Who is allowing this, and why can't we pass simple legislation to end this?

Tax Credits for Illegal Immigrants - FactCheck.org

FactCheck.org said:
Q: Does the IRS pay billions in tax refunds to workers who are in the U.S. illegally?[FONT=&quot]A: Yes. The Treasury Department’s Inspector General determined that $4.2 billion was paid in 2010, up from less than $1 billion in 2005.

This is madness. Just end this nonsense. No tax credits for illegals!

This post is doomed from the start with its misleading summary.

They aren't just "tax credits", they're CHILD tax credits. "... the beneficiaries of the credits are in effect the U.S.-born children of the low-income parents who claim the credits."

And now you know the rest of the story. You can still disagree with the idea of citizen children born to non-citizen parents receiving a tax credit through those same non-citizen parents. But let's at least have a conversation about the facts, and not the misleading OP.

Although, maybe everyone that's read thru the link saw that, and wasn't upset enough to argue the point (for over 3 days now) after seeing it was a child tax credit.

Those credits are dependent on the income of the parents. That is, you only qualify if your household income is low enough, and the benefits go to the entire household. Spin it as you want, but you can't avoid the fact that this is a benefit to illegals.

I'm good with no tax credits for anyone.

Do you know what the source of these "improper payments" are? Because while illegals can claim additional child tax credits, they are not supposed to be getting EITC (though they often do by using a fake SSN). So do you know what exactly this is measuring?

And it's important to step back and realize that wow, this is a massive amount of money.

It ain't just illegals committing the fraud. The tax system shouldn't be used as a welfare payment device, flush the credits. If people are going to get welfare call it what it is and make em apply.

I'm in full agreement there, but then again I'm against welfare in general so of course I am. But it's not as if there isn't massive fraud in welfare programs either.

Yes. No. Well, sort of.

Those credits are dependent on the income of the parents.

Right, but without a child born in this country, they don't get the credit. It's a bit of a Catch-22. The credit is really to help with the well-being of the citizen child, but the check is given to the illegal immigrant parent.

That's true. I really wish that we didn't have birthright citizenship. It's so insane.

If we didnt, then every child born to US citizens would then have to "become" a citizen.

While I don't have a problem with birthright citizenship, that isn't true. Citizenship can just as easily derive from a parent as from geography.

No, in most other countries you must be born to a citizen and then you are automatically a citizen of that country. Birthright citizenship is an anomaly.

Yeah, man! What we need to do is provide those immigrants with some type of legal status, so we can tax them properly, make sure they aren't being taken advantage of by unscrupulous employers, can travel freely across borders, and don't have to risk their lives entering the US.

Meanwhile, unauthorized immigrants pay around $12 billion a year in state and local taxes, and another $7 billion in federal payroll taxes for services they will never collect. And those fiends are getting $1 billion back from the federal government from the child tax credit, based on having kids who are citizens. STOP THE MADNESS!!!

Oh, wait. Somehow, I don't think you and I mean the same thing here.

Or deport immigrants who are collecting welfare, you know, as the law requires.

How much are they collecting in educational expenses, food stamps, housing, etc.?

As I'm sure I've pointed out to you before: Numerous studies have shown that unauthorized immigrants are pretty much break even for the US. Similarly, the costs of kicking them out will be tremendous, and a major shock to the economy -- since you're basically talking about kicking out the equivalent of the population of Ohio.

But of course, you don't want to hear that. Much in the same way you don't want to hear that immigrants apparently pay far more in taxes than they get back in refunds.

I think you should just grab a cerveza and chill.

What do you mean by "we". You act as if the interests of the American people and the interests of the American Government are the same. That is a naïve viewpoint. The government does not want to curb illegal immigration. The government wants every tax paying, wage lowering body they can entice to come.
In addition the multi national corporations who own every single politician want wage lowering, product buying bodies to come here and increase their bottom lines. So who do you think this we is? Your interests are not the same as the people in this country that have and hold power.

sure.. and you don't want to hear that illegal immigrants are a "break even" because on one hand they lower middle class and poor wages in this country...BUT this also means that wealthy people benefit from those lower middle class and poor wages with more profit going into their bank accounts. Contributing to the income inequality in this country.

You think that a population the size of ohio might but downward pressure on the job market and wages?
