47 Despicable Senate Republicans Vote to Deny Aid to Flint’s Lead Poisoned...[W46]

Re: 47 Despicable Senate Republicans Vote to Deny Aid to Flint’s Lead Poisoned Childr

You sound like the kind of person who wouldn't pull someone up dangling from a cliff because they got themselves into the situation and should find their own way out.

Hard to imagine where you got that idea.

Not really much of a point in having an America at all if we'll never and under no circumstance help each other, even in emergencies like this one. If we have 50 completely autonomous states what's the point? If you had no non-poisoned drinking source would you still hold the same opinion?

I didn't say anything about not helping each other. My point is that it should not be role of federal government to pay bills for the state and local governments. The states are taxing entities in themselves. Why do you try to make points against what I did not say? It is very weak debate and pointless.

Re: 47 Despicable Senate Republicans Vote to Deny Aid to Flint’s Lead Poisoned Childr

So Louisiana should have been left to help itself after Hurricane Katrina with no help from anyone else until a full consensus of all states could be formed? Can you explain the logic behind your assertion and why?

I didnt say no help, I said no forced help. The purpose of the federal govt is to defend the states from invasion and ensure justice. Not to take money from some states and pay for needs in other states. Thats what the states agreed to when they formed a union. If you want to change that, it requires 3/4 of the states to agree to it. In the meantime, any state can voluntarily help another. They just cant force other states to do it.

Jesus Christ.... "We're in debt, so **** all of the poisoned children and Michigan residents who have no safe drinking source. They should fix their own problems, damn takers"

I'm not even going to attempt to argue with something so atrocious.

Then go argue on Reddit.

Should we fix every state and every cities problems on the backs of the American taxpayer? The city of Flint made a decision to switch from the water of Lake Huron to the Flint River because they wanted to save money. It didn't work out so well. The federal government has stepped in with emergency drinking water, medical assistance, and more help. The state has kicked in millions and millions. What is the city doing? They are going to use $30 million to rebate to the water system customers as refunds. Really? And they want more federal tax money?

Snyder pitches $30 million for Flint water bill refunds

No safe drinking source? What, the stores there are forbidden from selling bottled water? Who knew?

Re: 47 Despicable Senate Republicans Vote to Deny Aid to Flint’s Lead Poisoned...[W46

If Flint needs emergency funds, they can get it from Michigan.

If they cannot get it from Michigan...then tough.

Washington should not be funding every town/city that runs into water/sewer/infrastructure problems.
Now if there are people there that cannot live in their homes, have no place to go and need emergency shelter...fine, then have Washington send a bunch of emergency shelter trailers so these people have a place to live.

But if Washington agrees to fix what is a municipal/state problem, then what you will get in the future is state's sometimes refusing to pay for issues in their jurisdictions knowing full well that Washington will pay for it in the end.

This is a Michigan problem...not a national one.

I see, when it is a matter of shelter, it is ok for the federal govt to provide help, but if it is water, one of the most essential human needs, then it is not ok for the federal govt to become involved.

The federal government got involved. They came to the rescue with millions of dollars in emergency aid. That's their job. Now it is up to the city to fix it. The state has even given them millions to fix it. What is the city doing? They are preparing to issue millions of dollars in rebates to the customers. Nice.

47 Despicable Senate Republicans Vote To Deny Aid To Flint's Lead Poisoned Children
47 Despicable Senate Republicans Vote to Deny Aid to Flint’s Lead Poisoned Children

Senate Republicans forced a vote on an amendment today that would have denied federal aid to the poisoned children of Flint, Michigan. What is even more deplorable is that 47 Senate Republicans voted not help lead poisoned children….

“Senate Republicans forced a vote on an amendment today that would have denied federal aid to the poisoned children of Flint, Michigan. What is even more deplorable is that 47 Senate Republicans voted not help lead poisoned children………..

…………..The Coates Amendment to the Energy and Water Agencies Appropriations Act failed by a vote of 48-49. All Senate Democrats, with the exception of Sen. Claire McCaskill (MO) voted against the amendment. Five Republicans Sens. Lisa Murkowski (AK), Bill Cassidy (LA), Rob Portman (OH), Lamar Alexander (TN) and Dean Heller (NV) joined with Democrats in voting against the amendment, but 47 Senate Republicans voted not to provide federal aid for children that were poisoned by the decisions of Michigan’s Republican governor…………

The 47 Senate Republicans who voted for this amendment displayed a basic contempt for the American people that is proof of why Republicans should be voted out of the majority in November. It doesn’t get any lower than voting against helping poisoned children.

Democrats should keep the actions of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and the 46 Republicans who voted for this amendment in mind the next time one of these Republicans demands federal aid after a flood, fire, or hurricane. ………

Senate Republicans have prioritized the Koch’s over kids, which is why they should not be trusted with power in the United States Senate.”

And voted down because it makes Obama look bad...........outrageous and sinful IMHO

The text of Amendment #3814:

further, that none of the funds available to the Secretary of
Energy to provide any credit subsidy under subsection (d) of
section 136 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of
2007 (42 U.S.C. 17013) as of the date of enactment of this
Act shall be obligated for new loan commitments under that
subsection on or after October 1, 2020.

Could you please show us where the part you're all wound up about is....
