Trump Harvey Costs & Wall Spending Bill

So is it just me or is Trump not exactly being thrifty on these things. Whatever happened to the fiscal conservatives?? I know Trump never was one, but I haven't seen anybody criticize Trump for all this spending and begging for money.

Then there is the matter of the wall and Trump threatening to shut down the gov't if he doesn't get money from Congress which he said Mexico would pay for. That totally contradicts what he said about Hurricane Harvey spending. Does he really not know how much money this supposed wall is going to cost? Something tells me he wants a HUGE spending bill for "Harvey," so he can load it up with wall pork.

So you think it would be inappropriate for the Federal government to help the city of Houston. Not sure even Bernie Sanders would agree with you on that one.

As to the wall, regardless if you are pro or con the amount of money to be spent is tiny as a percent of the Federal budget. I think the 2018 ask is $1.6 billion out of nearly $4 trillion. Perhaps you have, but I have not seen the offset (savings) building the wall would generate.

Being a boomer generation liberal seems to make me an independent these days. That being said it seems as almost a joke on the folks on this site that you self-identify with the GOP.

Complaining about fiscal responsibility only applies to who ever is holding the purse strings.

How did you get that from me saying that Trump is asking for a lot of money. I think the political will is there to fund whatever he wants for Harvey, I just don't think he's going to spend it wisely. Or he'll just lie to us and say it's going to Harvey when it's really not.

Wouldn't surprise me and it's a total crap way to do business. It's just a handy and opportunistic way to create an an avenue of attack for anyone who'd vote against it.

Texas needs sea walls and better infrastructure more than it does a border wall to keep out those who want a better life.

That's exactly what happened with the Sandy bill, they loaded it with pork and the Texas GOP voted against it and now that is being used against them

The money will come from a bill out of congress. Look, hardly anyone likes Trump's style,including me. But some stuff, such as the above is really over the top.

Do you really want to start having political coups in this nation? There has been a "resist" movement since the day after the election. I had real problems with many of Obama's policies. Never wanted him ousted from office on some bogus charge like they tried to do to Bill Clinton.

I don't think it's being over the top at all, knowing what I know about Trump, his finances, and business deals, and lack of political decorum. In fact this is going to be Trump's first major piece of legislation that he passes. His first spending bill, and you are essentially asking us to trust a man on his word who has constantly lied to the American people. He has lied about big things to push his partisan agenda and small things like crowd sizes. There should not be any doubt in people's minds that he WILL lie about this! The fact-checkers better get ready, when Congress starts voting.

My sense is that you know materially less than you think about his business deals and finances. The one thing you know is that you HATE the guy elected president. That is your choice. But saying that the spending bill will not be created is a lie that I can't imagine is true.

I'm not saying it won't be created. I'm saying the administration loves a good crisis. Trump is probably the ultimate crisis brander. He has already used the hurricane for political cover. He'll do it again. Mark my words.

I can't believe you think it'll be a stretch to think that trump will lie about what is in this spending bill.

I view a lie as a serious flaw. Yes I think Trump has lied as have most politicians including the last few presidents.

That being said I am loath to accuse someone of lying in advance of them actually doing it.

You have to remember the wall will be paid via Mexico. They will pay one way or the other.

You are doing the same thing the Mainstream Media does daily: spin, speculate, use innuendo, baseless predictions, etc...and turn it into something to blame Trump for...when he hasn't even done anything.

All I can say is mark my words. Trump has long threw away any benefit of the doubt I once gave him. Even the most principled and seasoned politicians have fallen for bills full of pork and based on his poor attempts to get a pork filed health care bill passed. Nothing tells me that this bill will be any different.

Or I'm taking past behaviors and attempting to analyze what he will probably do. You can mark my words if I'm wrong and there's no pork or wall stuff in the bill I will go back to this thread and apologize but I haven't been wrong about this president yet.

I don't think it's meant to be literal. It's a depiction of the way government provides remedies for problems, and then is demonized as the source of those (and/or other) problems.

ROFL well it's not a very good and certainly the FEDERAL government is not the body restoring power down their. It's all the utility companies that work together in such emergencies. And Utilities are not government.
