It is why our founders expressed the need for civics education, which the Democrats abolished when they created the Department of Education in 1980. Two generations later we have a nation full of the civically illiterate.

An educated citizenry is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people.

If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.

It is an axiom in my mind that our liberty can never be safe but in the hands of the people themselves, and that too of the people with a certain degree of instruction. This it is the business of the state to effect, and on a general plan.

In case you hadn't noticed Trump is the current President. Had it been 4 years ago I would have said Obama. Had it been 12 years ago I would have said Bush43. Every presidential candidate, Republican and Democrat alike, makes promises that only Congress can keep, like Bush41's "Read my lips, no new taxes." They make those promises knowing that American voters are complete and utter morons that don't have the first clue how their own government functions. Do try to keep up.

Actually, the issue of this thread is "high crimes and misdemeanors." Along with "treason" and "bribery" those are the requirements specified by the US Constitution to impeach a President. Since the Articles of Impeachment against Trump did not include "treason, bribery, or high crimes and misdemeanors" it makes the Articles of Impeachment passed by the House unconstitutional or illegal. An illegal attempt to overthrow the existing lawfully elected government is also called a "coup d'etat." Since the Senate acquitted Trump, it amounts to a failed coup by the Democratic Party.
