Budget: Let's start with a basic fact. Contrary to news reports last week, President Trump is not eliminating funding for Meals on Wheels. He's not even cutting it.

How do we know this? Meals on Wheels says so. A statement issued by Meals on Wheels America on Thursday notes that 35% of the revenues at the 5,000 or so local Meals on Wheels programs come via the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program.

Trump's budget outline says nothing about this program whatsoever.

What Trump's budget does propose is cutting is the corruption-prone Community Development Block Grant program, run out of Housing and Urban Development. Some state and local governments use some of that grant money, at their own discretion, to "augment funding for Meals on Wheels,"...

...misleading shorthand quickly turned into "Trump wants to kill Meals on Wheels."

Time magazine... ...Trump's budget "would kill a program that feeds 2.4 million senior citizens." ... ...Others claimed — falsely — that Trump's budget director said Meals on Wheels wasn't worth funding because it didn't get results.

The New York Times... ...Lawmakers Decry Trump's Cuts To Meals On Wheels"...

...the fake story had already taken hold in the popular press and on social media....

...Meals on Wheels America explained, some Community Development Block Grant money does end up going to some of the local Meals on Wheels programs.

But it's a tiny amount...

...In two days, the charity got more than $100,000 in donations — 50 times more than they'd normally receive. Clearly, individuals are ready...

LOL...where did you learn math? 35% does not even come close to equaling 100% you know?

'President Donald Trump's 2018 budget plan would end a program that provides funding for Meals on Wheels.
A proposal of the Trump budget, released Thursday morning, calls for the complete elimination of the Community Development Block Grant program, which operates under the Department of Housing and Urban Development and covers Meals on Wheels. The budget plan estimates that cutting the program would save the government $3 billion.
"The Federal Government has spent over $150 billion on this block grant since its inception in 1974, but the program is not well-targeted to the poorest populations and has not demonstrated results," the draft of the budget says.
A representative for Meals on Wheels said not enough details were provided to discern how this budget would impact the program, but that "it is difficult to imagine a scenario in which they will not be significantly and negatively impacted."'

Trump Budget: Proposal Would Cut Meals on Wheels Funding | Money

Right from the MOW's mouth.

We are done here...not only is your mind clearly closed on this issue...it seems to have turned out the lights and locked the doors.

Plus, talking to Trumpbot's about Trump is utterly pointless.

Let's just say that the fact that many/most Trumpbot's have never seen the inside of a college (except maybe as a janitor) comes as NO surprise after reading what you people think on Trump matters.

As much as I'd love to take credit for writing the editorial I understand that your post ignores the source and goes directly for an attack on the messenger. What I see in today's public discourse is that as the extreme drool-down-the-chin Marxists continue their fall from power they're ramiping up their personal attacks --and this only accelerates their doom.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you personally are a self-destructing idiot, you very well may be but that's neither any of my business nor is my comment in that regard necessary here. What I am suggesting is that you consider the company you're in, where they're taking you, and the consequences.

My take is there are two arenas of conflict. One is over personalities where the tools are insult and attack, and the other is over policy where the spark of truth can be seen in the clash of differing opinions. Maybe you're seeing what I'm seeing, that most people are good and can think, and we're getting better at both day by day.

Life is great ain't it?

This argument can be (and frequently is) used for cutting any federal spending. Rest assured that all federal spending programs benefit someone and losing any of that beneficial spending will "hurt" someone. The only public policy that will not "hurt" somebody is to keep or increase any and all federal spending programs. The problem is that federal revenue does not grow at the same rate that federal spending does, thus we spend much more simply on debt service (interest on the national debt) than on many of these wonderful federal give away programs.

He is NOT interested in learning just whining .

Unfortunately, that seems to be the standard for many. People with knee-jerk reactions usually end up with a bruised knee. ;)

Perhaps in 8 years they will get over the election .

To be honest, I'm not over the election. Rock bottom choices in the two main parties, and a few wing nuts in the third parties, that was what this country offered.

We'll survive it, that's about as far as I'm willing to go on that subject. ;)

You mean that same God that many on the left refuse to acknowledge? The same God who thinks murder is wrong, even the murder of innocent fetuses? That God?

Well- he wouldn't go to hell for cutting funds to PBS ,that's for sure. Anything that's worth watching will surely be picked up by another provider.

Whenever someone makes a quantitative assertion, like "we spend much more simply on debt service," I urge them to first check the numbers before stating it as a fact. The reality is that "we" are not paying more on debt services. Interest on the debt is lower than it was ten years ago.

The argument that we need to cut these small programs because we just don't have the money would have more credibility if Trump and the GOP wasn't planning to slash taxes, mainly on the rich. Thus, we need to cut programs for the poor so we can give rich people tax-cuts hardly would get vast public approval.

Next, I like to put in perspective that things such as foreign aide (less than 1% of the budget, the arts and Meals on Wheels are not a significant budget drain.)

The truth about federal spending: Your federal government is basically an insurance company with an army. The vast bulk of its spending goes to the big five: Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, defense, and interest on the debt.

The amounts spent on anything remotely resembling Meals on Wheels is a rounding error on a rounding error. It’s just not what your government does on any significant scale.

And if you want smaller government, either you’re talking about cuts in the big five, or you have no idea what you’re talking about.

In an attempt to show me how small interest on the national debt is you list it in the top five federal expenses - nice try. ;)

Your point was that interest is "growing" which it isn't.

The overall point is that items such as Meals on Wheels is not a drain on the federal budget and to target something like that which does much for poor seniors -- while advocating tax-cuts on the rich, is morally depraved.
