Right after the Brexit vote, the most Googled question in the UK was "what is the EU"? It seems the vote was an emotional one, not one based on facts or rationality.

It seems that a lot of ignorant people got over there just had their feelings of xenophobia/racism exploited to push through the Brexit vote. But now that Britons are starting to realize what they just did, it seems there is a very significant backlash against UKIP. The party just got eviscerated in local elections:

There could be a similar pattern here in the US.

:lamo, so if you voted to leave the EU you were temporarily exercising xenophobia/racism?

can you guys ever stop labeling people who don't agree with you?

Right. Because no intelligent person could ever disagree with leftist orthodoxy. Only racists, xenophobes, fascists and idiots oppose the left

Its truly becoming impossible to even have a dialogue with you guys.

The former UKIP vote largely transferred to the pro-Brexit Tories.

And such an issue has absolutely no relevance to anything happening in the United States.

My take is more that ukip is a one theme party. It was fully successful. So why vote for it anymore? What could be the point?

I don't think the UKIP is a one theme party. Basically. . .

--The UKIP's has strongly promoted Euroscepticism, calling for and supporting Brexit.
--It has also opposes a wide open immigration policy and also multiculturalism, and it values the unique British identity and culture.
--It is conservative (as we define conservativism here) on social issues and education.
--It is primarily based on classical liberalism especially when it comes to government and economics,
--It favors power of the people over the political establishment.

And certainly all the media isn't in agreement with the OP: "Support was unsurprisingly strongest among Ukip voters, with a whopping 91% backing the decision of the EU referendum."

It isn't a lot different from the anti-status quo, anti-establishment emphasis that elected Donald J. Trump to be President. Well over 90% of those who voted for the Donald still would.

UKIP and parties like it, is a one theme party. They blame everything on something.. EU, blacks, Jews, Muslims, immigrants.. all depends on what is flavour of the month. All their policies are based on this. Unemployment.. kick out the foreigners and leave the EU. The failing NHS.. kick out the foreigners. Not enough school places.. Kick out the foreigners. The budget deficit.. stop paying aid and other things to foreigners..

Sure they have a manifesto or party plan, which you can read, but that is just a piece of paper.. their own words and actions matter far more than a piece of paper.

Look at Front National in France.. did you know that in 1986 they had over 20 seats in the national parliament?

I don't see how such a broad agenda by any party could be called a 'one theme party'. I get it that you don't like or appreciate the UKIP. I would bet a good steak dinner that you have as dismal a view of the U.S. Republicans or libertarians and would accuse us of the same kind of blame game and intolerance. You would of course be very wrong about us. I'm not there in the U.K. so I can only go by what I see written and hear people speak on television, but I think I would guess you also are accusing them of that which they are not so guilty.

It does not have a broad agenda, that is the point.

I in general dont like bigots, racists and anti-Semites.

You owe me a good steak then. The GOP and the Libetards do have a relative broad political agenda and it is well know. Sure the GOP has lost a lot of its moderates the last 20 years, but there is a broad spectrum in the party with varying views. Yes they use the "blame game" political aspect as UKIP and co does.. for certain things (when it is politically advantageous) but they are so much more than that.

You would of course be very wrong about us. I'm not there in the U.K. so I can only go by what I see written and hear people speak on television, but I think I would guess you also are accusing them of that which they are not so guilty.

UKIP is guilty of all the accusations I have posted. They lied their teeth off for decades on the EU, they lied in the Brexit campaign and so on. Their former leader is a hypocrite lying piece of ****, that jumped ship to rake in more money in the EU, instead of helping form Brexit. His party has since then collapsed into chaos because of its members being linked more and more to racist and neo-nazi organisations.

The fact that UKIP lost all but one of their seats at the last local election and their only parliamentarian dumped the party.. shows it is a one theme party and has outlived its usefulness.

Hey, I'm just reporting the facts on what's happening over there. I was not posting any opinions (yet).

Anyone who does not see the populist storm taking over the world in the last year or so has got to be blind: from Brexit and Trump, to the Russians loving their Putin wanting make Russia great again as a czar-like strongman who puts their nation over international stability and human rights, to the rise of Erdogan in Turkey trying to get rid of modern secular Democracy there and re-institute an Islamic caliphate which will bring back true morality and Islamic values and sharia law and make Turkey great again, to now LePen in France, Dutterte in the Philippines....

The villagers and local yokels are taking over the world with their isolationism, myopic visions, bigotry, and xenophobia. They think they are watching out for their own self interests and sticking it to the "international, globalist elites", not realizing the people who are going to be the most hurt with all this is themselves- in the long run.

This all seems to contradict your OP.

In any case, it doesn't have much to do with what I said, which was, basically, that the collapse of the UKIP vote doesn't signal Brexit remorse when most of the vote went to the pro-Brexit Tories, and that the issue doesn't transfer at all meaningfully to the US.

And you know this for a fact? You can support it with any evidence? Or this is your opinion?

Perhaps if you dislike this perception so much you should stop sending racists, xenophobes, fascists and idiots to argue your case.

Though some, I assume, are good people. ;)

Those people aren't arguing my case

There you go again, denouncing those who disagree with you as too stupid to find their way out of a phone booth without your help. No wonder people are kicking you elitist snobs to the curb.

They can kick me around all they want. That doesn't matter. They can't kick around reality. You can disagree with those nasty Libruls, but you can't disagree with reality. And it's catching up to you. Beliefs and actions have consequences in the real world which at some point can no longer just be made up on right wing media followed by a few choice cuss words for "liberals and elites", whatever you think these people are . At some point ya gonna have to pay the piper, get out of the twilight zone of alternative facts, and start living in the real world.

It could be that right-leaning voters notice the danger of splitting their vote and are consolidating behind the Tories.

Not a word of this supports the sweeping assertions you made in your OP. You think the British vote represents something the actual results don't support.
