There are some people that believe schools should remain closed. What is your solution to help these kids? A lot of them are suffering because they cannot see their friends or escape from a dangerous/unhealthy living situation.

We can make adjustments, perhaps move classrooms outside, etc.... How many students BTW have died from COVID-19? Honestly, I would rather have my child get COVID than a lot of other airborne diseases.

Just saying we need to invest in children. Having them stay at home will have long-term negative consequences, PTSD. Having millions of kids suffer from trauma will be devastating.

This issue isn’t the kid getting Covid as much as it is the kid giving Covid to his parents and grandma.

It needs to be a local decision based on local circumstances. NY is probably okay to have at least some in person classes. Texas probably not.

Close the schools.

Mostly you're to blame, Bucky. You voted for a reality TV show star with no leadership experience because you wanted to shake things up.

Most other developed countries have had kids back in school for a while now. The long, drawn out pain the US is experiencing is due to our complete inability to take the virus seriously and the complete lack of national leadership. You and your boys didn't wear masks and mocked people who did. You did this.

Why should children, and teachers, and staff suffer because of our inability to properly support working class people? Why should put people, of all ages, in danger because we refuse to close schools? We need to keep everyone safe; we need to close schools.

Let the parents decide. If teachers do not desire to work for whatever reason, let that be their choice.

I believe it is not possible to say, rationally, whether schools should be opened or closed per se.. Much depends upon the Covid prevention protocol in effect for the school and the area in which the school is located. These bear directly upon the safety of the children, the teachers and other school personnel, the children's household members and the community.

The blanket question 'Should schools be open or closed' belongs on talk shows along with other nonsense.

Regards, stay safe 'n well. Remember the Big 3: masks, hand washing and physical distancing.

No. We need to ensure people aren't choosing between their health and well-being or a paycheck. The schools need to be closed because we all must act if we are to control the virus. There is no way to have school traditionally in a safe manner. We must have alternatives to help keep people safe.

May schools shut down early as soon as it started so we really don't have good data for transmission inside schools. The rest is just BS. The only long term effects will be we have dumber than normal kids for awhile and video game sales go up.

There are plenty of things that can be done to be as safe as possible to reopen the education system. The problem is that the CDC business reopening guidelines were not followed by the Trumplican Red States nor the Trumpster/Trump cult members of the public and it appears that may very well be the same case with reopening education. We can do it. We just don't. With the 1918 Pandemic, we had mask/spacing requirements followed in some cities, others not. We lost 675,000 Americans, including about as many dying from H1N1A in WWI as from battle. And we've not begun "flu" season yet, when another wave of the 1918 pandemic hit big time.

Maybe, I misunderstand you.
Thoughts:
We will never control the virus; we might only lessen the number of incidents and that's a big maybe.
Each individual can make his own choices as to risk ... a case of viral flu or eat and maintain housing.
Personal responsibility and personal choice. Each individual acting for himself will ultimately be good for all; of course there will be exceptions. The ideal that a group of bureaucrats can make a 'one size fits all' protocol that is more beneficial is ludicrous (in my mind). Leave the decisions to the
individual. Is it now accepted that parents are too poorly educated to assimilate the published data as well as bureaucrats who have only the awareness equal to the parent ?
Are parents/teachers just too stupid to make such decisions?
100% safety? when has life ever been so safe? Pusillanimity will kill far more than this virus.
Make it a good day Star.

How many kids under 18 have died because of COVID-19?

I can assure you if kids continue to stay at home, there will be a lot more damage.

School is not a great solution for dangerous living situation at home. As for seeing friends... they can see them outside school too, you know.

In any case, do you think kids will suffer more from not going to school for some time or from carrying the burden of killing their parent or grandma for the rest of their lives?

And if you really want a solution, it's been offered on these boards and elsewhere from back March and it has not changed: national shutdown until our curves go down to being so low that we can pick up the rest via testing and tracing. That's what the rest of the world did and why they now have open schools (yes with continued extra precautions) that are quite safe.

i can assure you that your statement is complete bull****. what do most kids do when they come home from school? who do they interact with? who do those people interact with?

close the ****ing schools.

NO WE CANT MAKE ADJUSTMENTS. The Republicans are scamming us. For instance, in Florida, they made schools get health officials to sign off on closures. Then, they COMMANDED health officials NOT to give ANY advice. Thus, no permission. NO MATTER WHAT.

There are long-term effects of many diseases (CV19 possibly/probably included), and even though children my survive the infection, doesn't mean that secondary symptoms will not plague them their entire lives, and possibly decrease their life expectancy.

Also when flu season hits, it's possible contracting CV19 on top of a flu strain may put those effected into the High-Risk group by default. No one knows for sure how deep the water is, but so many are willing to dive in head first anyway.

the only burden a child will carry is that which is placed upon them by adults.

gee whizzzz, life is tough... can't protect from everything.

Who knew those liberal indoctrine centers handing out free lunches at our expense were so essential?

It used to be a very Conservative position to abolish the department of education, including public schools, and pro-life. Why, this is their chance to prove how it can be done!

But instead teachers much be sacrificed as heroes and public schools must remain open. Weird.

Yes, those adults in government sending them into unsafe schools gambling with lives of the kids' members of household.

does this, are you implying that parents are too stupid to assimilate the published data and decide what is best for their family ?
but ...
bureaucrats who know no more are the ones to make family decisions ?

We’re not going to keep them home until they’re 30, relax

a university near me opened up. my wie and i took a drive by some of the student housing late that first night just to see what the tone would be.

it was parties.

which outside a pandemic is fine. hell, i did it. during this pandemic all the kids/schools are gonna be is a breeding ground for COVID to be passed on. just watch the numbers rise around those colleges.

also watch for the numbers of deaths in those areas.

oh, and doing online learning for a year can't compare to what previous generations of kids endured. should i list them?

1. Many parents are too stupid. Look at how many think it's just a flu or a little worse than a flu.
2. Many parents DO rely on government - if schools are open, they assume it must be safe enough.
3. Many parents are under tremendous pressure to send kids back to school (so they can go work)
4. Many parents are under pressure to send kids to school if other parents are doing the same and other kids are going to school
5. Many parents DO NOT have an option - if their employer requires them to come back to work, they have to send kids to school if they can't find alternatives or alternatives are too expensive.
