Does anyone have any current studies showing how much it costs state and federal governments to prosecute criminal behavior?
I haven't seen any recent ones but it has to cost the taxpayers a slew of money.
And those who do not follow the laws are never picked for jury duty. Another hardship that falls to good people who obey the laws.
It was about 5 years ago that I served on a Grand Jury. It was hard listening to the heinous acts of humans willing to do such things. At times I found myself in tears. Babies being abused, granddaughter on drugs and stealing from their grandmother writing checks on her account for cash and leaving their grandmother with nothing to live on were just a couple of cases but all of them I followed and later all that I voted to prosecute ended up serving time.
Hubby just finished jury duty today. After it was all said and done, he told me it was a murder trial but the entire jury was unanimous in a not guilty verdict because the prosecution just didn't give them enough to vote guilty even though most believed the person was guilty.
But this person is still facing prison time as he is a felon that admitted to possessing a firearm and in a couple of weeks will be before the judge again.
Dear posters, are you aware of the zip codes in your surroundings where most crime occurs? How many of you do not care because you don't live in those zip codes?
How many don't pay taxes so it is no concern to you how much money is spent processing those charged with criminal behavior?
