Political Party

Would anyone think creating a new political party to be a good idea, in today's society? Why or why not

US history shows plenty of third party creation...they either have no influence, or a are swallowed up by both of the larger parties. And those that do survive to become a big party (like the GOP) only do so because they make up the larger portion of the party that broke up before them.

Then they change platforms and evolve to access the voters they want so that they can succeed. Example: the DNC was a party of slaveholders until they evolved past it to include a huge and influential voting bloc while the GOP were originally anti-slavery and pro-union, but evolved into the party that took in the racist elements of the DNC so that they could win the south and became anti-union when they understood that money was a powerful tool and went pro-corporate.

Here we have six parties in our parliament and more than I can be bothered to count outside it. They spend most of their time plotting with each other in private.

Adopt Proportional Representation America and you too can have a pretend democracy like Sweden's.

The Republican Party has never been a third party. Both the Republican and Democratic Parties are the original two political parties that formed in 1789 from the Anti-Federalists and the Federalists. The Democratic Party were originally the Federalists, while the Republican Party were originally the Anti-Federalists. In 1800 the Anti-Federalists became the Democratic-Republican Party (a.k.a. "The Party of Jefferson"). In 1828 the Democratic-Republican Party split and those who were Federalists became members of the Democratic Party and the remaining Democratic-Republicans and Anti-Federalists became Whigs. By 1856 those Whigs became the Republican Party.

So both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party are both the original political parties that formed in 1789. They were never a third party.

Third parties in the US succeed by failing. Meaning whenever there is an issue that neither of the two major parties are addressing a third party will pop into existence on that one and only issue. If one, or both, of the major parties adopts the issue the third party that is entirely based upon that one issue ultimately disappears as being irrelevant. When a third party succeeds in getting their message across, and it is adopted by either the Democratic or Republican Party, then there is no reason for the third party to exist any longer. The overwhelming majority of third parties are based upon a single issue, like the Reform Party, which is why they never last or gain much support. Those third parties that are based upon more than a single issue tend to stick around longer, like the Libertarian Party.

The Republican Party makes its own politics to the detriment of the United States and its citizens. But, she does this because her representatives want to stay in power in the Senate and Congress, because they live well there at the expense of taxpayers. And it is also a consequence of their love to political power and prestige. In view of which, the Republican Party (and the US policy) is a hostageabout the ignorant voters that they represents. Whereas the Republican Party itself is forced to lie. In essence, this cynical party, like all the US politicians, they doesn’t care what happens to America. They do not care. At the same time, the Democratic Party also depends on its constituents, and just as often betrays the US interests and seeks profit and well-being.

The only way out of this situation is the transition to a competent electorate. For this, it is necessary to abolish universal suffrage and create suffrage based on qualifications. The composition of the qualification should be considered. But this qualification should be formed on the basis of tests. This is the only way to restore democracy to the United States and make America a great country again.

No, the GOP were a third party that had elements of Democrats (the anti-slavery ones) and elements of the Whig party which dissolved in 1856, the GOP started in 1854. While the GOP had a very short tenure as a third party, they started as a third party and survived.

It is very hard to start a third party because of the dynamic of stealing votes from the favorite of the two big two parties. If you are more liberal you are really voting GOP vpting for a third party.

America cannot have parties that demand ideological purity, this is why Libertarians and the DSA will likely never attain a higher status. It is also why so much of the Democratic establishment is so reviled by many on the Left, because historically (not now) people have wanted not just compromise within the factions of the Left, but also compromise across the aisles.

Purity kills, purity leads to purity oaths, purity leads to genetic birth defects, purity becomes entropy, purity is volatile, purity is stultification, purity is suffocation, purity is obsessive compulsive.
Purity leads to ideological and philosophical stagnation, purity is the harbinger of sectarian violence and dogmatic schism.
In literature, art, music and culinary, purity is unwelcome.
Purity is fundamentalist extremism.
It is the blueprint for fear driven megalomania.
