Who's gonna watch the Sanders/Kasich CNN debate tonight? It should be very interesting. I actually admire both of these guys quite a bit, and look forward to hearing what they have to say. They are both very seasoned, highly intelligent, and knowledgeable men. It will be a nice, refreshing break from all the endless barrage of childish, amateurish rhetoric and problems we have been having to deal with in the past few months (bragging about hand size, shocking levels of ignorance about our history, dangerously amateurish mistakes in dealing with foreign governments and weird executive orders, etc...). We will get to hear some insights into how we should actually be approaching and talking about pressing issues of the day.

What do you think is going to be on the list? Foreign policy? Domestic policy? Taxes? EPA regulations?

I can't wait!

It will be all of it.

Kasich is a wall street rent seeker, landing in fat gigs with Goldman Sachs in between political offices. So he's part of the elite "If your son marries my daughter at Treasury, I'll let my son marry your niece at CNN." kind of elite. Mr. Principled and rational, until he isn't.

Then Bernie. There is something about old dudes who attract young college types. Their solutions are so simple and logical they are obviously right. Until they aren't. Ron Paul comes to mind... another Pied Piper for the frustrated young who find out life isn't anything like they were told it was in school, and damn it, "We're not going to take it anymore!" Until they do.

So it will be interesting. Bernie is 75 and really too old for office, IMO, but I hope when I'm his age I have that much left in my battery! Until I don't.

Any idea if CNN is going to stream it? I did a search and couldn't find much about it. If CNN makes it too hard to watch I'll miss out.

According to a transcription in Dark Money, Kasich told the Kochs to go to hell when they tried to buy him. That's admirable. At the same event, Christie bit down hard on the bait.

I haven't been that interested in these debates. I may catch it, I may not. At any rate, Kasich would be a far superior leader to Sanders.

Kasich should have been running against Hillary even though he may have lost I think he would have been great for the average American's point of view and may still be someday.

It is a mistake for Sanders to debate anyone. Sanders is best when he is at a podium preaching to starry eyed wannabe socialists. Hillary made him look bad. Cruz made him look just horrible. I cant imagine he will fare any better with Kasich.

Sanders is great at pandering to the masses. In every way but ideology, he is the leftist version of Sarah Palin. If he was a smart man, he would pick a successor and spend the next 3 years grooming that person for the 2020 election.

A admire Sanders a bit. Kasich barely at all.

The latter is just another dinosaur Rep with a few decent ideas. But basically worthless politically, imo.

And Sanders is an unrealistic dreamer. He claims time and again how corrupt government is. Yet he claims time and again to want the government to expand GIGANTICALLY. His entire position is ridiculous. Giving WAY more power to a group he admits is staggeringly corrupt?

However, he seems very straightforward (for a politician)...which I like very much.

But I think his positions would be disastrous for the American economy.

He seems a decent man with some VERY naive ideas. Also, he is too old for the WH. I think 80 should be the limit to be POTUS. He will be 79 in 2020.

I feel the same way about Ron Paul (just to show my age preference has nothing to do with Sanders per se)- whom is about the only person I know of that I would support for POTUS if they ran today. But he is too old as well - even though he seems extremely fit and healthy.

Well said. I agree with every word (I swear, I had not read it when I typed my post - as it sounds like I almost copied yours).

And Sanders makes me think of Ron Paul as well (when the latter ran in 2012). The young loved him also.

I got a kick out of the highlighted part especially.

That is exactly the way I feel about Kasich.

He seems better than most. But his history suggests he caves in when it suits him. He just does it somewhat skillfully.

Agreed.

It's not hard to preach when all you do is say what they want to hear.

'more free stuff, take money from evil rich people/corporations, free tuition, free healthcare, free housing, fill-in-your-own minimum wage, more free stuff...did I mention more free stuff?'

Sanders is lost in a time warp still making the answering noise to societal economic questions that were as wrong in 1913 as they are now, only they were excusable historically. Now they have the same feel about them as the creationist preaching.

So who is he taking his money from?

Haven't tried to look it up since he isn't in play. The Kochs are the biggest bundlers, that book was focused on them and their network. Maybe you can tell me? Goldman? If he's owned, I'd be curious who has the leash.

Did Cruz debate Sanders? I need to see that.

Anyway, from what I saw with Kasich is that he's a mealy-mouthed coward who hides behind "oh golly gee aww shucks, can't we all just hug". He's actually scumbag like Cruz without the intellect and hides it being the façade of a niceguy. They're beliefs are not all that different but liberals like him because they care more about image than substance.

Well...no...it really wasnt much of a debate. Sanders spent most of the time looking befuddled, interrupted by the occasional moments where he opened his mouth and sounded befuddled.

You know whats sad? The mocked interpretation of Sanders debating Hillary actually made more sense than the actual debate they had.

It will be an interesting debate. I think Kasich's job here is to be the reasonable conservative. It will be interesting to see the debate go into healthcare, but I hope they cover a lot of different issues. Bernie is an underrated debater. I loved when he hit Cruz on "access" to healthcare in their debate. Kasich is a tougher test. He will at least appear to have substantive arguments which isn't necessarily good for Bernie.

CNN scheduled Bernie because he's a ratings powerhouse.. (Did I just sound like Trump???? ugh.)

But, I'd like to see another left-wing person fill the slot against Kasich. I've heard Bernie's arguments 1000 times. Income inequality, top 1/10 of 1% earns more wealth, single-payer, free college..

He's a broken record. That's a good thing in politics though. IMO, you want someone who's been saying the same thing for 30 years.

I agree. I would like to see some fresh faces on the left at these debates and town halls. I enjoy watching Bernie, but if the left is serious about fighting they need some other major figures. I'd personally like to see Franken or Warren at these things.

Bernie was the best candidate in the 2016 Presidential election. He is another Eisenhower, actually Eisenhower may have been more of a socialist. Eisenhower is ranked among the top five presidents in history and I firmly agree with this.

“to attain any success it is quite clear that the Federal government cannot avoid or escape responsibilities which the mass of the people firmly believe should be undertaken by it.”

This is what Eisenhower once said and this is what Bernie believes in.

FOX is trying to play divisive games with Bernie, saying he was one of the two reasons the more mod/con DEM candidate for Omaha mayor got beat by his campaigning for him in a mod/con city like Omaha.

They're also trying to smear Quist in Montana with what they believe are Bernie negatives. All wings of the DEMs need to lose their Puritan test and combine to defeat those GOPs covering up for trump and attacking DEM domestic issues .

Unnamed, unsourced, BS. Call Bezo's Washington Post. They'll print it.

Voters voted out Dem domestic issues. That's what the election was about - The Supreme Court, gun rights, and people wanting jobs instead of the left letting them leave the country and telling people not to worry because we've got a job reserved for you at Walmart or McDonalds for $15 per hour. People want their $19 per hour manufacturing jobs with benefits. They don't want to work at McDonalds for $15 per hour. Hell, they don't want to work at McDonalds for $19 per hour plus benefits.

Trump won because everyone else, including Hillary had a message for America that was rejected. What has Kasich changed? We know what Sander's message is. But given the "new" democrat party, Sander's actually could win the nomination. I hope he does.

It's so well sourced that the Kochs didn't even try to sue.

Sorry, you lose. Impaled on another 'fake news' claim. Go read Breitbart, that garbage should make you feel better.

If they talk about how hrc and the media and the dnc colluded to steal the nomination from Bernie it could get interesting.

Bernie supporters are suing Debbie wasaman for their money back. Good luck with that.
