I think it is about time that we start talking about what now seems inevitable.........Trump loses the election in November. What will Trumpers (and Republicans) do to fix their party and hope to get back to office in 2024?
Trump has become an idol to rally around among Conservatives who literally have been willing to give everything they have ever believed in for (their honor, their principles, their feeling of right and wrong, their beliefs in justice, their desire for truth). Following such an act is impossible to do. Consider Rubio or Haley, who are likely to be running for President in 2024, will they have the kind of magnet attention that Trump garnered among his base? Will they be able to generate the kind of following among Republicans that Trump did? Not likely at all.
How will the Republican party survive a loss in November given that Trump has set such low standards for being a president that the Democrats will be able to use those low standards as ammunition for all future elections when attacking the Republican party. What will the Republicans stand for in the future that can be believed and that will be strong enough to garner attention of the nation? Abortion?
I do believe that after the loss in November there will be denial, then great anger among the Trumpers (all normal reactions to a loss) but the normal 3rd step of acceptance is not likely to happen and that means that the Republican party will be split in half between those that believed in him to the nth degree and want the same again and again and refuse to accept less and those that will be looking for a new platform for the next election in order to recover their original Conservative ideals that the party has represented in the past and that might bring them back to power. This is a scenario that will keep them from recovering any ability in the future to garner enough votes to be back in control. This is also the kind of scenario that will keep Congress (both Senate and House) in Democrat hands for years to come.
A Trump loss in November will be catastrophic event for the Republican party they may never recover from. In addition, the fact that Trump is likely to be taken to court after he is no longer president and found guilty of many crimes is going to be the "nail in the coffin" for Republicans who blindly followed him to the grave. The grave is what I believe is going to happen to the Republican party with a loss in November.
I will be ordering wreaths in November. I am a compassionate man.
