Trump Harvey Costs & Wall Spending Bill

Re: Trump Harvey Costs & Wall Spending Bill

I'm not saying it won't be created. I'm saying the administration loves a good crisis. Trump is probably the ultimate crisis brander. He has already used the hurricane for political cover. He'll do it again. Mark my words.

I can't believe you think it'll be a stretch to think that trump will lie about what is in this spending bill.

Yeah he creates the hurricane to cover preplanned announcements...:doh

ROFL well it's not a very good and certainly the FEDERAL government is not the body restoring power down their. It's all the utility companies that work together in such emergencies. And Utilities are not government.

Again, I don't think it's supposed to be literal. And while some utilities may not be government, most municipal water and sewerage facilities are.

The power didn't get restored by FEMA or the feds. That was done by the power company.

Can you show us a picture of an actual FEMA bucket truck with a FEMA lineman repairing a blown transformer?

FWIW, FEMA is not a utility, hence the name includes".....Management Agency", but surely you already knew that.

So is it just me or is Trump not exactly being thrifty on these things. Whatever happened to the fiscal conservatives?? I know Trump never was one, but I haven't seen anybody criticize Trump for all this spending and begging for money.

Trump on Harvey: 'Never been something so expensive in our country's history' | TheHill

Then there is the matter of the wall and Trump threatening to shut down the gov't if he doesn't get money from Congress which he said Mexico would pay for. That totally contradicts what he said about Hurricane Harvey spending. Does he really not know how much money this supposed wall is going to cost? Something tells me he wants a HUGE spending bill for "Harvey," so he can load it up with wall pork.

Well seeing as the last time I noticed a suspected price for the wall was around 10 billion or less. I don't really think its going to be the most expensive thing that America has done. Not when you factor in that operation Iraqi freedom was around 800 billion. Even Obama said that it could get to over a Trillion if it didn't end.

The wall isn't even going to be built over the entire border, its going to cover a little over half of it at most.

Trump has been putting forward several means to pay for the wall, though people keep stepping in, and screwing that up for everyone. He eventually might get put into a corner if this keep going on.

As of yet, all of this still remains to be seen though.

Perhaps you haven't been reading the conservative media.
Five days after taking office, President Donald Trump issued Executive Order 13767, which authorized the building of a wall on our Southern border and other measures to increase the number of immigration officers to defend our borders against illegal crossings. This authorization for a physical wall has a cost, estimated by the Department of Homeland Security, of over $20 billion.

Perhaps you haven't been reading the conservative media.

I see several sites showing that, but the problem was that the order didn't specify the exact amount right off the bat. Though we all knew it was going to be high in the end, because he wanted like a 30ft high wall to fill in the desired area for the border.

That damn fence wasn't stopping barely anything.
If my dog can find a way around, under, or over my 7ft fence. Then humans with decent reasoning skills, opposable thumbs, and access to common tools could have no real problem.

I think what I referenced in price was that same 1 1/2 aircraft carrier thing some of the other dems/reps have been touting for a few months now.

Re: Trump Harvey Costs & Wall Spending Bill

All I can say is mark my words. Trump has long threw away any benefit of the doubt I once gave him. Even the most principled and seasoned politicians have fallen for bills full of pork and based on his poor attempts to get a pork filed health care bill passed. Nothing tells me that this bill will be any different.

This is as good a time as any to say I've never really cared all that much about "pork" in a bill. It's otherwise known as getting things done for the people who elected you, and we're all happy when OUR Congressperson brings home the bacon to OUR little piece of the rock, and it's part of doing business, give a little here, and get a YES vote, and someone else gives a little back the next time around. The whole "earmark" stuff was similarly stupid IMO. So instead of Congress deciding where the money goes, including so-called 'earmarks' you let the POTUS and unelected bureaucrats allocate ALL the budget? OK, but it's not immediately apparent why that's a better system. And most of the time, like with Sandy, the so-called pork was a small part of the overall line item.
