking work. Worked on berry farms, potato farms, tree farms, dug ditches etc etc. I was talking mainly about the younger generation. ;)

Well first, they arent going to be sent away, so thats a strawman. Congress will pass an actual law granting them amnesty. Second, there's less than a million 'dreamers' and no guarantee theyll be paying federal taxes (much like millions of actual Americans dont). So, the amount of money being paid into SS by them is negligible and wont make a difference to the problems SS faces.

And most import, third, there are plenty of reasonable options. The CBO has compiled thousands of them over the years:

https://www.cbo.gov/sites/default/f...015-2016/reports/51011-SSOptions_OneCol-2.pdf

Not that DACA has anything to do with economics. Its about law and order.

Illegals have already paid billions of dollars into social security/medicare that they're not eligible to collect on.

Starting in the late 1980's, the Social Security Administration received a flood of W-2 earnings reports with incorrect -- sometimes simply fictitious -- Social Security numbers. It stashed them in what it calls the "earnings suspense file" in the hope that someday it would figure out whom they belonged to.

The file has been mushrooming ever since: $189 billion worth of wages ended up recorded in the suspense file over the 1990's, two and a half times the amount of the 1980's.

In the current decade, the file is growing, on average, by more than $50 billion a year, generating $6 billion to $7 billion in Social Security tax revenue and about $1.5 billion in Medicare taxes.

Then you should probably go help a farmer today--they need all the help they can get.

That's exactly what the Heartless want to do.

Why? because they don't see these kids as Human Beings ... it's that simple.

Right after former President Obama started the Dream Act, there was a mass migration of under aged children sneaking into the country. This was one of the anticipated consequences of even suggesting the path for Dreamers and schemas, which is why President Trump wants the wall.

The same thing happened during President Regan. President Regan granted amnesty to about 3.2 million illegal immigrants in the 1980's. Over the years that followed, now we have an additional 15-20 million or more illegals, who used the amnesty as the incentive and excuse to break into the country. This wave of illegals were the ones who dragged the dreamers into the country, too create a bigger problem. Doing something nice odes not mean appreciation but it can also mean taking advantage of good will.

It seems logical, we will have another wave of illegals, if DACA is not done in a way, that discourages further illegal migration and mips it is the bud. The border needs to be secure with a wall, or else we are asking for a worse problem down the line.

One solution is to add an extra tax on anyone who is pro-illegal immigration and Dreamer, to offset the costs. If you are against things, you are exempt from the extra tax. This way everyone gets what they want. If the Democrats don't want to put their own money where their mouth is, we work with the amount they can raise, and only allow that many dreamers.

Your'e seriously attributing the Reagan's economic record to his immigration policies ? You know who's not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to economics ? Its not Right wingers, thats for sure. Its people this pull this type of revisionist crap out their asses and expect to be taken seriously here at DP or anywhere else

What did Reagan do differently ? Its called Supply Side economics and has nothing to do with legalizing millions of illegal aliens. Reagan signed the largest marginal tax cut in American history which led to the longest period of sustained growth during peacetime and the second-longest period of sustained growth in U.S.
Under Reagan Federal revenues doubled from just over $517 billion in 1980 to more than $1 trillion in 1990, a 28% increase. Revenues from individual income taxes climbed from just over $244 billion in 1980 to nearly $467 billion in 1990, a 25% increase

We just spent 8 years under a Left wing President with a average annual GDP of 1.8%. Obama's economic strategy was consistent Left wing strategies that include higher taxes, exponential increase in spending, new and burdensome regulations and unprecedented Govt intervention into our private sector economy.
FED policy under Obama entire two terms underscores just how horrible his economy was. 8 years of FED zero interest rates with the FED discount rate hovering right around zero for the last 8 years.

As for DACA, its illegal, and should be kicked back to Congress as Trump just did. Trump is under no obligation to perpetuate Obama's agenda, and if you wanted a President to continue with Obama's agenda, you should have run a better candidate

They have ? How is that possible without a valid Social security number ?

There's only one way to recieve a W2 that shows SSN taxes if youre here illegally, and thats to steal a American citizens SS #.

What are some other things that can be done with stolen SS # s ?? Hmmm
..
My sympathy doesnt extend to people from other Countries who have no respect for our laws and who expect special treatment over every other immigrant thats gone through the process of citizenship

Nope--other Presidents had signed large tax cuts. The largest one prior was from JFK, and after Reagan, it was G.W. Bush. Yes they all spurred the economy but NONE lasted as long as Ronald Reagan's did. Therefore, it was because he legalized all illegals in this country and that ended up being the longest lasting economic expansion in this nations history.

Regardless, it looks like Trump is going to pass DACA--under legislation from Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer anyway, as he has indicated.

President Donald Trump is moving closer to a deal with Democrats that would protect hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants from deportation. But the parameters of any deal, including a potential pathway to citizenship for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) as the White House and Congress grapple with the impact of a Wednesday dinner between Trump and Democratic leaders. The bombshell developments, which were first announced by Democratic leaders Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep.
