Texas Booms (+3.9%) as California Flatlines (0.1%)

OP provided only 1st quarter 2017 ...

Same website ...

https://faq.bea.gov/scb/pdf/2017/01 January/0117_gdp_by_state.pdf

That one shows 2nd quarter 2016 where CA is at 2.2% and Texas is at -0.8%. Where was the Fenton headline about Texas flatlining while California booms in that quarter?

Also note the chart where from Q1 2015 thru Q3 2016, CA averaged 3.65% and TX managed only 2.07%, CA ranked 11th in the country, while Texas was 44th, and at no time was the CA economy in negative territory, while TX spent half its time showing negative growth.

And another ... also same website as OP ...

https://bea.gov/scb/pdf/2016/07 July/0716_gdp_by_state.pdf

2012 - 2015 GDP ... Texas ranked 3rd. Pretty good, right? Sure, except California ranked #1. Chart after chart after chart, EXCEPT for the SINGLE QUARTER that the OP presented, shows that CA is doing better (and in many cases, FAR better) than Texas is doing economically.

Shhhh remember facts is the kryptonite for most right wingers and especially those from Texas :)

OMG! You mean someone would flat out lie about the reality of Tejas's finances???!?!

Knock me over with a feather, you could!

It didn't make sense to invest in new reservoirs during a drought and when many reservoirs were practically empty.

At least California has a contingency plan to conserve water....what does Texas have besides praying?

Yeah how stupid is California, don't build reservoirs when they have good rain years. That would be to logical for the liberals to understand.

Feeling a bit triumphant about someone else's misfortune? Has your country become so divided?

I mean ideally Arizona Bay becomes a thing, so sure?

Facts is facts. Funny how liberals always want to talk about facts - until the facts slap them in the face then all of sudden they don't want to talk about facts.

The problem is that Fenton provided ONE fact. Without context. Showing only the numbers he wanted to show, and presented it as if it were all-encompassing.

I was waiting to hear you shout, "Cherry picking!!", but alas, it is not to be, because you're party over truth.

And the left never cherry pick facts? The left invented cherry picking. But, thanks for admitting that ALL sides cherry pick.

You claim Cali is doing better ??

Facts..

In 2003, California's unfunded pension liabilities were 6 Billion dollars.

In 2016 including bond debt California's unfunded pension liabilities were 281 billion dollars. The way California came up with that number was to project a optimistic and impossible rate of return on their pension investments.
A more accurate amount when figuring a rate of return thats realistic is close to 1 Trillion dollars

This DOES NOT include 152 Billion dollars in unfunded pension retirement liabilities
https://www.google.com/amp/www.merc...or-adds-to-california-deficit-projection/amp/

From 2016-2017, California's unfunded liablities rose 22 percent higher...
https://www.google.com/amp/www.brei...ornia-pension-liability-skyrockets-by-22/amp/

California's projected budget surplus turns into a increasing deficit after 1.9 Billion dollar accounting error was found..
https://www.google.com/amp/www.brei...ornia-pension-liability-skyrockets-by-22/amp/

For unnfunded liabillities to rise from 6 billion in 2003 to 345 billion in 2017 ( assuming a impossible 8 percent return on invetments ) Cali either had to create a lot of new public sector jobs or sweeten benefits for its existing public sector employees.

It did both, while chasing off its middle class and bussinesses and tax base.

The tax and spend agenda comes with some serious consequences. Where's Cali going to find all this new revenue needed just to balance their budget ?

Tax increases, that wind up chasing out even more of its tax base....Lol

You claim Cali is doing better ??

Did I? I think my claim was that you cherry picked a single quarter and implied it was the whole truth, and then I provided examples from the same website that pointed out your narrow scope.

Well, at least you point it out when either side does it.

Oh, wait ....

Well, instead of building reservoirs, all Texas does is "pray" for rain. How stupid is that?

That's what I just did. I said both sides cherry pick. That's why debates never get resolved. The left presents their cherry picked facts and the right presents their cherry picked facts. Meanwhile, gridlock ensues.

The difference being, you jump in of your own accord and say "cherry picking!!" when the left does it, and only after it's pointed out to you that a conservative poster does it, you begrudgingly say "but both sides do it".

The difference is, you will never admit to cherry picking because your side always says facts are facts and there is only one set of facts.

Another one. Do you Texans eat schadenfreude for breakfast? Those are your fellow Americans. Do you check off the days on the calendar while they're suffering a drought, grinning and chuckling?

Back in the early 70's with the oil embargo and soon after there was a natural gas shortage here in the Northeast...A big seller in Texas was bumper stickers that said: 'Let them freeze'. Meaning unless Texas got a big bump up in Natural Gas prices (like the increase the country just saw in oil prices) they didn't care if people in the North had natural gas to heat their homes. Let them freeze.

Right about then I no longer had any use to Texas. Every time a Dem is elected Prez and Texas threads to secede i say let them go.

HAHAHAHA!!!!

Your dumb article is going back in time to 2001 to try and make an argument for California struggling in 2017 for **** sake. News flash Genius, Arnold Schwarzenegger a Republican was governor from 2003 to 2010 which were the primary years California struggled. Since 2010 when Jerry Brown took over things have been booming. The tech industry is only getting bigger, it is states like Texas and the Dakotas that are in for a rude awakening as fossil fuel consumption continues to fall, and their oil and gas fields become worthless just like West Virginia's coal mines.

:lamo

California is doomed. Nothing clueless minions can do about it. You obviously didn't even read the article.

30% of the states income tax revenue comes from 5,600 people? What happens when they die, or perhaps leave the highest taxed state in the country?

And Arnold the Fraud? Do you think a Republican would sign the Worlds most draconian environmental laws? The Legislature has been ruled by Democrats since the 90's, slick. They run the show.

Get back to me when you have a clue about what liberal/socialist Progressives have done to California. Not interested in fantasy rants.
